Mike and I were in Target today, and bought the most awesome window clings ever:

It's really the only holiday I truly love. Just good food and fun decorations! And no gifts to buy and wrap, can't beat it.

We're looking forward to Halloween decorations this year.

Ordinarily, we just carve pumpkins, but we will have a whole porch and a path and stuff like that this year ... it's exciting.

Oooh, and I saw the coolest looking pumpkin scoop in the craft store the other day .... gotta get me one of those!

Halloween starts the "decorating season" for my wife

She Decorates the Windows and buys those silly chachkees to decorate the inside of the house

We also go to Freehold and Apple and Pumpkin Pick in Early October, I love their Fresh Cider Doughnuts that come off the fryer, but hate being a gay and picking apples

I agree with decorating for Halloween, Xmas (Channukah) , Valentine's Day and Easter but Thanksgiving, do you really need decorations and crap for Thanksgiving

just went out yesterday and got:

corn stalks
hay bails
mums
pumpkins
long neck squash

for the front porch

the scat stays in the bedroom

We have flags and decorations for every conceivable holiday, season, event. She goes real hard with the decorating.

You can reuse most of the generic stuff you have from Halloween at Thanksgiving. Obviously, you wouldn't want your skeletons and bats next to silly little Pilgrims, but you can definitely reuse anything "harvest-y."

And, if you don't carve your pumpkins, you can use them as a display piece at Thanksgiving. (Of course, I have a Pumpkin Masters carving pattern book from 2001 or 2002 that has a turkey template ... it could easily be used at Thanksgiving for a centerpiece.)

Lastly, just wait until you have kids. You'll get the little construction-paper turkeys made from their hand-tracings and Pilgrim hats. (It's one of the few holidays that, despite its religious origins, offends almost nobody. Schools can't get enough of it!)

I like valentine's day decorations, because otherwise February is pretty much gray. Brightens things up a bit. But I also decorate for the summer (tikis, party lights, etc.).

Dad has a flag for Pentecost (http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/15614b.htm).

It is one of the few decor-related things in which he takes great pride.

Well, that and his St. Francis of Assisi statuette that goes in the center of the Advent Wreath.

Halloween is really an awesome holiday. The best is trolling through different stores, looking at their halloween decorations and what they have for sale.

Lots of Domokon Halloween stuff at target. He's hit the mainstream now. You have to take Piper to target, the two of you will have a field day.

You know what's funny? She's taking a week off (starting October 1) to do a shit load of Halloween shopping. We usually hit up this halloween store on 12th and Broadway, another one by bleecker, and the Brooklyn Target. Have any suggestions?

We're big on Halloween. Not so much on Christmas. Although, we picked up this 7' blowup Rudolph a few years ago and it's been a tradition to set it up every year:

This year we're thinking of setting it up outside...

I'm sure all the Targets carry the same stuff, so that shouldn't matter. I love the place on Bleeker. I'd also check out Toys R Us (you'd be suprised, sometimes they are good with their assortment). What about Ricky's on Broadway (between Franklin and White)? They used to be good, but I haven't been there in a few years.

Ricky's is getting really mainstream and doing more make up based stuff.

That's a shame. I wish Spenser's Gifts didn't get crappy, because they used to have some good stuff.

i hang green skeleton lights, line my driveway with candles in fancy paper bags, i have a yard ornament that's a ghost, numerous window clings, a spider that makes an eerie noise when you walk under it, a cd that plays spooky sounds and spider webs that look real :D i fucking love Halloween, especially down here b/c the weather is perfect and the bible thumpers run for cover. great thread btw!

Sadly, we don't see many trick or treaters anymore. I don't know if it is because the parents are afraid of the "danger", or because of the religious beliefs of the people moving in. But I still decorate anyway, because I get enjoyment out of it. To paraphrase Al Jourgensen and Ministry, I wish every day was Halloween!
