I submit rain... when you don't have to go anywhere.

(I spent 10 minutes just listening to the rain.)

OH! And a kick-ass AC/DC song when you're on you're way to work. YOU DON'T EVEN HAVE TO BE AN AC/DC FAN. It just makes you feel good and better than you were 3 minutes ago.

I agree to both.
I was listening to ACDC "Higway to Hell" on my way to work this morning. And yes, I am a fan.

Along the same lines, I love being outside during the time when it's been snowing for awhile, especially at night.

There's a lot less people on the road during that time. The snow seems to act as some super sound insulator in the atmosphere around you. It blocks out almost all the environmental noises within a few hundred feet of you.

My point is, you've never heard it so quiet outside like when you're in the middle of falling snow with a lot on the groud already. The entire world just seems at a standstill and you are the only one moving. It's nice. You can sit down or lie down in it, close your eyes and hear each individual flake hit the snow covered ground.

Try it this winter.

As an added bonus, the snow reflects even small amounts of light so the entire world seems to glow too. One street light can light up an entire half a block.

Let's put 'em together.

I was caught
In the middle of a railroad track (Thunder)

And I knew there was no turning back (Thunder)
My mind raced
And I thought what could I do (Thunder)
And I knew
There was no help, no help from you (Thunder)

Sound of the drums
Beatin' in my heart
The thunder of guns
Tore me apart
You've been - Thunderstruck

You're so right with the AC/DC thing, I would also add DMX songs to that catagory along with a few more but whan I hear a DMX record I'm ready to take on the world..
The rain and thunder sounds like a good idea except I think in the BX we forget how to appreciate that kind of stuff..

My choice would probably be, hearing someone you're absolutly crazy about say the words "I love you"..
Say what you want but the feeling you get in that situation is like no other feeling your body and mind can experience..

Rainfall is nice, but waves rolling in are my absolute favorite. On a trip to San Diego a few years back I saw on a wall at Ocean Beach and soaking in the sounds of those waves for hours.

Exactly what I was going to say.

There is no better sound, or absence thereof, than a good snowfall.

The silence of a nice blizzard is deafening.

God, I miss blizzards.

"I'm not pregnant."Is that the medical term for, "There are no roaches in my vagina!"?
If so, I think I broke another FBA code..
I'll have to revisit this theory when more evidence comes available..

Moe, YES, snow is the greatest thing to muffle the world. And people are more helpful when it snows (they help clear a driveway or dig out a car).

And, Ninny, the sound of cats purring MAKES my day.

Sorry, not so into hearing babies laugh. I don't thinks that's biologically in me.

Thunder rocks too, but I love hearing rain hit my fire escape.

I agree with the snow one, too. I once lived in a second floor apartment that was on a corner where there was nothing but restaurants and stores. Every morning was extremely loud with the sounds of delivery trucks and shit. The first time it snowed, I woke up one morning and couldn't figure out what was different. Then I realized... There was 6 inches of snow on the streets, and there was absolutely NO noise outside my windows. It was a nice temporary break.

I might actually laugh uncontrollably if a certain someone I know said this to me, if it wasn't for the fact that it would mean there's a chance I have it too.

I also love wind. I love hearing it, I love standing in it an feeling it push you a little, I love the smells it moves around on an fall day.

Heaing the wind as a storm moves in is usually pretty cool too. Knowing you're warm inside and hearing the cold winter wind whistle through something outside is usually nice.

This is one of my favorite things about winter hunting. Once you've set up in the woods and the sun starts to come up, the quiet is so quiet, that you notice the sound of anything around you. Even a branch with a few dead leaves on it blowing in the wind sounds thunderous compared to the silence.

As for the AC/DC on the way to work...not so much. I think that too many nights around "jukebox heroes" have ruined a lot of music like that for me.:wallbash: If forced to choose a tune like this I'd go with White Zombie's "Thunderkiss '65".

Nothing sounds/feels to me like a battlefield does. I remember certain times where I have stood on East Cemetery Hill at Gettysburg as the sun goes down or on Hazel Grove at Chancellorsville, and there is just so much peace and tranquility in those places that it is very difficult to imagine all the terrible things that happened there.

I also submit

-my mother singing in church

-the way my cat Lucky "chirps"

-nighttime on the Parkway or 32 with no traffic

-various hockey sounds (slapshots, skates hitting the ice, the ringing of the puck hitting the post, the siren that goes off in Verizon Centre when the Caps score)

That's one I forgot about.

Being up the mountains in PA(or any mountains), and hearing the sound of that Autumn wind blowing all the leaves around.

I wish I could live in a place that it was Autumn all year long.

I would be the happiest boy that ever lived.

Also, it doesn't happen a lot but being alone near a small river with the water moving along is always nice too. I like that dribbling noise a small area that's running over a rock the right way makes.

Also, waking up to the sound of light wind and a few birds that aren't right next to your window is always nice on a sunny morning. Kinda "hollywood" sounding but it's really nice.

I agree with Moe, the wind is a great thing, I especially like when I almost feel like it's challenging you.
Also the sound of rushing water, large rivers, they drown out the sound of everything around. One of my favorite NJ places Hacklebarny state park (NJ) in the spring when the black river is flowing a little high and the sound is nice and loud.
