Man I loved that show. The problem was you had to pay attention to get all the jokes and people just don't want to have to pay that much attention to a TV show.

One of my favorite characters was Johnny the shoe shine guy. Drebin would go get info from him and then a famous person would follow Drebin asking for advice. Once it was Tommy Lasorda and another time it was Dr. Joyce Brothers.

I don't even remember Police Squad being on TV when I was growing up. Was it after Airplane came out? In college, in the late 80s, we rented all of them.

Yes, it was fantastic.

It didn't work on TV, because viewers couldn't pay enough attention to get the sight gags.


It doesn't hold up much these days.


Everyone has stolen the gags...and it all just seems silly.
