i thought i would open a thread to see how many of us RonFez'ers are going to college right now. so, are you in college right now, and where do you go?

i go to Fordham University, and it's great! who else?

and for that matter, anything about college, ask away! feeling nervous about being away from home, great drinking games, and how to schedule classes....

Wampus, I always wanted to go to Fordham but it's kinda far for me. What are you going for? You may have mentioned it in a thread a while back but I forgot. Remember me? :bye: I gave you a long-ass reply to one of your threads

I just graduated from St. Josephs College with a B.S.W. and over 500 hours of supervised field work, because of this, I was recently accepted into Adelphi's Advanced Standing M.S.W. Program where I'll be starting in January, 2009. I will still need to work full-time to keep my health benefits since I'll be 25 in December, plus the fact my current job will be paying for my school, assuming I maintain at least a 3.0. This program will allow me to go to classes part-time and still earn my Masters by May, 2010; that's including Summer classes.. meh and more field instruction.. meh. Between work, school and studying to become Licensed I don't know how I'll schedule my time but at this point I'm determined to finish; it's taken me a long time to get here and I'm not ashamed to say I'm proud of myself. If all goes according to plan, I should earn my LMSW by May 2010 wherein I'll be lucky if my starting salary will be slightly higher then what I'm making now, which isn't much. Regardless, I'm still excited!!!

6 classes?!?! Even if I wasn't working, I doubt I could handle that course load. I don't care what the experts say, I have limited brain capacity and having to process that much new information at once would make me forget the most basic tasks. More power to you!

I usually dream that I can't find my class schedule and I have no idea where I'm going (quite symbolic). I also dream that I never got the last semester's grades. OR I dream I have to go through college all over again.

I *used* to have the dream where I'd find out I actually had a fifth class that I never went to all semester. And it was always a history class where I'd have to read a ton of books and try to find someone with all the notes.

New Brunswick's really not that bad if you don't behave as if the city streets are an extension of your dormitory.

Just lock your doors (ALL OF THEM) and don't cross New Street after dark and you're golden.

Unless, of course, by "Rutgers" you meant Rutgers-Newark or Rutgers-Camden. In those cases, your best investment is going to be police-grade pepper spray and kevlar riot gear.

OK. With all the changes to undergraduate education and the standardization of admission and graduation requirements, you should be fine. You're a smart cookie.

I understand that you'll be commuting; I never thought you'd dorm ... why add another $5000+ per semester for a dorm when you live close enough to commute? (Also, you've been commuting and taking classes for however long you spent on your Associates' ... you've already got the work/school/home balance thing worked out!)

However, past reports in the Targum's "Police Blotter" have indicated that quite a few commuters in past years have treated the RU parking lots & Deck as if it's an extension of a dormitory (or their parents' driveway) ... and have had their cars broken into because they were dopey enough to leave their doors unlocked or electronics on the front seat in full view.

There are a bunch of cool joint-degree programs at RU. Like the 6-year Pharm-D program (Doctor of Pharmacy) that became the standard for the School of Pharmacy a few years ago and the BA/MD dual degree program that a friend of mine from the Voorhees Choir did...she's now an OB/GYN.

In addition to the dual degree programs, there are wonderful research opportunities, especially if you do well and become eligible for the Honors programs.

(Can you tell I had a great RU experience??)

And I know you've got more common sense than all of the dopes whose cars/off-campus apartments/dorm rooms were broken into ... a healthy dose of common sense goes a LONG way. Besides, when you're paying for your own stuff, you tend to be a lot more careful about what happens to it.

I also attended an obscure private school in the middle of nowhere, St. Bonaventure in Olean, NY

I actually applied there and got accepted. I decided to go with da boogie-down Bronx though.

That tells me a lot about you to consider two disparate schools like that. Hope you had a good time because I sure did. The small town vibe worked for me. Now I live in DC, with the worst traffic known to man, so go figure

I'm a RU student again. I'm taking a math course this fall. Real college life ended 13 years ago though.

One of the most pathetic things Fordham ever did was try to "sell" trailers in a parking lot as a "dorm."

Apparently there were more students who wanted to live on campus in 1985 than the campus could handle.

Hence, "The Villages."

I don't remember the exact details from the literature, but I do remember they were cheaper than the rest of the dorms and were described as "four wings."

So, yeah, there were four trailers in the parking lot (next to what used to be called Sesquitennial Hall (also built in a parking lot, but out of brick and mortar; I think it's called Tierney Hall now). Really close to Faculty Memorial Hall.

I remember The Villages had to be evacuated during Hurricane Gloria.

Good times.

well, there arent any trailers for kids to live in anymore . . . what they did do is tell all transfer students that they werent able to receive housing. :furious:

The buses actually don't suck. They're scary, but they don't suck.

The traffic you're experiencing is the residual delay from the Route 18 Expansion Project. Blame the NJDOT. Besides, I thought that the online registration system wouldn't allow you to register for back-to-back classes on different campuses. (We were strongly advised not to do that, but nothing stopped us. It was far easier to register for back-to-back classes on College Ave and Douglass or College Ave and Busch or even Busch and Livingston than it was for Douglass and any Piscataway campus. I ended up walking from class on Douglass to class on College Ave on multiple occasions ... and there used to be a way to walk from Busch to Livingston, but with the Rte 18 Extension, I don't know if that's possible anymore.)

As for Parking ... the new Stadium has to go somewhere, right?

Keeping a car on campus if you're not a commuter or in an apartment is a complete waste of time.

Street parking in New Brunswick proper blows; it's part of the reason why I keep such a weird work schedule for an office job. Living there for several years as an adult with a car was ... enlightening.
