10 years ago today, a little film was released by Miramax films.

A lot of people want to say that its just a great poker movie but I actually think its just a great movie, period, for a number of reasons. An impeccable poker film: it doesn't over glamorize it but it does show you the life of a 'rounder'.

The cast is fantastic. Ed Norton (maybe his career peaked with Worm), Matt Damon, Malkovich (over the top as KGB, sure, but I wouldn't want it any other way), Turturro.

And, I actually think it looks pretty great. John Dahl really set a tone as a director.

It so accurately portrays the game that it can be pointed to as one of the top 3 factors for pokers incredible rise in popularity. There isn't a guy I know who can quote at least some of it, if not every single line.

I will be watching it tonight for about the 500th time and it never gets old. If I'm flipping, there is no doubt I will stop what I'm doing and watch til the end.

I remember magazines at the time were touting Gretchen Mol as the next breakout star due to this movie.

How'd that work out?

when this came out, which was WAY before the poker craze, i was having game weekly at my parents house. but we NEVER played Hold'em. i went to the movies to see this, and came home and went on the internet and looked up how to play texas hold'em and the next week we started to play.

this is in my top 10 favorite movies of all time. Maybe it was the time in my life when i saw it, but i just think it is perfect

I love this movie -even more so because my brother worked on it (production staff).

I have a "Rounders" windbreaker he got as swag- and I love that simple/cheap thing.
(I should take a pic of it for this thread)

Hey, you go to law school. Does Steinbrenner have the right to just move the Yankees? I mean, can he just fuckin' move them?

I could never make it through this movie.

I found it to be phenomenally boring and incredibly over acted.

Does this movie give you a little bit of the Top Gun-esqe gay vibe like that famous QT speech? Every time I watch it I think of Gretchen Moll being the strait side and Poker being the gay side... in a battle for Mike McD...

He made some choices in the past - fell into the lifestyle - lost everything because of it - decided to make a "strait" out of himself - got the prototype girlfriend in a hot blonde law student - used his talent to become a part of the system - and the rest of the movie is him fighting off his old side... but in the end his need to be in the non-mainstream society wins over because it is who he REALLY is...

I don't care either way - I love the movie - I just wanted to see if anyone else felt the Top Gun vibe...

One of my favorite movies EVER. My only debate I have with my friends is.... Is it a sports movie? I have no idea
