Hieous, HIDEOUS game by the Bears, but hey, I'll take it. Bears/Packers games are always a helluva thing.
You are right your opinion on that call was...How can you say that you are smarter than that
Seriously? That was an absurd call that had nothing to do with the intent of the rule.
Whatever, another loss. They've now lost 7 games by a combined 21 points. Please Ted Thompson...upgrade the offensive line and the defense this off-season.

I wont post em epo, but loook at Aaron Rodgers stats either down or up 7 points in the 4th Quarter (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/splits?playerId=8439), also his 4th Quarter Stats
6 TDs 5 Ints and a 80.5 QB rating is not acceptable

Shut up, I watch the games...you keep listening to Tony Kornheiser on Monday Night Football.
Here are the last three weeks:
Chicago - Leads drive, coach decides to run ball, kick field FG, kicker misses.
Jax - Directed team to FG for lead, Defense gives up TD to lose.
Houston - Directed to TD for tie, Defense gives up FG on last play.
Its been this way all season. Blaming Rodgers and not their defense/special teams is simply ignorant.

it certainly looks that way
and its about the same time flight wise as going to the west coast for east coast teams and vice versa
problem would be west coast teams having to go there or them going to west coast but they could always plan bye weeks around that

The other problem I see is that Sunday or Monday night games become impossible there. I mean, the 8:30 PM EST start of those games is 1:30 AM GMT.
You could probably do the late afternoon game, since that would be approximately 9:15 PM GMT, about the same start as Monday night games used to be.

cause 1pm their time would be 7am east coast time theres no way the nfl or the players union would let that fly

Best Question Ever Asked On ESPN :
What would the score be if the 2007 Patriots played the 2008 Lions?
I'm thinking Patriots up 28-0 within the first 7 minutes, then switching to a couple running plays after that. And then mid-way through the 4th quarter, finally taking out the starters, where Matt Cassell would throw a TD. Final score 80 - 10.

Youth is Served: Morris Named New D-Coordinator
Dec 25, 2008 - The Tampa Bay Buccaneers didn't have to cast their net very wide to find the perfect replacement for departing Defensive Coordinator Monte kiffin.
In fact, the man for the job was just one door down from Kiffin's corner office at One Buccaneer Place.
On Thursday, the Buccaneers announced that Raheem Morris will be the new defensive coordinator, beginning with the 2009 season. At the conclusion of the 2008 campaign, Kiffin will be ending his 13-year run in that post in order to join the staff of his son, Lane Kiffin, the new head coach at the University of Tennessee.
Morris has spent the past two seasons as the Buccaneers' defensive backs coach, marking his second stint on Tampa Bay's staff. He first joined the team in 2002, starting out as a defensive quality control coach before ascending rapidly up the ranks. He was named a defensive assistant in 2003 and then assistant defensive backs coach in 2004-05, as he worked closely with current Pittsburgh Head Coach Mike Tomlin, who was then in charge of the Bucs' secondary.
Morris jumped to the college ranks in 2006, serving as the defensive coordinator at Kansas State for one year before the Bucs convinced him to return to Tampa. That move was a coup — the Bucs improved from 19th in the NFL in pass defense in 2006 to first in 2007 — and it has proved even more significant now that Kiffin has chosen to take on a new challenge. It's not merely a matter of preserving the "Tampa Two" with an in-house selection; rather Morris is seen as the right choice to build on the team's existing strengths.
"We've evolved," said Head Coach Jon Gruden, who made the announcement to the team on Thursday afternoon. "Raheem’s been with me a long time and I’ve got a lot of respect for him. He’s taken steps every year. He’s had a hand in a lot of the success that we’ve had here. Obviously he’s got some big shoes to fill, but I think he’s capable. I just think it’s fair to the players that they know that we’re committed to this defense, the style of defense. Nothing’s going to stay the same. It never does, no matter who’s the coordinator on a yearly basis. I just feel like it’s the right thing to do. I’m excited about it and I believe he’ll get it done.”
Just 32 years old, Morris becomes one of the NFL's youngest coordinators and potentially a cornerstone for the Buccaneers for years to come. Young but experienced, with a deep well of football knowledge to match his boundless enthusiasm, Morris is an exciting choice to lead what has become one of the NFL's signature units. He inherits a defense that has ranked in the top 10 in the NFL 10 times over the past 12 years and could make it an 11th in 2008 if it maintains its current rank of 9th through Sunday's game against Oakland.
Morris also inherits a crew that features several regulars who are older than he is, including Derrick Brooks, Ronde Barber and Kevin Carter. That hasn't hindered him in any of his previous posts, however; he has garnered the players' respect with his infectious enthusiasm and his strict attention to detail.
“I’m a big energy believer," said Gruden. "I like guys with 'juice.' I think you have to be a leader. I think you have to be able to motivate and stimulate these guys, relate to them — veterans, young players. He knows the kind of players we’re looking for. He knows the routine here in terms of what it takes to play in this system. I’ve been impressed with him throughout the six, seven years I’ve been with him. He’s had a year coordinating in the Big 12, and I think it’s the right thing to do. I think our players will respond to him.”
Despite its veteran center and another potential top-10 ranking in 2008, the Buccaneers' defense is also in transition. Such budding stars as Tanard Jackson, Barrett Ruud, Aqib Talib and Gaines Adams are still learning on the job. Morris will have the opportunity to forge a new core for Tampa Bay's proud defense in the coming years.
Prior to his arrival in Tampa in 2002, Morris served a Minority Coaches Fellowship Internship with the New York Jets in 2001. He began his coaching career at Hofstra, his alma mater, in 1998, moving up from graduate assistant to defensive backs coach in 2000-01. He played four seasons at Hofstra as a safety.
I cannot describe how hideous this Detroit Lions team is.

