View Full Version : What Is Best Night of Television Ever?

The other day on the show Ron mocked how The New Adventures of Old Christine into Gary Unmarried was the best night of comedy ever. What in your opinion was or is the best night of television ever? It doesn't have to be just comedy. To qualify as a "night" it has to be at least 2 hours in length. To be truly the best go for overall quality, not just Seinfeld and whatever else was on the next hour and a half. I wish I put a "the" in the title of the thread. It has to be on one channel during a specific time in history no cherry picking.

I can only think of two times when I'd watch 2 hours of TV in a row on the same network. First was Fox on Sunday with Simpsons, King of the Hill and X-Files. Then Monday's on Fox with Prison Break and 24. I suppose the former was better.

wait, it all has to be on the same channel? Why can't you watch an hour of FOX, then watch an hour of HBO, then watch an hour of vh1 then cartoon network for the rest of the night?

it's a fucking hack answer, but NBC Thursday 1983 to 1998. Gimme a Break, The Cosby Show, Family Ties, Cheers, Night Court, Wings, Friends (ugh), Seinfeld...
Classic shit sitcoms I loved at the time, but could care less about now (Except for Seinfeld, I'd still watch the re-runs if I had any idea when they were on)

Thursday Nights on NBC are pretty fucking great. My Name Is Earl (pretty decent) into The Office into 30 Rock into Whatever show follows. Any 2 hours that include The Office and 30 Rock is pretty amazing.
HBO with The Sopranos into Entourage into Sex In The City was a pretty strong 2 hours, also. I think it went that way, anyway.

Sci Fi Fridays on the Sci Fi channel back in the day.
It was Stargate SG-1, Stargate Atlantis and Battlestar Galactica back to back to back. Best lineup ever.

The only time I can remember ever being excited for TV was Friday Nights for TGIF on ABC (I believe). It was Step by Step, Family Matters and a rotating block of other shows like Dinosaurs (which they cancelled so abruptly, stating that the Dinos went extinct and made me sad), that witch show with Clarissa and other shit but it was always solid for me, probably because I was a kid.

its so weird how long time sees when you're younger. I would think "dinosaurs" was on for 5 seasons and it was 10 years between "dinosaurs" and "Sabrina" on TGIF
how long was it between the two? Cuz i know i watched TGIF when "Dinosaurs" was on, but i was too old by the time "Sabrina" was on to watch it anymore

To that effect, just this Saturday I was trying to keep up with 8 hockey games, the LSU/Florida game, and the baseball playoffs all at the same time, after spending the afternoon watching Texas/Oklahoma into Nebraska/TTech, Georgia/Tennessee, and Notre Dame/North Carolina
Nothing beats Saturdays in the fall

Wow. Best answer yet.
NBC "Must See" Thursdays is a good one, too. Maybe the best long term answer if you have to add 'ER', 'LA Law', 'Hill Street Blues', 'Mad About You', and 'Will & Grace' to that roster, too.
House and Bones? Really? All-time?
