I remember when every song sounded exactly generic like that one. I just want to know what happened to those 4 other nothings who rapped in that video. I guarantee 2 make an honest living minimum wage talkin when they ran with twopac havin coworkers say yeah whatever.

Sadly, I'll take that "generic-ness" (and more diss tracks, please) over 95% of the big hip-hop these days. The Outlawz were the epitome of a hangers-on crew in the 90's, but they could rap circles around so may of the big solo MC's out there ruling the charts now.

shit vs shit, winner, older shit.
Apart from the dissing, it's not worth talking about, as obvious as it seems that that unoriginal garbage was better than every one of today's southern bump rap clones, I clearly remember hating that as much then as I hate the big hip-hop these days. It's hard to be objective sometimes. I try but it's hard.

Oh, I'm not tossing up "Hit 'Em Up" as some bastion of classic hip-hop, trust me. It was a b-side diss track, and it sounds like one. Hell, I remember hating at least half of the stuff with that "Death Row" sound back then. I always preferred the Bomb Squad-style of production. I just think it's funny how, like you kinda said, the old shit sounds so much better when compared to the new shit.

bomb squad, there was production and then there was the bomb squad, nobody could emulate that sound. In terms of being generic, in rap when someone got a revolutionary hit, everyone just tweaked that formula and made it their own(west coast). Did anyone clone fight the power? no they ripped off das efx instead.

Dola's my brotha from anotha motha.
Speaking of Bomb Squad, it was that production that made me a fan of Tupac back when I was 15, and then I got annoyed as hell when he went out West and embraced the Death Row production. Not that it was all bad out West, but too much of it was just watered down attempts to sound like Dre, and it's almost ALWAYS laid back. I got into hip-hop when I was young because it just seemed so full of energy and pumped up. THIS is what got me into Tupac:

Bomb Squad at its best:
