great game, looked like it was going to be a blowout but ended up being a nailbiter.

tough loss for the patriots to take im sure, win the coin toss and they might have been the ones to win on a field goal. oh well. too many mistakes in the first half.

and way too many blown third down coverages.

Its tough to be a Jet fan.. I hate to be a downer after suchan important win but its the same crap year in year out. Mangina was thoroughly outcoached tonight. This team has too much talent to be run by that yutz. Id make Mike Westhoff the coach, that dude is creative and knows both sides of the ball.. Good win, tough to watch...

There have been some really awful games today. That Cincy-Philly game is one of those games that makes you wonder why you bother watching football in the first place, so awful that you think you're probably done with the sport. And the Jacksonville-Tennessee game on now is a snoozer so far.

The referee said that they realized after the game that the TD should have counted, but the score will not be changed.

There is no doubt in my mind this game was fixed. Even if you look at some of the other calls in that game...

I just saw on ESPN where they showed Donovan McNabb's post-game interview where he actually admitted that he was not aware that games could end in a tie and that he was looking forward to scoring on their next possession in the second overtime. You could tell that the press interviewing him were shocked and almost thought he was kidding.

Then he acted like it was some kind of NFL conspiracy like they were keeping this rule a secret or something. He said something like "Well, apparently that's the rule and we'll just have to live with it."

How can a professional football player not know such a basic rule and then not even realize how stupid it would be to admit that you do not know it? ESPN showed that the last tie was only in 2002. Also, every league standing I've seen since I could read has had three columns: W-L-T. What did he think the "T" stood for. I hate the Eagles and McNabb but this is too shocking for words and I feel sorry for him like I would any down syndromed kid who doesn't even realize that he's "different"

I've seen a couple of playoff games that did go into the 2nd overtime.

I knew that this game was going to start this bullshit, people going apeshit crazy trying to prevent the next tie. There hasn't been a tie for 6 seasons, and the last time before that was like 3 or 4 years previous to that. It's a non-issue.

The way that the Eagles and Bengals were playing, I doubt they would have scored in a second overtime. Or, hell, in a third or fourth. Given the violent nature of football, with the risk of serious injury on every play, you have to end it at some point, unless it's a playoff game. And, believe me, we'd all had enough of that shit yesterday.

And if you suggest to me to adopt college football's asinine OT system, I might bite your face. :furious:

LEAGUE HAS PLAN FOR JETS, GIANTS HOME TITLE GAMES
Posted by Mike Florio on November 26, 2008, 9:07 a.m.

Per ESPN’s SportsCenter, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell told WFAN radio on Tuesday that, if the Jets and the Giants both host the championship games for their respective conferences, one game would be played on Sunday night, and the other game would be played on Monday night.

It makes senses; there’s no way that both games could be played on the same day. And with two weeks until the Super Bowl, there’s no real advantage or disadvantage to playing on Sunday or on Monday.

What also makes sense, frankly, is adopting this format regardless of whether both games will be played in the same venue. The league gradually has been nudging postseason games toward prime time; why not transform the AFC and NFC title games into a two-night extravaganza?

Our guess is that the league might be willing to put this possibility on the table when the time comes to renegotiate the broadcasting contracts. Since the networks will be able to make more money via ad sales, they’d theoretically be willing to fork over more cash for the broader package.

There was a chance for the Colts to fair catch and kick a free kick at the end of the 1st half today (they didn't fair catch, though). Dick Enberg was very upset, because he wanted to see it happen.

Dick : "That's too bad. It's been so long since we've seen one. I was really hoping it happened."

Remember how much he got ripped for going with Mario Williams over Reggie Bush? Or, even worse, for not going with Vince Young? What he got the Texans was a guy who's probably going to be one of the premier defensive players in the league for years, over a guy who's shown massive troubles adjusting to the pro game in Bush (who seems to think he can still dance around linebackers like in college), and a total nutjob douche in Vince Young.

i agree......its called patience and looking at the long term. unfortunately for the media, they cant write about long term plans and make interesting stories. so, at the time the bigger name was Bush and his "slight" was the better story then the possibility of Williams being the better player.

i disagree that the Texans are showing signs of life. theyre still pretty piss poor. before the head anywhere near the upper echilon on the NFL they need a QB.

Well, signs of life in that you can kind of see how they can improve now, versus looking like a complete disaster of a franchise like the Bengals or Cardinals. NO FINE FOR CLARK
Posted by Mike Florio on December 3, 2008, 10:28 a.m.
Usually, a player makes a big hit in a game, draws no flag, and then later in the week receives a FedEx from the league office advising him of his involuntary contribution to one or more charities of the NFL’s choosing.

