do you feel bad when you hit one?

i killed a squirrel this morning on the way to work and felt bad...for maybe 10 seconds then just went on. i really dont care if i run over a rabbit, squirrel, possum, groundhog, bird, or even deer (because fuck you for totaling my car) i mean i will try to avoid doing it but if it happens it happens

but one time i killed a cat and i felt horrible...like it really bothered me...and i'm pretty sure it was just a farm cat (not anyones pet)....and if i killed a dog it would be even worse

i just find this odd...but i know there are people out there that dont give a shit about it...the guy that ran over my dog a few months ago came to my house and said "do you have a little dog because if so hes dead" and left...i wanted to beat him with my 9 iron...

so do you prioritze your animal killing?

I usually feel bad hitting any kind of animal...well, except birds. My dad would always get mad when I would slam on the brakes or swerve. He's totally right b/c one time I slammed on the brakes for a chipmunk and someone slammed into the back of me. Cost me $2000.

sounds reasonable. there are plenty of squirrels around, but not really anywhere you'd be drivin' too fast.

I would feel bad, at least for a little while. Especially if it was a dog.

Any domesticated animal would be bad.

In order of descending importance, it would be dog, cat, rabbit, squirrel.

Squirrels seem to want to dart out in front of me when I am riding my bike. So far I have been able to avoid them. If one causes me to crash, I'm going to kick its ass.

I do kind of feel bad, especially if it is a cat or dog. But then I justify it by realizing that the animal was fucking stupid for getting in front of my car. That's why you have super hearing and shit, you dumb animals! Use them!

Occasionally I hunt, and I would feel really bad if I made a bad shot and the deer didn't die instantly. However, that has never happened, because I am a bad-ass sharp-shooting motherfucker.

I might as well be your dad. I don't even touch the brakes (except for deer). I'm not risking an accident for a fucking rodent. Needless to say I've created my share of roadkill.

I feel bad if I hit an animal and it doesn't get killed. If it is suffering, I feel bad.

I had a dream last night that I accidentally killed a bunch of my fish, and it was likely that the rest were going to die too.

It's a long, weird story, but it made me sad. Especially now that I have my own fish as well, not just the pair of big tanks elsewhere in the house. I've become attached very quickly to my fish.

If its a pet, then absolutely. Someone loved that animal. If its a wild animal that is allowed to breed unchecked, then it assumes the risk of automobiles, hunters, etc.

If they hit you from behind, that's 100% the fault of the other guy. Did you pay for any of that?

I'd feel horrible if I killed ANY animal.

Just because dogs and cats are domesticated, and it would be worse if it was one of MY pets, I don't think that a stranger should prioritize their life's "worth"

It's the same with humans...if somebody you KNOW dies...it's horrible...if it's a stranger, though certain circumstances may come into play, it isn't so bad.

One time I was driving with my ex and I hit something out of nowhere. I pull over and we see that it was a rabbit. The problem is that I didn't kill it, so she convinces me the right thing to do is to run it over a second time to put it out of its misery. The second time is what I felt bad about.

You'd have to be heartless to not feel bad for running over someone's pet.

Wild animals, just population control.

It's Fox vs. Fox!

Man picks up 'dead' fox, wrecks after it revives (http://www.theleafchronicle.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=2008810060325)

Tommy Fox was driving home from his job in Dover Wednesday at about 11 p.m. when a beautiful red fox dashed in front of his SUV.

After he ran over the fox, he stopped his GMC Jimmy to get the fox to cut off its tail for a souvenir, and he put it in the back seat, said Dale Grandstaff, a Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency wildlife officer.

I have been lucky enough not to run over any animal

but on 2 occasions, I have had Birds (pigeons) fly into my window and splatter

I laughed at that, not my fault, just bad flying by those awful rats with wings

The only animal I ever hit was a turtle that, I swear, ran in front of my car. This happened a few weeks after I got my license, so it shook me up a bit.

I live across the street from a farm, and at least once a month there'll be a dead chicken or guinea hen either on the side of the road or completely flattened in the middle of it.

I remember one night about 15 years ago, and I had gone out with some guys after work for a few drinks, and as I was driving home, I was a bit messed up, and I was driving down this long two lane road on my way home. It was a rural unlit road and I was behind another car and suddenly something came out from under the car in front of me, and I was too close to stop or react, and I saw at the last second it was a dog that the guy in front had run over. In a flash it went under my car and I heard the thud and knew that it must have been killed. I was instantly sober and pissed and horrified at the same time. I could find no trace of the dog, and so I went home. If a cop came along I was scared that Id be caught drinking and driving and I had a driving job. It haunts me to this day.

in the past 7 years I've hit 4 deer, killed 2, and had 3 deer run head first into my driver or passenger side door. i hit a hawk in the legs with my windshield and have run over practically every type of animal living in New Jersey... nailed a possum on the NJ Turnpike doing 70, sounded like i ran over a bowling ball, one deer I hit at 65mph and accelerating, luckily it was small but it was a sight to 'not see'

i normally leave work at 2 a.m. so I'm on the road alot when it's dark... even when you run over the smallest frog you can feel the slight 'thud' under the tire

when a silver fox ran under my car I could swear he was looking me dead in the eye as he came from the darkness on the side of the road, into the headlights and then under the tire

and i don't speed, just do the limit

never hit a dog or cat though

another wierd one: i left work at 2 a.m. and was riding Schalks Crossing towards Plainsboro when I see a girl sitting on the curb bleeding and a couple guys consoling her. i had to veer around her car, i was going very slow and what do I see laying in the road? a small "black as coal" cow... to this day I still feel wierd about it and wonder where the fuck that cow came from

I live in a fairly rural area (hayseed country) and there are dead possums, rabbits and squirrels all over the place. I would never slow down for any of those, but I will for a raccoon because they are a dense animal that will hurt your car.

I have never hit a domesticated pet though, and I would feel awful if I did, especially a dog. I love my dogs.

I don't feel terrible if I hit a wild animal, unless it's a deer. But I feel terrible for my car, not the deer. I go out of my way not to, but I don't loose any sleep over killing a small wild animal. I've never hit a pet, but I know I'd feel awful. I'd feel bad for the owner, and let's face it. Dogs and cats show love for humans. Wild animals don't.

I was once on a date with a girlfriend, and she hit a cat. She was a HUGE cat lover. She immediately yelled, "What did I hit?" We were in the middle of nowhere, so I knew there was no chance of finding the owner (and it was probably a stray). I knew she'd be an emotional mess if I told her it was a cat. I told her it was groundhog. She still felt bad, but not as bad as if she knew the truth. I've since told her the truth, and she was grateful that I lied.
