anyone else out there collect movie posters?

my girlfriend has worked on and off for an independently owned cinema in town for a few years. tonight she brought over a box with a bunch rolled up in tubes and i just went through them. there were over 60 in total and she said she still has 3 boxes stored in her parents basement. i can't wait to go through those other boxes as well. some of my favorites i found are:

no country for old men
incredible hulk
juno
lord of the rings: all three
matrix reloaded
miracle
garden state
hell boy 1&2
eternal sunshine of the spotless mind
best in show
master and commander

im gonna start buying some frames for them and hang some of them up in our place. im begging her to get her boss to get us an iron man and dark knight.

Do you display them? Or do they make cellophane bags in movie poster size?

I always liked Drew Struzan's Indiana Jones illustrated posters. I also saw a show of old Broadway poster art at the Society of Illustrators in NYC a few years ago. It was really cool.

I've never had movie posters, but I bought a pretty cool poster for the Metropolitan Opera House final performance of Tommy, when I was NYC in 1983 (not original, I'm sure, but still looked good on my wall).

Online photo of someone else's...

I used to have these hung around the apartment pre-wedlock. They are all currently in a cardboard tube in my closet, pending house with extra rooms to re-hang.

I have a shit load of posters - I use to collect and sell them - I used to have more. About 15 years ago I stumbled onto about 600 posters from the 1970s that were all in beautiful shape - I think all from that group have been sold. I'm actually trying to unload the last 50 or so posters from my "to sell" pile - includes some cool stuff from the 90s and some older, obtuse 70s shit.

The most I ever made off of one poster was an original ENDLESS SUMMER - gorgeous poster. Had to let it go. On top of my own personal collection, I inhereted a collection almost exactly a year ago when my best friend passed away - she had owned DC's only movie poster shop for 25 years. For the last 12 months I've been busy selling what I can.

Stuff I've held onto over the years and framed included an original STAR WARS, YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN, WHATEVER HAPPENED TO BABY JANE?, BENEATH THE VALLEY OF THE ULTRA VIXENS, LAST MAN ON EARTH and ROCK N ROLL HIGH SCHOOL signed by PJ Soles and Johnny Ramone.

Other posters I have framed are "half sheets" of BLACK SABBATH, BLACK SUNDAY and GIGANTIS THE FIRE MONSTER (which was the American name for the second Godzilla movie).

Stuff in the personal collection not framed include recent movies 30 DAYS OF NIGHT (signed by Steve Niles), CLERKS 2 and POULTRYGEIST. I also have unframed BEING JOHN MALKOVICH, an orignial WINNIE THE POOH AND TIGGER TOO, FARGO, THE PLAYER, a freakishly rare 1969 art house reissue of THE 400 BLOWS, and my beloved John Woo's THE KILLER - original US theatrical one sheets all.

And finally, I have my star fucker posters - ones I have signed: British quad for THE EXORCIST (signed by Linda Blair), very cool British quad for HOUSE OF 1000 CORPSES (signed by Sid Haig and Bill Mosley), THE COOK THE THIEF HIS WIFE AND HER LOVER (signed by Peter Greenaway), original DC premiere of John Waters' FEMALE TROUBLE (signed by Divine and Mink Stole), TWIN PEAKS: FIRE WALK WITH ME (signed by Mark Frost), DO THE RIGHT THING (signed by John Toturro), half sheet of the original LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS (signed by the writer and 2 main actors - holding out to get Roger Corman to sign that one before I think about framing it), BOB ROBERTS (signed by a very cranky Gore Vidal), SILENCE OF THE LAMBS (signed by Jonathan Demme), and a NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD reproduction (signed by George Romero and most of the living people associated with that film). The only other reproduction I have is the a half sheet sized posted for the orignial HOUSE ON HAUNTED HILL with Vincent Price, which looks fantastic framed.

Too many fucking posters. When I put it all together, that's when I go crazy that I have too many and begin thinning the heard out some more.

Stuff I've let go that I wish I hadn't included an original SWEET SWEETBACK, DESPERATE LIVING, an enormous "3 sheet" Italian RESERVOIR DOGS, Andy Warhol's DRACULA and FRANKENSTEIN, Klaus Kinski's NOSFERATU and an original RAGING BULL that I personally got signed by Martin Scorsese - all have been sold over the years.

I saw the documentary of this movie with my chick on our second date. It didn't take much convincing to get any action later on.

There's a place in Manhattan (W 18th street...accros from the Altman building) that sell movie posters. It's just a little whole in the wall place with a sign reading "The Largest Collection of Movie Posters in the World". Not sure what it's called though.
