....not to be confused with Richard Lewis....
How much money has he raised over the years?
How long can he keep going?
He's beginning to look like shit.
Hey Laaadeee.....let's raise a glass to the man.

Anybody mentioned in a Frank Zappa/Mothers of Invention song is officially immortal in my book (Jerry Lewis is mentioned in Billy the Mountain on Just Another Band from L.A.)

You've got to be kidding, he is still doing his telethon? Speaking of Jerry Lewis, has anyone seen his movie, the Day the Clown Cried. I know it is difficult to get a viewing but I imagine there is someone out there who has seen it. I know that Harry Shearer saw Jerry Lewis's copy of the movie. Rumor has it the Swedish production company has a few copies so it is possible to see it if you are well-connected in Stockholm.
Back to the telethon...is that thing televised anywhere? any radio coverage? Does anyone outside the couple of blocks around the Las Vegas shoot location know this horrible Labor Day tradition continues? god, that depresses me that he is still doing that. odd bird, that Jerry Lewis.

Here's Shearer summing up his feelings about The Day the Clown Cried, in a 1992 interview:
"if you flew down to Tijuana and suddenly saw a painting on black velvet of Auschwitz. You'd just think 'My God, wait a minute! It's not funny, and it's not good, and somebody's trying too hard in the wrong direction to convey this strongly-held feeling."
Even setting aside the questionable taste of the premise, everything I've heard about this movie suggests it's just a total and complete mess in every way.
Seriously, I don't get Jerry Lewis at all. I've seen several of his movies, including his supposed masterpiece "The Nutty Professor", and I've seen some of his Martin & Lewis stuff, and other things, and I don't think I've even cracked a smile. He's awful.
The only thing he's been decent at is playing a total asshole in The King of Comedy. I suspect, like Tom Cruise in Magnolia, it seemed like a great role because a director tricked them into actually being themselves.

Probably the swan song for Jerry and Jerry's kids...
We are in the middle of a world wide economic collapse but Jerry didn't beat last years record...about a million and half shy of $60.5 million

Say what you will about Don and Mike but they were absolutely right about one thing: "serious Jerry Lewis" is WAY funnier than "wacky Jerry Lewis".

http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/showtracker/2011/09/comedians-honor-jerry-lewis-by-establishing-award-in-his-name.html
A group of comedians who last month attempted to get Jerry Lewis reinstated as emcee of the Musculary Dystrophy Telethon have announced an annual award in Lewis' name to be given to the individual who makes the "greatest contribution" to finding a cure for the disease.
The Laugh Factory in West Hollywood will host the comics' first fundraiser for the award Sept. 5. Jamie Masada, the club's owner, said the event will continue yearly until a cure for muscular dystrophy is found.
"This Jerry Lewis Award will be annual, like the Nobel Peace Prize," Masada said. "An icon was treated dishonorably by the corporate charitable structure. Maybe it's time to stress how an individual can make a difference."
The show will be streamed live at LaughFactory.com starting at 7 p.m. Donations can be made on the website.