Matt Cassel will no longer be a free agent (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3796019)
Brady, who underwent surgery on Oct. 6 after tearing the ACL and MCL ligaments in his left knee in the first quarter of the season's first game, had subsequent operations on the knee after it became infected.
That infection resulted in a buildup of scar tissue, which may require surgery on the knee, the Web site reported, citing an anonymous NFL source.
The scar tissue has also affected Brady's ability to fully begin rehabilitating his leg, the report said, and the repaired ligaments remain loose.
Another surgery could also be needed for that condition, the Web site reported.

Yea some do, sometimes they walk. You can usually walk with not much problem unless you have completely decimated your ACL. Its the running that fucks you up
and seriously, how is brady goin to a surgeon who cant handle his shit
A little fun at the end of the half in the Green Bay/Detroit game.
The Packers fair caught a punt with :00 on the clock and by rule an offensive team can then try a free kick for a field goal. From 69 yards out, into the wind Mason Crosby put one just short. It probably would have been just good from 65.
Either way...something for the NFL Films "Detroit Lions 2008 Season" recap video.
In 8 more minutes unless things change, the 2008 Detroit Lions are going to the Hall of Fame.

I live in Pittsburgh. Even if I hadn't watched the game, Steeler news utterly dominates all forms of media within a 100 mile radius and is truly unavoidable.
That being said, Ben is all about drama. He probably would have preferred being carted off after any number of injuries. He'll be fine, we'll be fine, and most importantly our defense will still maul anyone.
Tennessee may be considered the "best" in the AFC by some, but no way would I put my money on Kerry Collins and his defeated liver. I'm not even saying we're the favorite, but I like our chances should we face the Titans again.

Would they make that kinda deal for one of this years QBs ( Bradford ?? ) ?

Because no one trades for #1 picks anymore, especially with no franchise saving QB there. The Jets would be better off using their mid round pick on someone more of a sure thing than a top of the draft "qb", then drafting a competent QB in the mid to late rounds.
Or are you thinking they'll be able to get Cassel ?
I really can't imagine Cassel is going anywhere. Patriots will franchise him and then trade him if Brady comes back healthy. To the 49ers.

You're conceding that this draft would mirror any draft where the 1st round QBs are a bust.
Mid to late round QBs fail just as often as 1st rounders if not more.
That's if they ever actually play.
And what is " competent " ?
You think the Jets fire their coach and then expect to just be competive ?
I'm not sure a simply " competent " QB is the one you want.

But you pay much less for a mid to late round QB. There's no franchise changing QB sitting at the beginning of this draft.
And by competent, I mean you don't always need Peyton Manning or Drew Brees to win a Super Bowl. If you have a competent QB with a great rest of team, you'll do just fine.

The official spoke on condition of anonymity because the NFL has not announced the move. It's not a new notion to have the game moved up to take place between the conference championship games and the Super Bowl. Yeah I heard somebody mention that this was a possibility few weeks ago.
Doesn't seem to make sense.
To your point it'll automatically exclude any players from the 2 Super Bowl teams and possibly some from the conference title game losing teams as they may wanna rest.

I had a discussion with a buddy of mine and he said I was crazy, but I think I'm dead on. I said that if I was a head coach, I'd much rather take the Detroit job than the Jets. Think about it; Bill Ford is nothing if not ridiculously patient. Hell, he kept Millen as his GM for a half century and Marinelli as his head coach for decades. You know you're not getting a quick ax. Plus, there will be far less pressure and you literally have nowhere to go but up.
With the Jets there's the constant comparison to the Giants and the pressure to win NOW. You're also inheriting a team with a 40 year old QB who has one year left in him.

