(Anyone whose listened to the Ricky Gervais Show podcast will know what I mean, if you haven't, do yourself a favor and download them now)

I have had the pleasure of knowing two basically around the same timeframe in the last four years or so. The problem is, one sort of moved away and so I can't enjoy his lunacy anymore, the other one however, became self aware, and tried to 'be himself' to make me and our mutual friend Paul laugh, and it became annoying.
Some topic sentences examples of these guys include
"What is DNA?"
"How does the heart work, I mean, doesn't the body replenish blood right away when you lose it?"

Anyone else know a gem of a stupid mank in the vein of Karl?

when i worked for the city, there were plenty of guys with a skewed sense of american history, and the white man's science -- but no one with the pie-eyed innocence of karl

i really enjoyed karl with russel brand, there's a dynamic with gervais and merchant that really reminds me of O&A with Spaz (particularly the week in review segments)

You know, that was the beauty of the guys I knew, because they were so innocent and unaware of themselves (at first) that's what really made them so hilarious.

I know some Karly Pilkingtons.

But, since I'm usually in the conversation with them, I don't enjoy it as much as I enjoy the podcast.

Oh yes! At this job I had years ago, when I worked at this bagel place.... ooooh wee, I worked with quite a Pilkington! This Pilk would constantly bring up the fact that there are live cultures in yogurt...told me never to eat yogurt cause you're destroying cultures.....Serious. Even had a head like a fucking orange! Oh, and she was a girl....

My chick can ask some very cute Pilkingtonesque questions - love her to death.

This is said with frequency around here ... "... you have a Master's degree!"

i tried to listen to the gervais/merchant podcasts and the XFM shows. I couldn't get around gervais's laughter, he laughs at his own jokes so early you can't make out what was so funny, let alone stephen's response. That combined with it's hard to understand brits when they're all alone talking to each other, they delve into deep accents and unknown references... I never even got to Pilkington.

I've been meaning to fix my ipod and give em another shot.

I think that Karl Pilkington is unique. Sure, there are probably people just as dumb as him, just as ignorant, just as stubborn, incompetent, thick, etc. etc. etc. However, noone has all of those traits to the same extreme degree as Karl.

Dave has some of those traits to a mild degree, especially when he doesn't understand some concept or with his general outlook on life with some things, but Karl is 50 times more so.

Heads like fucking oranges. All of them.

After a while, the show shifts from trying to be current events and being funny to just ripping on Karl, and that's where the show really hits its stride.

That and Monkey News, of course.
