I will only play Fender.

I toyed with a Stingray for a while. And there's a Gibson "Ripper" at the studio where I cut but.... for me.... it's Fender or nuthin'.

fender jazz's have such a great feel to them. so comfy to play. and i like the warm sound it gives off.

i have my eye on this killer G&L L2000 4 string. the feel on this thing is out of this world, and when you really get on it the pickups growl. quite possibly one of the coolest basses i've ever played. it beat the shit out of the $1800 tobias right next to it.

I love my Mexi.
I own American Fenders. And a Japanese. I love 'em all.

My theory on bass is quite simple. I don't even WANT a whole lotta on-board controls. I don't notice if my frets came "neat & dressed" from the factory. I'm not even sure what that means.
I love solid, beefy, dependable, motown-y bass.
Simple.

I don't do fills or runs so... I don't know how she handles way up high on the neck. Nor do I care. I go deep. Period.
So... yeah... I give the Mexi some very high marks. I play/record/perform many many kinds of music (both original and covers) and I'm solely goin' for that "Everyday I Write The Book" bass tone. In my mind, when I envision "bass guitar"... that's the song I envision.
The special comes pretty darn close.

Here's one I bought since I've been in Vega$, Baby, that I haven't posted a pic of on this board.
It's called a Mohan Veena and it's 1 of the 3 principal styles of Indian lap steel (slide) guitar,
the other 2 being the Hansa Veena (got one!!!) and the Chaturangui (ain't got one yet, DAMMIT!!!).
It has 4 playing strings, 4 chikari (drone) strings and 13 Tarab (sympathetic) strings, which adds up to ALMOST 1 MILLION STRINGS!!!

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y46/bobogolem/MohanVina-1.jpg
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y46/bobogolem/boboMohanVina.jpg

The great Ry Cooder won a Grammy award for an instrumental duet album with Vishwa Mohan Bhatt who is a master of this guitar,
he should be, cuz the guitar is actually named for him,
veena just means "instrument."
BTW the name of this excellent album is "A Meeting by the River,"
check it out!!!
