The only silver lining is that the Cubs are beating the Astros who are becoming a pain-in-the-ass.

But for the record...I can't make it anymore clear to either of those meatheads....stay the fuck away from my team!

PHILADELPHIA -- The Brewers watched on television as the Cubs' Carlos Zambrano finished his no-hitter of the Astros on Sunday night, then took the celebration up the dugout tunnel.
In Milwaukee.

At Miller Park.

And in the Brewers' own clubhouse?

"Pretty ironic," Brewers outfielder Ryan Braun said. "They're probably drinking champagne and having a beer shower in our locker room right now, while we sulk about what happened here." (http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20080914&content_id=3478734&vkey=news_chc&fext=.jsp&c_id=chc)

Not surprisingly, this is the first no-no on a neutral site in modern MLB history.

Very surreal. That place was filled with apparently nothing but Cubs fans. I believe the last minute crowd was around 24,000, and damned if there was a single Astros fan in the place.

I think the retractable roof is a mandatory for new stadiums, especially in the Midwest where weather is such a weird element over the long season.

I can't believe that Minnesota is replacing the Metrodome is and is going pure outdoors. That is freaking insanity.

You are nuts. Fielder and his 82 homers in the last 2 seasons > that Matt Cain's 3.81 ERA in the last 2 seasons.

If anything, the Giants should be throwing in extras such as Jonathan Sanchez. Throwing in Hardy would be a damned joke.

I'm just saying, Cain is highly touted and the Brewers desperately need the pitching if they wanna stay in it and they have good offensive players coming up AND there's been the rumblings/pubic displays of Prince's "difficult" personality. Sure, the Giants suck and need the help, but it's not like they're in danger of falling out of a shot of making the playoffs again next year like the Brewers are. There's no way Prince alone gets it done. I think It's Prince plus someone like Hart and a prospect or Prince and a couple of prospects with Cain and another pitching prospect (ideally for the Brewers' stank bullpen) in return.

You should know by now that Peter Gammon's rumors are just stupid. If the Brewers traded Prince they would bring back a haul despite his being an apparent asshole.

More distressing to me is the fact that apparently the Melvin family is preparing to move this off-season.

I'm not talking about Gammons' take; that's my take. The Brewers aren't in the dirver's seat in a deal like this. The Giants have had no problem wallowing in the cellar. There's nothing at stake for them at this point. I don't think it's likely the Brewers would give two established players for Cain, but Fielder and a couple of offensive prospects seems very realistic.

Mind you that Cain isn't the only way Milwaukee can go. This is a horrible free agent class for power hitters....much less first baseman. The Brewers will have multiple options if they decide to move Fielder and would be in the drivers seat...in my opinion.

Now that Fielder's hitting arbitration, he's starting to be limited in who would want to take on his salary.

Remember, Ryan Howard absolutely ruined arbitration for good last season.

Fielder's going to get a ton of money.

He wouldn't fit for a team like San Francisco because they're still way off in rebuilding. If the Brewers were looking to trade him, it'd be to either New York (either team), Anaheim, Baltimore, and maybe the Dodgers.

I'm not sure anyone else would really be able to afford him if his salary starts to escalate in a comparable fashion to Howard's.

A team like the Giants would pay him, but they're not in the position where they'd look to add that piece yet.

Like I said, they're better off trading spare parts like Hardy and Hart, and the moving prospects for pitching.

Final Week Pitching Probables:

Pittsburgh Pirates (Jeff Karstens 2-6, 4.37) vs. Milwaukee Brewers (Dave Bush 9-10, 4.22)
Pittsburgh Pirates (Paul Maholm 9-8, 3.68) vs. Milwaukee Brewers (Jeff Suppan 10-10, 5.06)
Pittsburgh Pirates (Zach Duke 5-14, 4.96) vs. Milwaukee Brewers (C.C. Sabathia 15-10, 2.85)
Chicago Cubs (Ryan Dempster 16-6, 3.02) vs. Milwaukee Brewers (Seth McClung 5-6, 4.22)
Chicago Cubs (TBD) vs. Milwaukee Brewers (TBD)
Chicago Cubs (TBD) vs. Milwaukee Brewers (Dave Bush 9-10, 4.22)

The Cubs would be slated to throw Harden and Zambrano the final two days of the season, but I seriously doubt that'll happen, as Pinella will hold both back to set his rotation for the playoffs. It'll most likely be Marquis and Marshall.

The TBD for the Brewers, is most likely Sheets and whether or not he can go. I'd imagine Manny Parra would get the start, or they'd move Bush and Suppan up the last two days.

Either way, the Brewers shold get two of three from Pittsburgh. The tough game is Suppan vs. Maholm.

I would imagine the Brewers will see very few regulars the last two games of the Cubs series. They should see no one in the final game. The second to last game, they may see a few. So realistically, if they're a playoff team, they should win both of those, unless Pinella decides he wants to spoil them and plays everyone.

So that would really leave the Dempster vs. McClung start as the deciding factor. In the Mets thread, I have the Mets pegged at 3-4 to finish the season.

The Brewers would have to get to 5-1 to force a playoff. I can see them getting four wins, but that Dempster game will be difficult.

I'd have to say 4-2 for the Brew Crew and a narrow miss of the playoffs.

However, if they were to force a playoff, they would most likely have Sabathia on the hill, while the Mets would have burned Santana against Florida and would likely throw Martinez or Pelfrey.

There is another possibility for that TBD...a returning Yovani Gallardo. He isn't really stretched out...but they could patch together a start from Yovani and the bullpen if necessary.

