I must admit ive heard them mentioned from time to time, but I'd never really taken the time to seek them out/listen to them.

Heard them on my radio today, and was utterly perplexed. I have no idea what I'm listening to or what particularly makes them so loved by critics. Hate using this term, but is it one of those "too cool for the room" gimmicks? What type of genre would I classify them in?

Please note, i am not ripping the band in any way, shape or form. I merely wish to be educated about them. Are there any particular songs I should be on the lookout for?

i wouldn't put them in the 'too cool' list ... they're an icelandic band with a very heavy classical, atmospheric sound

ron mentioned that he liked to listen to pink floyd on his ipod while walking around NYC, sigur ros is perfect for that ... or great for a sunday morning

but for every band, there's always people to make too much a fuss over some simple songs

well they are singing in a invented gibberish language. Maybe if they sung in English you could understand them?

Sigur Rós seems like a very cerebral band to me. whenever i have something important that requires concentration, they are my goto guys on my ipod.

the use of the bow on the electric guitar creates a sound that reminds me of the deepest mourning. it gives me chills every time.

Phishay, come back to us! If you don't feel like music one week, do a show with Snoogans and/or Bossanova. Radio gold!

They had music featured in Vanilla Sky but i guess it was overlooked because of the fact that the movie was Vanilla Sky.

I don't know why I like them but I do, Its very atmospheric stuff. Its like music from the future or something

I would describe it as naturalistic instrumental.

I think it's very cerebral and environmental, and you're really suppose to write the narrative of the music in your head, depending on how you react to it (which is a fancy way of saying it is what you make of it).

Explosions in the Sky is similar, as well, although, somewhat different stylistically.

Sigur Ros is fantastic.

i think the songs used in that movie soundtrack were svefn-g-englar, agaetis byrjun, and Njosnavelin

Love this band. Saw them live a few years ago and they are absolutely amazing. Has anyone picked up the DVD?

Correct, although Njosnavelin is also Untitled 4 from the ( ) album.

On a side note, I know the band said that they didn't really like Vanilla Sky, but the way Cameron Crowe wove Njosnavelin into the ending montage of that movie was genius.

The guy knows how to use music.
