A New York company is recalling certain batches of Stewart's and Mistic brands sodas because they may be contaminated with ammonia.
Varying levels of ammonia may be in the bottles - amounts that could cause a burning sensation in the throat, nausea, vomiting or, at higher levels, a potentially serious blood condition called acidosis.
There have been no reported injuries, said a spokesman for Mistic Brands and Stewart's Beverages.
The Stewart's recall is larger, affecting flavored sodas bearing the plant code CT571 on the bottle. Recalled are:
12-ounce bottles of Birch Beer, Black Cherry, Cherries 'n Cream, Orange 'n Cream and Diet Orange 'n Cream, Root Beer and Diet Root Beer, Ginger Beer, Grape, Key Lime, Peach and Strawberries 'n Cream.
16-ounce bottles of Cherries 'n Cream, Cream, Root Beer, Diet Root Beer, Grape, Key Lime, Orange 'n Cream.
32-ounce bottles of Cherries 'n Cream, Cream, Root Beer, Diet Root Beer, Key Lime and Orange 'n Cream.
