I took a kickboxing class yesterday. Am I a woman now?

I recently joined a gym, and my sister, who goes to the same gym, asked me to join her for a kickboxing class. I was reluctant, but I decided to go ahead and give it a shot. I showed up and instantly noticed that yep, I was going to be the only guy there. Needless to say, it was a little awkward. The front wall of the room was a giant mirror, and I couldn't bring myself to look at my reflection at any point in the workout. It actually turned out to be pretty fun though, and my arms and legs are really sore today, so I definitely got a good workout out of it. I've always had problems building muscle, and it seems like this would be a decent way to ease myself into a reasonable strength-building routine. My friends busted my balls relentlessly when I told them I was taking the class, but I'm thinking about going back. At least it's not pilates, I suppose. Does this mean I should start shaving my chest and put some Morrissey on my iPod?

There would be no issue here if you were actually punching and kicking people in the face. Since you are doing the moves while staring at yourself in the mirror (and probably to music), it might as well have been jazzercise.

Hey - the good thing is this - Though I've never taken a kickboxing class at the gym, I've done Tae Kwon Do for a little over a year (maybe 10 years ago now) and the conditioning portion of the training was pretty much the same. I understand the gym's class is more for exercise than perfecting a destructive strike - but if you want to get a few tips from someone who knows what he's(or she's) doing - you can apply that knowledge during your gay aeroba-kicky class and then perhaps just pick some fights on the street and work a bag to supplement your sparring chops ... you'll be a ninja in no time.

j/k - that class looks fun and I'd take it but don't go to my gym anymore... plus - hot ass everywhere ... sweet. You go girl.

as for the class, if you enjoy it and think you can benefit from it, why bother worrying what your buddies would say... screw them and have fun at a class full of women surrounding you

I think I'll stick with the class for now. It's only once a week, it's in a private room, and I can definitely use the toning up.