I personally don't get the Matt Ryan hype. Sure, he's an ok QB, but he's not the fucking savior. He's had 16 TD with 11 Ints and a measly 87.7 QB rating. Hardly spectacular by any means. Michael Turner is the reason the Falcons were so damn good this year, not Matt Ryan.
If anything Matt Forte, Chris Johnson, or Steve Slaton should have been the rookie of the year.

Broncos owner Pat Bowlen stunned people across the NFL Tuesday by letting Mike Shanahan go.
And count a surprised, angered quarterback in Jay Cutler among them.
“I’m disappointed, I’m shocked, I’m not happy about it, I’m not pleased with it at all,” Cutler said by phone Tuesday. “We had zero inkling this was going to happen. I didn’t have a clue.”

What people want Ryan and Turner to get credit for, turning around last year's team and making people forget Michael Vick, is what Manning did w/ his own team this season.

Pennington and Turner came in second with 4 votes each. Manning had 32. Now lets get fucking serious. Nobody can legitimately say he deserved MVP by that kind of margin. You would think this was the season he broke Marinos record.
Now I can understand how he beat out Pennington because he had better stats and Brees and Cassel because their teams didnt make the playoffs, but if thats the case, I still cant understand how he beats out Turner.
And if you want to go the "you cant compare RB to QB stats" route remember this...
Kurt Warners team is in the playoffs. He finished the season with 500 more yards, 3 more TD's and 1.9 higher a passer rating then Manning. So how the fuck does he not get MVP instead????

Kurt Warner didnt play in the AFC south. You me and hippo have a decent shot of winning the west.

Manning's team went from playing like shit to playing the way they should have been playing. So he basically won the MVP for playing like shit in the first 7 games.
Thats also when his knee was back to normal. I think had he ever missed a game prior to this season he wouldnt have played the first week or two.

They voted the way they voted and the results are what they are.
Yea and what they are is WRONG.
Im not discussing how they voted. Im saying they gave MVP to the wrong guy. I dont even think Warner should have gotten it, what Im saying is Im trying to figure out how they are justifying giving it to Manning and I cant. Even if I went with "Give it to a QB, who has the stats, and his teams in the playoffs" then Warner should have it.
In my opinion Michael Turner is the MVP this year. He went from backup to starter and took a team from doormat to playoff contender while rushing for 1800 yards.
No matter how I try to cut it I cant understand any justifiable way to give it to Manning except that the media and NFL loves to suck his dick. Madden probably came in his pants when he heard the news.

Oh no. Madden made it pretty clear the last few years that Manning is next in line to get his cock gargled every week once Favre officially retires. Right now they pretty much have to share.

Yeah but Warner played in a shitty division.
It does seem plausible that he shouldv'e gotten at least 1 vote due to his stats though.

The thing is MVP is supposed to be considered for what they did the entire season, and its so rarely judged like that. The voters only seem to care with the 2nd half of the season, and thats just not how it should be. If they considered the whole year Manning wouldnt have won, because his first half blew.
I wouldve given it to any of these guys before him: Warner, Turner, Peterson, Pennington, Polamalu, Ed Reed.

So LT isn't hurt?
Yah he is, just look at that fact he's never in on a cutback run....only attack an a/b or c gap.
I know all the road teams were favored, but I can't say it'd honestly surprise me if all the home teams won this week.
I got a feeling, a couple days ago, that the Cardinals might actually show up this week.
Mostly everyone was expecting this Chargers/Colts game to be close.
I could see the Eagles going down tomorrow.
Dolphins/Ravens has probably been the surest bet for a road team win, this week. I can't see them scoring on Baltimore.

HUGE STOP!!!
Last time versus Indy (I was in SD and at the game in week #12) the Colts had these stats:
10/17 on 3rd down
2/2 on 4th down
So in essence, the Colts were 12 for 17 on drive sustaining plays!
I've been talking to the hosts of WFAN all week stating the move from Cotrell to Rivera is HUGE. Rivera won't sit back in zones with Manning making audibles at the line in huge 3rd/4th down situations. The difference will be with 3rd/4th down conversion, and the Chargers are already looking better.

Yah, it's strange too bc he's not your normal Farve or Manning type.
Funny thing is, the guy really can't be an everyday back like they claim he can be. He's a classic Warrick Dunn type, only smaller but quicker. 3rd down back plus and special teams.
