I saw an ad for this movie on IMDB's homepage. I checked out the trailer and it looks pretty good, definitely going to check this one out.

I thought that the book was really good, I am surprised they picked it for a movie though.

The movie was okay, but won't be as remembered as Fight Club.

my favorite Palahniuk novel. I'm totally expecting the film to be more lowkey. I'm not expecting another "Fight Club" so I think i'll love it

I'm looking forward to it...but not as much as I would if it were Survivor or Lullaby.

i didnt read "rant". I picked up "Snuff" and during my power outage, i was in dread that finishing that book was the only thing left to read. I just have no interest..i actually found a mall with power and bought a book of pop culture crossword puzzles instead haha

I'm a little burned out on Palahniuk these days, but I'm still curious about the movie. I wonder how faithful it could possibly be to the novel while maintaining an R rating.

the trailer shows that the scene where the safe word is "Poodle" is intact!

I started reading the book a while ago, but somehow never finished. I think I got involved with something else and it got put off to the wayside. I'm working on 'It' and the Watchmen book, so when I'm done with those I'll start Choke over again. Same thing happened when I started reading Invisible Monsters, which I was also really into before something impeded my progress.

Speaking of books, isn't there a screen version of Stephen King's 'The Long Walk' in the works? I went out and got it after Jimmy recommended it, and it was just awesome. Finished it in a couple nights.

But back on topic, I've been excited about the Choke movie since it was announced a while ago. At least a year and a half ago, if not more. The amount of the book I've read was awesome, though.

I'm too ADD to read books. I have to only have one available to me at a time, because otherwise I start reading something else and forget about what I was reading. I think I started reading Invisible Monsters 3 years ago, maybe more.

Aaaaaaaannnnyyyyywayyyy.........

i saw the movie today. very good.

its hard to watch it unbias cuz i read the book. i watch it more like "oh i like how they handled that aspect of the book". But Sam Rockwell is def great in the part.

Its interesting that they actually made this dark novel into a sweet movie. Im interested in seeing what people with a fresh perspective (didnt read the book) thinks of the movie, but i think it did a very good job

oh, and the song on the final scene/end credits is "Reckoner" by radiohead. thats an awesome tune!

the movie kinda reminded me of Jimmy Norton, cuz its about a sex addict thats actually a sweet man. Just like Jimmy, hes a sex addict who does horrific sex acts, but hes a sweet boy. And he was voted Boy with the Applest Cheeks 3 years in a row

I'm glad Survivor can't be made into a movie because I was greatly disappointed in that book.

I'm skeptical about this movie, but I'm willing to give it a shot nonetheless.

survivor is one of the best Palahniuk though. Don't read any of his other stuff if you couldn't get into that one, you'll just waste your time

There's no reason Survivor can't be made into a movie.
also, does Sam Rockwell repeatedly say "For serious, dude..." throughout Choke?

I disagree. I've read several of his books and Survivor was the only one I stopped reading.

Fight Club and Choke I've already gotten through, and I've caught a glimpse of Haunted (the hype about the "Guts" story piqued my curiosity), so it's not the author's style I have an issue with. It's just that Survivor seemed to lack the same punch those other two had.

Granted, the characters were interesting, but the first two books I read were awesome, and then Survivor was meh. Maybe if I started there, I would've had a better shot.

I loved Choke. How could you not like the ghost book based on his short stories? That thing was fucking disgustingly good.

Choke is my favorite. EVeryone I know says "Haunted" sucks...i read "Guts" many times (when it was first published in "playboy") but all that Lullaby, Diary, Snuff books just seem uninspired to me

There's no reason Survivor can't be made into a movie.

I remember watching his documentary thing where he said the Survivor movie was permanently shelved because transgressional fiction - particularly such fiction involving hijacked planes - has became an unpinned grenade for movie-production companies. Maybe that'll change over time, but as long as movie companies make movies based solely on box office returns, we're not gonna see it any time soon.

Actually thinking about it, I'm pretty sure I've only read Choke and Haunted. I tried Survivor but stopped after a bit. Could have just been my mood at the time. I think I know which box of books in the attic it's in, and I will probably give it another GAZ sponsored try.

Thinking of Haunted: I just watched Salo because of the other thread, and I realized it has the same voyeuristic sickness as Haunted. Hideous deliciousness. Guts was the standout piece, but the whole thing worked sickeningly well.

Did you read that non-fiction anthology, the one with the murderer's boots as seen by his father from under the bed on the cover. I read that one too. Good stuff.

i cant remember if i replied to you in the disturbing movie thread or not, but u should read the "120 days of sodom" Marquis de Sade book that "Salo: 120 days of sodom" is based on. It is so creepy and disturbing and a quick read.

Back to the film of "Choke" though..for anyone who seen it. Who doesn't have a crush on Kelly McDonald? For me shes the hottest. I loved her in Trainspotting. Shes a scottish actor, and in "Choke" she speaks in an American accent that is unlike how any American talks, but it is such a sexy voice. I really wish she was nude in that film..im so into her

What a fucking waste of Sam Rockwell. I found the thing a tedious example of something so far up its own ass over how "shocking" it is that it forgets to do anything else, like, be funny...or good. It wasn't horrible, but it definitely was all over the place and not terribly solid. It just sort of coasted on trying too hard to be a SHOCK MOVIE!!!!!!!!!.

Still, better than the book, just like Fight Club. Chuck should hope for more movies that can make his misanthropic (THAT WORD COST ME TWO BITS) dreck tolerable.

I remember reading a few stories from Stranger than Fiction. I didn't know the boots on the cover were supposed to be his father's murderer; that's really creepy.

I think there are a few people in this world like Palahniuk where really bizarre and fucked-up circumstances just happen to them ALL the time. There's always one person you know who is always just a sinkhole of coincidental karma. It's really apparent if you just know the person, because it only happens to YOU when you're around THEM. I imagine ol' Chuck is that way.

I don't think it's his father's murderer. I think his father, as a child, heard his mom's boyfriend shoot her as he hid under the bed. Then his dad watched the murderer's boots as he tried to find him from under the bed. Chuck's dad survived, and was murdered decades later. I remember reading the book, then realizing what the cover photo meant. Creepy real life shit.

Really? The only books of his I don't like are where the females are the lead. They're not really bad, it's just every woman character is the same with that dude. Insane, drug dependent mess. Diary is the only two I ever put down, and Invisible Monsters wasn't great.
Survivor is actually my favorite Chuck P. I love Haunted too.

As for the movie, the ending is fucking dogshit. The movie really could have, and should have been a half hour longer. My roomate has never read the book, and thought the movie ruled.
Sam Rockwell was absolutely fantastic, as was Angelica Huston.
