I have been having trouble sleeping the whole night through. Anyone else?
I talked to a few people who have ben having the same issue.
I go to bed, and fall asleep, then I wake up at like 1 or 2 in the morning and cant fall asleep again. I toss and turn all night trying to sleep.
I am freaking exhausted!

Exercise... you might not have the energy to do it at first, but after the first two or three days you will feel stronger and your body will thank you with a wonderfully long night's sleep. I like a nice 1/2 hour - 45 minute walk at night. It's gotten to the point where it's more relaxing than invigorating.

I recently started waking up 2 or 3 times at night. Then I'll finally get up at 5AM and can't fall back asleep for the extra hour I should. This started about 2 months ago.

I've had the same problem. It started six weeks ago.

I'm stressed about work. I exercise six days a week.

When you wake up early, read a book (not an exciting one).
Otherwise you might get into a sleeping pattern that is hard to break.

It COULD be the changing of the seasons that could be hindering your sleep.

But I used to have bouts of insomnia. I tried everything in the book. I went to the doctor, he prescribed me lunesta and then at a later time provigil. They worked, but if I didn't take them I'd still have problems. I then went to a sleep center and I stayed over night, and they couldn't find anything wrong with me. After my prescription ran out, I slept fine. Maybe the prescription jump-started my sleep. I still have bouts of insomnia but it's usually if I'm doing stuff the next day that stresses me out, even though I think that I'm not stressed by it, it usually hinders my sleep. Lately, I've been taking 3 valerian root pills before I go to bed, I guess it's been working.

Also, Melatonin helps out a little bit.

Im going to try the walking, but I had walked on several nights and still had problems. I know I have had a lot on my mind and when I do wake up my mind is racing. I wish I had access to some kind of sleep drug.

Have you thought about a sleep study. I use to wake up suddenly at night with my mind racing all the time. Turns out i have sleep apnea. I use a machine now and I sleep like a baby through the night.

have a strong cup of coffee or tea about 4hrs before you go to bed.
when the caffine rush dies down sleep will come easy:sleep:

or just spank it right before you go to bed

I was thinking about it because my father has t bad and I have been told I make the same noises when I sleep and I know its bad for the heart. Today at work I was totally out of it until around 11 am. It was bad. I felt like I had a hang over.

I regularly wake up around 9am... go to bed at 4am. If I go to sleep at 11pm-2am, guaranteed I'll wake up 2 hours after I fall asleep. It fucking blows.

I toss and turn all night trying to sleep.

I use to do the same thing. Then I gave up worrying that I wasn't going to sleep well or at all that night. Now I accept the 3 to 4 hours I will sleep and don't fret about not sleeping or being tired the next day.

i'm usually good for 3 or 4 hours before waking. then it's intermittent naps for the next couple hours. tried ambien for a while but if fucks my head up for days afterwards, especially if i have a cup of coffee, it's like taking speed... plus ambien just stretched 3 or 4 to 4 or 5

Going back to the drinking thing, I can have 15 beers and I'm awake at 3 am and thats it. I could go to bed at midnight and I'm still up at 3, but on the other hand I can go to bed at 1 am and then come 3 am I am awake and have nothing else to do but shower and make some coffee. I don't know what it is, but it sucks. I think though it may have something to do with the 2 yrs after I got out of high school I worked overnights and was used to being up at the hours I wake up now.

I think this is the best answer. One of the things that intensifies my insomnia is knowing that if I don't get to sleep, tomorrow will be an awful day. It's a vicious circle. I can't sleep, and knowing I can't sleep keeps me awake and stressing out. I finally realized that I can survive a bad night here and there, and it won't hurt be as long as I get enough caffeine in me the next day.

Alcohol doesn't help me at all BTW. I used to sleep like a baby after a night of drinking, but for some reason if I have more than a few drinks now, I sleep like shit. I can pass out, but I'll wake up in the middle of the night. I also tried taking Tylenol's Simply Sleep (basically the same thing as Tylenol PM without acetaminophen), and while it did help me sleep a little better, it made me feel really groggy the next day like I had a hangover.

My doctor gave me Ambien, has anyone used it? He gave me a small dose and it did not really work the first few times I took it. It was like 5 mg

my guy takes ambien, because he has sleeping problems also. it seems to work fine for him. if you take it and try to stay up, it almost has a trippy effect. when he told me that, i had to try it for myself. good stuff. just dont mix it with anything. and i would take it so that it gives you enough time to sleep it off...dont take it if you're only going to have to get up in 5-6 hours.

without the meds, i would also recommend exercise, but not too late at night (try and do it right after dinner or before dinner) because it'll just boost your metabolism and make it that much harder to fall asleep.

warm baths will also help relax you. if you have tv in your room, try not to watch it in there anymore, because it only causes more of a distraction. and for maybe 1-2 hours before your bedtime, limit as much lights as you can (maybe use candles). the decrease in light will help stimulate the receptors in your brain that tell you to go to sleep.

It kind of figures, but I was thinking tonight after I made the last post that I have taken the Ambien for a week and have been sleeping okay, but I also was worried that I could become hooked on it. So, I did not take it tonight, and I went to bed and fell asleep, but now it is almost 2AM and I woke up and cant fall back to sleep. I cant freakin win!
