My wedding anniversary is next week, lucky #13. My wife's birthday was just 2 weeks ago, lucky #40. But she adamantly did not want me to get her anything; I guess she didn't want to be reminded that she was turning 40. So I reluctantly obliged and basically blew it off except for a casual dinner at the local pub.
She is very into running: has run 4 marathons. But I have bought her every running acoutrement there is, and frankly I don't want to seem to be hinting that she needs to run more.
She is working towards a master's degree, is very busy with that plus work plus our two young daughters, so a romantic getaway weekend is probably not going to work (I tried to take her to Graceland for her birthday, as she is an Elvis fan, but she nixed the idea.)
So I don't want to blow off our anniversary, but I am out of ideas.

I will offer the same solution I gave a few weeks ago. Another member was in a similar situation.

I didn't look for the thread, but I'm pretty sure it went like this.

Cook dinner for her. Do the dishes while she relaxes. Give her a massage and moisturize her with a nice lotion.
Then eat her out until she screams.

Diamonds are forever. But if they are also too expensive, jewelry stores have cool "mother" jewelry, where you can get a ring or necklace with your kids' birthstones in. Or you could go to that "Things Remembered" store that has all kinds of stuff you can have engraved with special dates and such. (I just had a silver fortune cookie engraved for my sister--turned out neato.) Good luck! Also, let us know what you end up getting her and how she liked it, I like to follow through. :happy:

thanks, will do. I am leaning towards getting her a day at the spa (there's one near us she likes) and some bottles of wine from some wineries we visited on our honeymoon in Napa.

Along these lines, make a photo album of pictures of you two through the years.

For my 40th, my wife contacted some of my friends and family and had them send her photos that she made into an album for me. It was great.

As per an actual physical gift, when does she receive her masters? If soon i would suggest getting her a really really nice frame for it. It's thoughtful and shows that you believe in her, are encouraging her.

she won't finish her master's for 2 years: she just started it this semester. she's at the University of Pennsylvania, where she also works. free tuition for employees and their kids (sadly, not spouses. I would love to get my phD.) but I will definitely keep that in mind when the time comes; she did that for me when I finished my architecture degree.

Wow, Penn doesn't give tuition remission for spouses? That sucks. My school does so my wife is currently getting her PhD and hopefully the kids will come here too. The only thing that sucks is that our beloved leaders changed the rules a few years ago and now graduate school tuition remission is taxed.

Hey All
had the big anniversary tonight. I went with a gift certificate for the spa near us that she likes. Hard to say if she liked it though: although it's always a good go-to gift, she started to tear up up because she realized she didn't get me anything. I am not the kind of guy who needs to get gifts on an anniversary (a night of wild sex is all I need). But still she felt bad. Then we went out to dinner at the neighborhood pub (Halligan's on Bethlehem Pike in Flourtown, for any of you in the Philly area). Made the mistake of bringing the kids, though, but couldn't find a sitter on short notice. Always an adventure, especially with the 2-year old.
Anyway, that's the update. Thanks to all for your suggestions.
