View Full Version : Lost 2.0 viewing thread (hop aboard from the beginning!)
At the suggestion of ChrisTheCop and Doc Manhattan, I think we need this extra thread.
Sci-Fi and G4 recently started re-airing Lost from Season 1.
Whether you want to hop on the show with them, or you decide to pick up the DVDs and watch from the beginning, this is the place for you.
This avoids picking up spoilers by accident, and gives people a chance to discuss the show from where they're at in the series without people like us ruining it for them.

There is a hatch. And a smoke monster.
Been watching a lot of the first season episodes again on SciFi.
Caught an early second season episode on G4 tonight. I know it's a pretty common joke to make fun of how awfully written the Michael character is (half his lines are 'WAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLTTTTT!!!').
But when they actually gave Harold Perrineau a chance to do some acting, he's great. Very underrated, and horribly misused for most of the series.

Yeah, I'm late to the party. I just started watching a couple of weeks ago and I'm about midway through season 2. I'm enjoying it so far. For those who are already caught up, do the plot trwists ever get so ridiculous that you have that "you've got to be kidding me" moment? I already got burned by the U.S. finale of Life on Mars, and I'd rather not get burned again.
Another question -- Shannon is now dead. Her character seems pretty poorly written, because the flashbacks never really seem to satisfactorily explain why she became such a super-bitch. When she got to the island, she was acting like a spoiled brat, but if anything, being cut-off by her rich stepmother and being forced on her own probably would have humbled her. Is there any further explanation now that she's dead?

I can't remember that far back to tell you if there is another Shannon or Boone episode because I thought it was explained. Now I don't want to say it in case there is a spoiler. I'll check IMDB and see before I respond to that.
As for plot twists, I've never said 'you've got to be kidding me' but I've been hooked since day one of this show. To give you an idea of my tastes I bailed on Life on Mars (American) about 4 episodes in and have gave up on Heroes this year as well. But I still LOVE Lost and the fact that they have a planned end date makes a huge difference.
*EDIT* You would think Shannon would be humbled when she got off but she went in the opposite direction. She started manipulating men for money and when that wasn't working that well, she called upon Boone. Using his feelings for her to get money out of him. That's how he ended up in Australia, she called him down, pretended that her current man was beating her to get money out of Boone. She was already had that attitude before she crashed. A gold digging manipulator.

I don't think the plot twists ever get too ridiculous. I mean the whole premise is to some degree but they tell the story within the parameters they've established.
I do think the weak point of the series (if any) is midway thru season 2, I think they tried to be something they weren't and let critics and fans dictate their story. But I thought the middle of season 3 was just brilliant.

i thought it was really obvious that she was a spoiled rich girl living off of men....
and i really didn't want her character anymore developed, when they opened an episode with her sunbathing...then turning over to show us her ass....i pretty much knew what she was there for.
and Season 3 is where the show sort of took off for me as well.

So what's the deal with the polar bear?
And how come the big fat guy never stops being big and fat even though he's stuck on an island in the middle of nowhere?
That's all I know about this show. I refuse to watch it until it's all done and it's been deemed to not have ended up as a clusterfuck. I got burned by good "weird shows" like Twin Peaks and the X-Files that started off great or were even great for years until it was like, "oh, fuck, why is this happening?!?! WHAT'S GOING WRONG?!? MAAAAAAAKE IT STOOOOOOP!!!"

people have speculated that the bear was trained, in the cage that held sawyer, to push the wheel that ben pushed.
this way dharma could test the wheel's 'magical' properties.

Stick with it. The season has been excellent with tying up things in past seasons and has just gotten better and better. According to me, of course.

Let people be as confused as you were until things get (or dont get) explained.
Thats half the fun of watching this show; being LOST.
I will just repeat, for Mojo and others timid to start another show that will fuck em in the end, the difference here is that there IS an end in sight! 6 seasons and out. No cancellations, no David Chase involvement... the end is coming!!! And it is promised.

No, if you're past the part where Shannon gets shot, she's done.
Her and Boone pop-up, but it's more incidental. No further character explanation or development.
I think the point was that her rich stepmother cutting her off and ruining her dream was what turned her into a super-bitch, and she took it out on Boone. In the Boone episode from Season 1, when Shannon makes him fly to Australia and cons him out of that money, Boone has a realization and makes a comment like "you've been doing this the whole time?"
It implies that piece by piece, she's been trying to get her money back through Boone.
I never really thought it was a good character.

Just finished Season 2. In one of the last episodes of the season, Locke says they've been on the island for 60 odd days. So two years of the show adds up to a little more than two months on the island. Whoever is in charge of making sure that the look of the people on the island remains consistent forgot to pay attention to Sun's hair. It grows a crazy amount from the beginning of season 1 until the end of season 2.
Also, Walt is rarely seen in season 2, and when he is, it's just for a moment, or it's in a situation where he's crouched in the cabin of the boat in the season finale. I wonder if that was a necessity because he grew over those two years.

I personally think that they had bigger plans for Walt as to the overall storyline (given his "powers" shown in season 1), but had to drop/amend them based upon the fact that he grew quickly in those 2 years.

I am up to season 4. I'm really flying through the show. It helps that I'm watching the show on an iPod, so I can watch anytime I'm stuck on a train, standing in line, etc. Here's my question -- I'm up to episode 3 of Season 4 ("the Economist"), and I noticed that the first three episodes of season had Harold Perrineau (Michael) listed in the credits. After the first episode, I figured I just missed his appearance. However, by the third episode, it was pretty clear that if he was in the episode, he was pretty well hidden. I went to IMDB, and it confirmed that he was in the credits for those episodes, but he is listed as "credit only", so it appears that he wasn't in the episodes at all. Since he hadn't been on the show since he left on the boat with Walt at the end of season 2, and he wasn't in the credits for the season 3 episodes, this seems odd to me. Does anyone know why they did this?

I'm actually caught up now. The first few episodes of Season 5 I wasn't digging too much. There were too many disparate subplots -- Oceanic 6 after the rescue and three years later, Desmond and Faraday, Sayid shooting people, Jone Locke and the Others, Sawyer, Faraday et al. with the time shifts, hydrogen bomb, Jin returns -- it was hard to get invested in any of it. It got a lot more focused once Jack, Kate, Hurley, Sayid and Sun returned to the island.
