Loin of pork? You can make a sweet and sour sauce to slow cook it in.

My chick is a crock pot diva....she makes the best chili (and i am by no means a chili connoisseur) and the most delectable pot roast in the crock pot.

Yes, that is actually the point of the crock pot. They don't draw a large amount of power, and at the same time cook (and hold) food at a temperature that would not allow bacterial growth. And they are great for year round use, since they don't heat up your kitchen like the oven does.

I love slow cooking pork and lamb, both stuck with tons of garlic. Fresh herbs are great too, but don't use too much because they can really take over the food. (Lamb + rosemary + garlic + potatoes = yum yumz) I like adding my veggies in about an hour it's done because they're still a little crunchy, not steamed to death.

bbq beef.

get a 2 pound top round roast and sear off all sides in a little bit of hot oil in a large metal pot. once seared on all sides place the roast in a crockpot in your favorite bbq sauce be it homemade or store bought. i always like to add some hot sauce for some extra kick. come back to the crockpot every hour or so and shred apart the pieces that are coming apart in juicy goodness.

get two packs of potato rolls and you are all set.

I usually make this on the stove, but it'll work in a crockpot of you pre-cook the rice and shrimp...add them at the end of cooking.

Crockpot Jambalya. Cook Time: 7 hours
Ingredients:

1 pound chicken breasts or tenders, boneless, cut in 1-inch cubes
2 andouille sausages cut into "coins"
1/2 cup chopped onion
1 green bell pepper, chopped
1 large can (28 ounces) crushed tomatoes
1 cup chicken broth
1/2 cup dry white wine
1 bay leaf
1 teaspoons dried oregano
2 teaspoons dried parsley
3 teaspoons Cajun seasoning
1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
a few squirts of tabasco
1 pound shrimp, cooked
2 cups raw rice, cooked

Combine chicken, sausage, peppers, and onions in the crock pot. Add tomatoes, chicken broth, wine, oregano, parsley, Cajun seasoning, bay leaf, and pepper; stir gently. Cover and cook on LOW for 6 to 8 hours. & before you leave for the stadium; add cooked shrimp and hot cooked rice.

Don't forget to bring a serving spoon, little paper bowls, forks, and the bottle of hot sauce with you!!!

How about a big ol' pot of sloppy joe meat? Wow, I kinda grossed myself out with that sentence. You know, in or out of context, it just doesn't sound good. Never mind.

Get a pork tenderloin from the market. Slice up a red onion and dump that with an entire bottle of BBQ sauce into the crockpot on low setting. Cover the tenderloin with the mixture and cook for about 8 hrs.

Congratulations - you now have pork that can be turned into pulled pork with just a fork. Get some good rolls and cole slaw and you're good to go.

so what are your crock pot recipes?
Whenever I find a good deal on some meat that I'd like to cook in the crockpot, I just Google whatever kind of meat it is and add "crock pot" or "slow cooker". I usually find a whole slew of good recipes.

One I use often for a nice slab of chuck roast...

Ingredients http://www.grouprecipes.com/images/bullet_arrow_up.gif

1 two to three lb. Beef chuck roast (use your crock pot to determine size)
1 medium onion quartered
1 small bag of peeled baby carrots
4 medium peeled potatoes (sliced in halves) lengthwise
salt and pepper
1 beef boullion cube
1 stalk celery cut in pieces
1 package of onion soup mix
1 can Coca Cola (I use Coke)
water

<!-- end ingredients slide -->
Directions http://www.grouprecipes.com/images/bullet_arrow_up.gif

Salt and pepper roast and braise it in a skillet until brownish all around.
Place roast in crock pot when browned.
Place the remaining vegetables in crock pot.
Put in package of onion soup mix in and pour can of Coke on top.
Put in enough water to cover everything.
Put in bullion cube and cook.
Cook in crockpot on high for at least 4 hours or lower your temperature and cook all day. It is awesome, easy and it's a complete meal. The Coke tenderizes the meat and it will fall apart!!!

Last year, for St. Patrick's Day, I made corned beef and potatoes in the Crock Pot.

Yummy-yummy!

(I did the cabbage on the stovetop because overcooked cabbage is NASTY.)

I also made a modified beef stew with a packet of pot-roast seasoning, stew meat, potatoes, celery, onions and carrots ... basically, the celery, onions and carrots added extra flavor, but needed to be tossed in the trash. This is fine by me, but if you want to have non-mushy veggies in your stew, chop your carrots & celery to add during the last half-hour of cooking.

Also, you can parboil noodles (or make them separately ... I like to serve noodles as a side, rather than in stew) and toss 'em in for the last few minutes. (But that involves a lot more work than most of us are willing to put into our Crock Pots.)

Pot roast works well in the Crock Pot.
Chili works well in the Crock Pot.

You can modify almost any recipe to go in the Crock Pot ... usually it means reducing the amount of liquid and adding alcohol sparingly (replace most of it with broth and add a couple of tablespoons for flavor) because there's no/very little evaporation, so the alcohol won't cook out like it would on the stovetop.

Robin Miller on Food Network (Quick-Fix Meals with Robin Miller) has a lot of Crock Pot recipes and there's also the "Fix It and Forget It" cookbook series ... they have a ton of great recipes and tips.

How big is your Crock Pot? (It must be bigger than mine.)

I don't think 4lbs of cheese is a good idea, even with that much beef. Maybe do ... 4-6 cups.

I was going to post my recipe for pulled pork...though the one previously posted isn't so different from mine to worry about it.

But I did want to extend my love for the crockpot. It is a phenomenal addition to my kitchen. I love it. Using it tomorrow to make beef stew. Yum!

This is not for a party per say but my favorite crock pot dinner is an english roast with a can of mixed veggies, slices of onion, pepper, potatos, a pinch of garlic then mix with cream of mushroom soup.

1 packet of au jus mix
1-2 tablespoons of italian seasoning
mix all dry ingredients above with 1 cup of water and dump on meat

for football you were right to think of chili. and it's super-easy:

ground beef (browned)
cubed beef (browned)
salt/pepper
onions
garlic
stewed tomatoes
chili powder
cumin
red pepper (or maybe do fresh jalepenos plus chipotle in adobo)
no beans (murderers of chili)

no beans (murderers of chili)
I enjoy a chili with beans ... is this because of the resultant flatulence, preference in taste or do you believe beans to be cold hearted?

Crock Pot Beef Stew

1 packet onion soup mix
1 can cream of mushroom or cream of celery soup
salt & pepper (to taste)
cubed red potatoes
chopped celery
chunked carrots
cubed parsnips
cubed rutabaga
1-2 lbs stew beef

You can pre-brown the stew beef if you like - it'll add more flavor - but I don't usually pre-brown it.

Toss the stew beef with the packet of onion soup mix, salt and pepper in a bowl; set aside.
Add about half the total veggies to the bottom of the slow cooker, add the beef, then cover with remaining veggies, the can of soup and 1/2 can of water.

Cook on low 8 hours; serve with good bread and egg noodles.
