PITTSBURGH -- A woman from the suburban South Hills said she spent about a week in Allegheny County Jail because of overdue videos.

Anna Mae Leach, 40, of Castle Shannon, said her legal troubles started when she struck a car as she backed out of her driveway on Nov. 20. Police responded to the fender bender and ran a routine background check on Leach.
Two days after the accident, officials arrested Leach at her work and charged with theft of leased property. Leach said the constables told her she would be released in a few hours.
But hours turned into days, and Leach said she still did not know why she was being held.
She finally discovered that she was accused of not returning three rentals to West Coast Video on Liberty Avenue in Pittsburgh's Bloomfield section. Officials said Leach owes the store $190 in fines for the videos, which were taken out in 1989.
Leach said she never rented the videos, and she thinks someone forged her name.
A county judge said he was upset to learn why Leach was being jailed, so he ordered her released on her own recognizance. She still faces a preliminary hearing and a possible trial.
