err....
It is hoped the new film will reunite the original cast.
You might not want to get too excited yet.

Didn't Murray only do GB2 so he could get financing for the Hunter Thompson movie?
Other stuff I've heard about this movie is they will have a new cast of busters made up of Seth Rogen, Jonah hill and other Apatow regulars.

Sheepy asked Rogen about that during the Unmasked. Rogen said it wasn't true.

Ghostbusters 2 came out a good 8 years or so after Where the Buffalo Roam. Was he involved with another one?

I think he did a lucrative studio movie so he could do "The Razor's Edge". It may have actually been the original Ghostbusters that he did as a trade-off, given the timeline, but I don't recall.
edit: yes. Ghostbusters was made to get Razor's Edge made. (http://www.theoldcorner.org.uk/sf_bay.htm)
There was just one problem: they had to find someone to let them make the thing. "I'll tell you who got this movie made," Byrum says. "It was Dan Aykroyd. Dan pointed out that we could give Ghostbusters to Columbia in exchange for a green light on The Razor's Edge — Bill was convinced. Forty-five minutes later we had a caterer."

Ok, I knew it was something. I might have also been thinking of Mighty Ducks 3 so disney would give Emilio money for the first movie he directed.
I'd really prefer not to see GB3, Ernie Hudson is the only original guy that hasn't been completely ravaged by time. Let us learn a lesson from Indiana Jones 4

I thought this video game coming out with all of them lending their voices and Akroyd and Ramis writing it was the "new Ghostbusters project."
I think people are confused. Unless Egon and Ray will fight ghosts by being incredibly fat, this movie is instant fail.

You are right about the first part. But then there was Sony seeing how much hype the game was getting, then the rumors of the "hand-off" movie having the original team give the business to younger people (seth rogen and others), and then they found out they may have another reboot money maker. All about money.
It's a shame, cuz for some reason the new Ghostbusters game has been put on "no publisher hold" for some reason. I bet the possibilty of making a true sequel a movie put the breaks on it.

its funny but kids today probably have no idea who the original cast are... akroyd/moranis/etc.
not that it would have any affect on the movie i'm sure, just funny how they all disappeared.

I dunno. I kinda thought Ghostbusters 2 sucked a fat gooey cock. I wouldn't be excited to see a new GB movie. Though I guess it would be interesting if they actually went along and made a new one together.

Ernie Hudson rocks. Here is an interesting article about how his roles in the movies were scrolled back: http://kotaku.com/5023692/ernie-hudsons-role-reduced-in-original-ghostbusters
He also accepts the fact he'll always be remembered as the fourth Ghostbuster, although he had a much bigger part in the original script. "I was the guy who got slimed in the hotel, but I guess the studio felt they wanted more stuff for Bill Murray," Hudson reveals. "I was the guy who thought of the marshmallow man on the rooftop, but then it became Danny [Aykroyd]'s character." It was only after he won the part of Winston that the decision was made to reduce the character's role. "And they didn't do that till the day before we started shooting, so I didn't have time to adjust," Hudson says. "Yeah, when the part was cut there was some frustrating stuff associated with that. But it was what it was, and it is what it is. 24 years later, people still like the movie, and I'm glad."

I've been waiting for the game ever since I read about it earlier this year. It looks so good! I don't think there will be another sequel, not with any of the original cast anyway. Dan and Harold have already said in the game informer article about the game that they don't want to do another movie, so to spare everyone their losing battle with aging. Dan likes the idea of the game because he gets to be skinny again. Of course, money talks...

I've been hearing rumors of Ghostbusters 3 since 1996... Who knows if it'll ever actually happen, and if it does, it could totally suck. But I'd love to see at least an attempt.
PS - Where The Buffalo Roam was a fucking horrendous movie.

yes, columbia is developing a script for GB3 with my year one writing partners, gene stupnitsky and lee eisenberg. judd apatow is co-producing year one and has made several other films for sony, so of course the studio is hoping to tap into some of the same acting talent. aykroyd, ivan reitman and i are consulting at this point, and according to dan, bill murray is willing to be involved on some level. he did record his dialogue for the new ghostbusters video game, as did danny and i, and ernie hudson. the concept is that the old ghostbusters would appear in the film in some mentor capacity. not much else to say at this point. everyone is confident a decent script can be written and i guess we’ll take it from there.

I read elsewhere that Rick Moranis isn't interested in appearing. Maybe they will toss him some extra cash and Louis can make a triumphant returns as Ghostbuster #5.

Aykroyd Confirms Ghostbusters 3 Is All Go
20 May 2009 5:15 AM, PDT
Dan Aykroyd has confirmed the third Ghostbusters movie is all set to go before the cameras - with the original cast in place to reprise the characters from the 1984 film.
The movie star reveals Sigourney Weaver has signed on for the project, alongside himself, Bill Murray, Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson - and the film could start shooting this winter.
Aykroyd still fears the project could "blow up" "at any second" but he hopes the new film will herald in a new generation of all-girl Ghostbusters.
He tells the Los Angeles Times newspaper, "I'd like it to be a passing-of-the-torch movie. Let's revisit the old characters briefly and happily and have them there as family but let's pass it on to a new generation."
And the actor wants Alyssa Milano and Eliza Dushku to consider becoming part of the Ghostbusters family: "I think they're amazing."
A mod might want to rename this thread Ghostbusters 3.