Obviously if they are out of it, Gallardo doesn't see the mound until next spring.

You don't watch Fielder play every day, we do.
He is below average defensively. Can't run at all, only plays one position, is a hot head, is streaky. got in a fight in the dugout with Parra.
His agent is Boras so you know he will want a big contract. Doesn't do enough to warrant the contract he wants.
Brad Nelson could be brought up from Nashville. He would drive in 85 & hit 20 or more homers, .280 ba.
Fielder will have around 100 rbi this season & 35 homers.
Braun signed a reasonable long term deal with the club & is the new face of the team, not Prince.
Trade Prince for pitching. Hardy to 2nd, Escobar ss, Gamel 3rd, Cameron Hart & Braun outfield.
Braun is going to be a major star, he has rib injuries now.
Gallardo will be better than Sheets, Parra will improve, Suppan, Bush & whoever we get for Fielder. The pitching will be ok in 2009, the Brewers should contend for several years.

All the same things have been said about Ryan Howard (except the fighting his pitcher in the dugout part).

In the end, the Brewers would not get anything close to value of what Fielder gives you when he's hot.

He's a guy who can carry his team on his back when he's hot, like Howard does.

He also goes cold like Howard does, and has the same faults. The bottom line is that the good outweighs the bad.

The Brewers need to find better complimentary pieces, not blow up the core.

Believe me, the Phillies went through almost the same thing in 2005 and 2006, and each year, people would scream a little bit louder about how they need to blow that team apart, because that core couldn't win.

I'd listen to anything if I was them, but unless it was an offer that just blows them out of the water, I wouldn't move him for the sake of moving him, or for the likes of a Matt Cain.

Different situation for the Brewers. They have enough talent on the team now and in the minors that they don't have to "blow up the team." They can make a trade centered around Prince to upgrade their pitching and still have a ton of offensive talent to make them competitive.

A. The Cubs can do me a favor and continue to whip the Mets so that I don't have to worry about blowing up the team until after the playoffs.

B. I hate to admit this at any point of my life, but Mojo is right that the Brewers are in a different place on this one. With their minor league system being stocked, they are in a position of strength to deal Fielder if they so choose.

Odds would if they move Fielder, Brad Nelson fills in at first until Mat Gamel is ready to play on a regular basis at first. They then move Hardy to third and play Alcides Escobar at SS and lead him off.

Fielder would draw the pitching they need to be competitive, especially in the light of a returning Yovani Gallardo and an improved Manny Parra.

The off-season losses of Sabathia & Sheets then gives them 5 of the top 35 picks, on the heels of having 6 of the top 70 picks. The minor leagues are then officially restocked.

I understand that there's also more payroll limitations, but that would just suggest to me to move some of the prospects for pitching, keep Fielder, and try to win in the window they have.

I'm all for building from within, but Fielder strikes me as one of those players that comes along once a decade for an organization, that you can build around.

Tonight was the most fun I've ever had at a baseball game in my life. Let's go Brewers!

Looked good on tv too!!!
I'll be in the club Sat & the loge Sunday!!!!
Sheets starting Saturday!
Probably CC Sunday if the WC still in doubt.
What a difference a week makes!
GO BREWERS!!!!!!!!

You should arrive just in time to get a table at Friday's then!!!!
Sat game is at 2:55 & Sunday is at 1:05 central!!!!
Sat game moved up for Fox broadcast.
Sheets going to go as long as he can, don't expect a complete game. All hands on deck!!!!!

I'd be shocked if Sheets goes more than three.

Brewers are going to have to patch this together today. But like everything has the last week, it depends on who Pinella puts out there. Does he go with his starters one more time?

I'd be stunned if Pinella plays them Sunday, so that should be an easy W.

I'll disagree with you on the point of Sheets. I don't think anybody other than Sheets knows how long he can go today. He has a huge history of coming back strong in his first start after an injury...but nobody knows about today.

After Soto got pulled last night, I'd be surprised if Lou doesn't start pulling back on the frontline starters.

Milwaukee's lineup is in for the game today:

CF Mike Cameron
3B Bill Hall
LF Ryan Braun
1B Prince Fielder
SS J.J. Hardy
RF Corey Hart
2B Rickie Weeks
C Jason Kendall
RHP Ben Sheets

They are facing Ted Lilly, hence the right-handed lineup.

Those guys shouldn't have been starting last night in the first place. I was laughing at Cubs fans on the board I go to who were raging at Soriano for not going hard after 3 flyballs where he would have had to dive twice and jump against the wall for the 3rd to catch them...why would they want him to do that at this point? He held back so he doesn't chance gettin hurt on meaningless plays in games that are meaningless for the Cubs. It's stupid to have given those guys anything more tha spot starts in the last week.

Bad game for the Brewers Saturday. I felt aweful watching & would have felt even worse if I hadn't sold my ticket on Stubhub for $200 Friday evening!!!!
I hope to God that the crew makes the playoffs! The asking prices on Stubhub for the playoff games are breathtaking!
Will for sure be in the loge Sunday.
Hope we can at least force a playoff for the playoffs Monday.

Now Sabathia must pitch on short rest again while the Cubs trot out Angel Guzman. Enjoy the feast, Brewers.

Wasn't it great how the Cub fans Sunday were totally out shouted & rendered non factors?
The "Go Marlins" chants during the last 2 innings of the Marlins/Mets on the big screen were fun too!

Had a good conversation going with the Chicago fan next to me. It was pretty bizarre , cheers erupting for a Packers score or a posting of a favorable score from NY. We agreed it was a very interesting experience being at MP on Sunday!
