im thinking of going back to school to get a diploma in computer related field. I was taking a networking program last year but had to withdraw because of the finances.

also I will be taking a ccna cisco course at night.

should I continue with networking? or is there a better field to get into? ie; programmer, web design etc

I'm working as a sourcing project manager now, and from my vantage point I see more people moving up in web design then anything else. IT systems are good enough now that the days of the hideously overpaid network engineer may be over.

That being said, in my view a designer who only designs is not going to move up. Its more important, at least in my view to understand the entire process and be able to come up with solutions instead of just coding something. If you can do both its a huge benefit. Also designerd tend to make things that look good or have neat functions but don't reduce cycle times due to the apps complexity. Understanding the process helps to better USABLE apps.

I specialize in disruptive technologies and its been a huge benefit for me. If you can innovate and do something better and cheaper you get a LOT of attention very quickly.

Tl;dr: Design, but take some MIS courses
