So, as the title ingeniously suggests, I'm experimenting with turning shows and movies I get ahold of on my computer into DVDs that will play on normal DVD-players.

My first attempt was a Brian Regan collection that worked in theory, but one of the videos didn't work entirely and the other two had choppy results. As you may surmise, I'd like to fix this.

The files I have tried to copy have unanimously been .AVI files, burned using Nero Vision. I've considered the possibility that format is a problem, but all my regular searching has yielded nothing.

My questions, therefore, are twofold:

1. What is the proven most effective way to get high-quality video files on a DVD that jives with regular DVD players; or...
2. What is the best way to hook up a laptop to a TV with an A/V input to watch shows on the TV?

Get a Divx DVD player. No converting necessary. Save file to DVD, then insert disc into DVD player and press play.

If worse comes to worst, I'll investigate into those.

In the meantime, anything less than a $40 investment?

I paid $33 for mine. It's a Magnavox, model MWD 7006.

I got a Phillips dvd player a few months back for about $50 that has a usb input. Just about any kind of video you can write to a flash drive or external hard drive plays on it just fine.
