It seemed like he yelled "nigger" for an hour. A lot of attitude, but weak content.
And what's with the different locations? Should we care that he recorded this special in 3 parts of the world? Who gives a fuck? Was it his way to show off three different black outfits?
Tedious. loud, boring. No belly laughs, a couple of chuckles so far.
Scraping shrimp at red lobster? this is funny? black woman don't like ugly white men? neither do white woman. this is funny? brilliant observation? ass water? tragic.
jumped the shark. he's lost his edge.
he stunk on ice.
the emporer has no clothes.
This special is great. Your opinion is worthless. I base that not on this one opinion of yours but all of them.

even if his routine wasn't as funny as usual, he's still funny in person....which most comics can't claim..
he's one of the few comics who go on talk shows and makeyou laugh.

He's only funny in person and in Beverly Hills Ninja. The acting chops on that cat!

Didn't Colin call Patrice "Fatt Williams" on Opie and Anthony the other day?
I thought that was hilarious

I thought it was a good, but not great, perfomance.
Rock is still one of the funniest performers working today but I would have to agree that his HBO Specials are on a "reverse ascent" not unlike the trajectory that Ron was describing for Q. Tarantino's movies a few weeks ago.

I would have laughed to, but I missed that dammit. I really enjoy the comedians constant smashing of each other. It reminds me of hanging with my friends.

Truth. He's also one of best comedic writers out there, too. I wish he'd do more books and editorial-type pieces.

Thought it was stellar. Wasn't a Carlin classic, but it was damn good.
He also jumped around a bit and didn't spend the whole topic talking about blacks.
Never though I'd hear him sing No Doubt.

it was good but that thing of editing 3 different shows was such a mistake...it was so distracting when he would say his punchline and be wearing completely different clothes. Just a bad concept
I ended up doing other stuff and just listening to it because the visual was annoying me

Chris Rock hasn't done anything good since his early stuff.
His delivery is too annoying for a 90 minute special. Do we really need to hear the setup 6 times in a row? He is great at working the crowd and the audience will always get their money's worth, but the material lately has been Dane Cook-esque.

point well taken. t thought about that when i hit the submit button. i dunno. it was such a huge disappointment. i couldn't wait. i actually turned it off it was such a huge letdown. i had such high expectations. this was a guy who set the bar so fucking high. i guess it's unrealistic to expect that same level of humor.
the only guy who batted .400 consistently was richard pryor. i defy anyone to show me a weak set from that guy. rock is a poser compared to pryor.

I meant Rockville, ya racist.
is it racist or rascist?
why? because i said i didn't like a black person? or because i used the term "nigger" in the context of chris rock repeatedly hitting us over the head with that word for a cheap laugh?
it's politically correct nonsense like your accusation that has us in the ridiculous state we find ourselves in right now.

that's a great point. i believe his strong appearances on the talk show circuit really primed me for that same level of laugh out material.
he was genius on howard stern, and hilarious on larry king and bill maher. but i still stand by my comment that his hbo special was forced and unfunny.

LOL. hokay hotshot. i guess batting a thousand is what you think is the right term? okay, batting a thousand. happy pappy?
my credentials as a baseball aficionado only stem from playing what you would regard today as d-3 college ball, and coaching my sons little league teams when they were young.
i stand corrected.
my point was in baseball terms, anyone batting above .399 is considered at another level. like that body-less ted williams.
so chris rock was flirting with the rarified air of .400 that ted, (richard pryor) had achieved.
whateva.
(tedious ruminations on 1980's baseball ALERT. no further relevance to the chris rock special. you can stop reading this post if you expect any further pithy comments or retaliatory insults to any jerk offs who have the unmitigated audacity to call me out. hank yoooooooooo).
george brett flirted with that rare air in the early 80's. so chris rock is the george brett of comedy.
i hasten back to my favorite world series, the royals/phillies, 1980. that particular series had more characters and great plays than any series before or since in my recollection.
from royals shortstop tj washington with the toothpick, manager houser, brett, white, the closer with the submarine action, he's dead now, can't remember his name, to the entire phillies team. all characters.
the bull, maddox, nutty larry bowa, the closer tug mcgraw hitting his thigh with his glove, rose letting the bad pitch hitting him in ass for the free ticket to first. also i think rose tried to hit an intentional walk pitch in that series. schmidt, vuk, i could name them all. wonderful crew. every game was a tense masterpiece. at least how i remember it.
i think it's the lack of characters that are missing in the game today. or maybe i'm spending too much time on the fox soccer channel watching the epl and serie A.
but i digress.
okay. i meant batting a thousand.

I thought the first 45 minutes were AMAZING, but the last 25 or so were decent but not great. But that first 45 was classic, probably, at least as far as I'm concerned, the best stuff he's ever done.
Hopefully Comedy Central will eventually stop running Bigger and Blacker. I've seen it a million times and it actually made me start to hate Chris Rock because it was the only thing of his that was ever on TV.

have to raincheck on my opinion....ta ta for now!
