The band will celebrate the release with a performance on The Late Show With David Letterman on October 29.
"Fix It" has already been playing on Sirius(Not sure about XM) put it's definitely a change from the last few Cardinals albums...Not much of a country vibe at all.
I'm diggin it.
Click here (http://ryan-adams.com) if you want to hear a preview of the first single FIX IT
Yesssssssssssssssssssssssssssss!!!!!
While I enjoy his music, I don't honestly know if I can trust Ryan Adams enough right now to purchase his new album unheard.
He's shit on me too much.

Listen to the single...
That's the general vibe. If you don't like it, you probably won't like the rest.
I DL'ed the show from last Thursday in Albany(It's up on Archive.org for free) and they played a bunch of the new songs that night. I have high hopes for it. The guitar solos are jammin'!

Remember, this is not a Ryan Adams release; it's a Cardinals album.
To those of us who know about Adams, this is no big deal. It's his band, and no matter what he says they're doing what he wants them to do. But he's not allowing anybody to use his name to promote the album or his current tour. How many fair weather fans saw the name Cardinals in the paper and didn't buy tickets?

Amen. Adams' "rock" stuff isn't bad, and I enjoy most of it, but it almost always comes across as him trying really hard to sound like someone else. I loved the return to form of the last album and Cold Roses and especially Jacksonville City Lights.
While he'll aways be one of my absolute favorite artists, I've really come to accept that he peaked with Heartbreaker, and none of his solo stuff with ever even sniff the highs he achieved with Whiskeytown. Call me a music snob, whatever, but the man was born to play and sing country music.

Which of the last 4 did you not like? I thought after the rough patch of Gold through Love is Hell he really stepped up, except for 29.

I think his music will always have a Roots Rock vibe...I just think he's more on a rock kick right now.
We might get an all out country album next time.
Ya never know what you're gonna get!

I will say this...hooking up with the Cardinals is the smartest goddamn thing he's ever done since going solo. I hope he doesn't go nuts yet again and decide to break off from them.
And I'm still pissed about the boxset never showing up.
And the idea to do a Whiskeytown album every few years with Caitlin Cary and Eric Gilmore never happening.
BAH.

Agreed. I never saw the boxed set happening. I think it was a horrible idea to announce that it was happening before it was even worked on. It just got everyone's hopes up.
He's a fragile tortured genius who obviously changes his mind about things every five minutes.
But I'm with you on the Cards. He has found such an amazing group of musicians to share the ride with...and guys who will put up with his insane personality.
There is a chunk of time that they don't have any dates announced around the time of the release...So I'm lookin out for some small/secret shows at the end of October for NYC. The Hiro Ballroom show for the release of Easy Tiger was a once in a lifetime show... I'm hoping for something similar this time around.
he should do another finger album. tee hee.

Yeah, but all of that music is out there as bootlegs largely due to him wanting it out there, so it's not like he's wary about people hearing the stuff. On top of that, most of the music was recorded for the same label, so it's not like they have to dish out fees all over the place to compile the music. There's really not much he needs to do to get it out there...most of the music was completed or near completion, so it would need a little polish and voila. I don't buy that he changed his mind because of the "quality of the music" because he's encouraged the bootlegs all along.

Honestly, what would be the point? I like Malin's first solo albm and some of his stuff since, but he's basically established himself as Ryan Adams-lite. It would be two dudes trying to sound the same.

I can't really disagree with you, but I see Malin as more of a power pop songwriter, and there's something appealing to me to have that mixed with Ryan's folk and country roots.

So what's the verdict on the new album? A friend sent it to me the other day, and with a couple of exceptions I'm digging it.

Like I said before, I love it. I think it's his best post-Whiskeytown album since Heartbreaker.

As various songs have come up randomly on my Itouch, my opinion has been hit and miss...especially the songs where he'll sing a line or so in falsetto. But earlier today I was at a used CD shop that was playing the entire disc, and it sounded really fantastic. I think I need a dedicated listen to the entire album.
This leads me to a question, though. Has the shuffle feature on portable players "ruined" our listening experience?

For some albums, sure, but I wouldn't think so for the music he makes. He's not making concept albums that are meant to be taken in at once.
