i was reading the comics this morning cause i was bored...i never realized how terrible they are...none of them were even close to being funny

the first one i read was the worst (family Circle)

it showed the dad sitting on the couch watching tv and the kids say "can we change the channel if you fall asleep"

thats it...just a legitimate question

does anyone think these are funny?

i am horribly fascinated by how lame 'for better or for worse' is. i read it everyday and wonder about how awful it is. i also can't understand how 'funky winkerbean' or 'crankshaft' are read by anyone.

Then you are not reading the right comics, my friend.

my guilty secret...

I read the comics in the Daily News every day.... all of them

Even Gasoline Alley and Annie (Daddy Warbucks is currently acting like Rambo in a Russian prison camp)

Tell me about it.

I was also a fan of "Calvin & Hobbes" and "Bloom County." I don't think there is anything worth a damn left out there anymore.

Most comics, like Funky Winkerbean, are basically soap operas now. Even the political ones, like Doonesbury, are soap operas. You get a little more of a story everyday. Awful.

You can see why someone like Gary Larson would get burned out doing The Far Side for years. He came up with a completely new idea for every day.

There are some good ones. Get Fuzzy was mentioned... Peals Before Swine is funny, so is Over The Hedge and Zits. I also like Girls and Sports, but it is really dumb.

I almost fainted when both Ron and Dave said they didn't like Calvin and Hobbes. I was physically ill for several weeks. I love Calvin and Hobbes and the Far Side. I gotta decided which anthology I want for Christmas and I don't see Bill Watterson losing this one.

My current wife may get a little ticked at the prospect of me adding another wife, but what the heck. She is usually ticked at me anyway.

I can understand Ron because Calvin & Hobbes was popular after he would have been into comics and was one of the "cool kids." Dave probably just didn't get it (not knocking Dave, but it doesn't seem like his type of humor).

To piggyback on DonfromNC's post; my favorite Family Circus:

As for the newspaper comics: as with most other things, in an effort to "keep the children safe", it's pretty difficult really have much of anything of substance in the comics section.
There's some decent ones out there(Get Fuzzy, Non-Sequitur), but since "The Far Side" left the majority of it stinks.

If I want a laugh, I'll stick with webcomics.:smoke:

I used to read the Washington post comics every day. For a while, they had 3 pages. Now I only read Get Fuzzy and a few others, and Flashbacks (an historical strip about the DC area) only on Sunday.

I know! Seriously! It's such a great, in depth comic. I mean, look at this one :

A tiger saying arboretum?! That is CRAZY!
