Oh, I loved him in The Long Hot Summer, Cool Hand Luke and Slapshot!
He was quite a guy. He was married to Joanne Woodward for 50 years and gave all profits from his food company to charity.
RIP my good man.

I can't believe it. I just bought a jar of his spaghetti sauce last week.
And honestly, it was the best jarred sauce I ever had.
I'll continue to support his products.

Going through IMDB, i see that he did next to nothing in the 80's:

# Blaze (1989) .... Gov. Earl K. Long
# Fat Man and Little Boy (1989) .... Gen. Leslie R. Groves
... aka Shadow Makers (UK)
# The Color of Money (1986) .... Fast Eddie Felson
# Harry & Son (1984) .... Harry Keach
# The Verdict (1982) .... Frank Galvin
# Come Along with Me (1982) (TV)
# Absence of Malice (1981) .... Michael Colin Gallagher
# Fort Apache the Bronx (1981) .... Murphy
# When Time Ran Out... (1980) .... Hank Anderson

The Verdict was great. He shoulda won Best Actor for Cool Hand Luke but the competition that year was tough. Winner:
In the Heat of the Night (1967) - Rod Steiger

Other Nominees:
Bonnie and Clyde (1967) - Warren Beatty
Cool Hand Luke (1967) - Paul Newman (I)
Graduate, The (1967) - Dustin Hoffman
Guess Who's Coming to Dinner (1967) - Spencer Tracy

And I'll eat Newman's Own popcorn during it.

A good one that shows how well he held up in Hollywood as he aged is "Road to Perdition"

He was 77 when he co-starred with Tom Hanks in that.

I used to see him about once a week; my brother [wrestlling] went to the same school as his daughter Cleo [horse riding], and I'd go to visit my brother, and there it was; the car with the 'ILUV2RACE' license plates. And there he was, almost every week sometimes, visiting the kid.

He was very short, and very skinny. And his eyes were almost laser beams of blue. What held his pants up I have no idea. And a great guy, you just nodded and said hello and he'd respond, or not. He was left alone, being God and all. Cool thing, an article mentioned, he never had to introduce himself. Ever. There are few souls who dont recognize that man.

My little bro graduated with Cleo and went to her graduation party at Newman's House. My brother was in the kitchen when he heard 'You wanna Beer?' and he turned around and Paul was handing him a Bud.

Shoulda gotten a pic with the guy but it was all very intimate, not a movie premiere, it was a private school.

So theres my brushes with fame a la Newman.

Oh, and best movie [IMHO] The Verdict. Watching him punch a chick square in the face = priceless.

This is the case...

There is no other case...

This is the case...

It's an epitaph, not a license plate.

No doubt that Paul Newman had it going on...

It sometimes wierded me out that I found him SO attractive, yet he was two years older than my mom. (Too this day I still find that ODD.)

He was a great actor AND a great humanitarian.

His family is in my thoughts and prayers.

I never got to meet him, but he used to come to my town a lot because of our proximity to Summit Point Raceway. My sister met him about 30 years ago at a local discount department store. She said he was very nice.

What I find odd, is that whenever I think of either Newman or Redford, I always think of the other. And I only know of two movies they did together.

I do too.

I SO LOVED his direction of the tele-play "The Effects of Gamma Rays Man-on-The-Moon Marigolds." I was in 9th grade when I read it and LOVED the screenplay that starred Joanne Woodward and was directed by Paul Newman. I re-read it not too long ago. The original production was great, but I think it still stands up to today's standards.