For Steelers safety Ryan Clark, his “how many fingers? . . . Tuesday” shot on Pats receiver Wes Welker triggered a penalty. But there will be no fine.

Per the Boston Herald, NFL V.P. of officiating Mike Pereira says that Clark won’t have to pay for popping Welker.

“A lot of people think it’s a foul to leave your feet,” Pereira said. “Launching is not a foul. There is nothing in the rulebook that states that at all. It’s a misconception people have.

“It is a foul to hit with your helmet against a defenseless receiver. It is a foul to throw a forearm into the neck or head area of your opponent. I don’t think either of those things happened. I’m not a fan of those high hits but if you do it with your shoulder you’re OK.”

theres no doubt

only debate is whether or not its a relocated team or a new franchise

Here is why the Raiders suck boiled down to a specific example: the Chargers take over on their own 4. After a couple of penalties, they're pinned down inside their own 1. They're in trouble.

And then the Raiders commit a stupid penalty, giving the Chargers a 1st down and the ball goes out to the 17 yard line. And the Chargers can move. As I write this, they're on the Raiders' 10, and it looks like a score is virtually guaranteed.

In fact, there's the touchdown.

I doubt they'll want to expand and go back to an odd number of teams, and I don't think there's any other market that could support a team, especially right now, so I'm guessing relocation.

Very possible, though I think Katrina delayed that process at least a few years. But, yeah, if Katrina hadn't happened, I think moving the team could be well underway.

The most logical team to move back there, really, is probably the Raiders, since they've been there before, but the NFL wouldn't give Al Davis that prize after he's sued them for billions multiple times. I can see the Chargers maybe moving up the coast too.

They're playing some tough ball right now. They're 5-8 and they have @Miami, @St Louis, and Washington as their final three games.

The Miami game will be tough on the road, but it's not out of the realm of possibility that they could win at least two of those three games.

The Bills are like the Redskins every year and it pisses me off because I feel like I'm the only one that can see through both teams. Every single pre-season prognosticators come out and say things like, "Watch out for the Bills this year, they're young and explosive" or "The redskins really looked polished this season and should make some serious noise in the NFC." Yet every year when the dust has settled they both blow. I demand that analysits stop giving either team any sort of credit until either team advances to their conference championship. Until then I dont wanna hear shit about how "good" the Bills or Redskins are.

The end of regulation in this Bears/Saints game had a combination of some of the stupidest football I've ever seen. 7 seconds to go, Bears down by a FG, and they have the ball on the Saints' 10. It's a chip shot. Send it to OT, right? No, Lovey Smith actually calls a play, and Orton's in trouble, scrambling. The clock is winding down.

So what do the Saints do? Rather than let him run around and run out the clock, which he would have had to do because he was in the middle of the field, some idiot on the Saints sacks him, which allows the Bears to call their last TO, stop the clock, and kick the tying FG.

And now the Bears are about to win after a truly idiotic interference penalty from another Saints player. Just dumb, dumb football playing tonight.

He passed on a 49 yard field goal attempt to go for it on 4th and 3. Collins threw an incomplete pass. The Texans were then able to run the clock out for the win.

If they beat Pittsburgh next week, they'll lock up home field. You probably won't see them trying 4th and 3 instead of a FG next week.

So some scumbag piece of shit reporter asked me, "Mr. Davis, was it embarassing to see Randy Moss performing so well against you last week?" And my response was the same I give all these fucks: "Are you the nurse? Hurry up and change me, my diaper's full and I got shit leaking all down my fucking legs."

I don't give a fuck about Randy Moss. Who the fuck is Randy Moss anyway? No, I mean it, who is he? Did he play here?

Whoever the fuck he was, I've been watching this thing with Tarnell Owen, or whatever the fuck his name is -- those people's names all sound alike to me, all "De"something and "Shaniquaqua" and some bullshit random arrangement of vowels -- and I gotta say, this motherfucker's a Raider. He's gotta be. He doesn't give a fuck about the team, he's crazy as hell, he's old, and he's not very good. Commitment to excellence right there, motherfuckers. That's the Raiders' way.

Maybe I'll see Jones next time I'm in the hospital getting my blood replaced. He'll be there getting followup surgery to keep his facelift up. I'm serious, that fucker has to go in every 2 weeks for surgery or that goddam face of his will just melt. I'll ask about that Zaxxon Jones or whatever the fuck that crazy motherfucker's name is. That fucker kills people. I like that in a player.

I'm serious, my diaper really does need to be changed. Can you get someone in here?
