im getting a new work vehicle that is a 2008, it does not come with a tape player so i cannot use the provided tape adapter.
i tried using the fm frequency option in my ex's truck it it got reception in some areas and in others radio stations would come through or the static was just to strong to hear the xm's signal.
the vehicle has a aux adapter that i can plug into, but checked the new xm units at the stores and they do not come with a plug in for that aux jack..
the vehicle is a 08 chev but the radio isnt xm ready. its going to cost around 1000 to buy an xm radio from the stealership if i want to go that route.
what do u guys do?

What are you talking about? The aux input is designed primarily for Ipods and XM radios.
If your XM radio can use a cassette adapter, it can use the aux input. You just have to buy the correct cable from radio shack for like, five bucks.

Matty is right. If the XM radio has a jack for a cassette adapter OR a headphone jack, it will work with your auxiliary plug.
As far as the FM modulator goes, I have found that for it to work best you want to mount the magnetic XM antenna someplace close to the vehicle's radio antenna. For example if the radio's antenna is mounted on the front passenger side fender, the XM antenna wants to be nearer to the front of the roof. If the car's antenna is in the rear, the XM antenna wants to be towards the back of the roof.
By the way, you do know that you can change which frequency the XM broadcasts to the FM radio on don't you ?

i wasnt aware that an auxiliary cable would plug into the same port that the tape adapter would.
i do know that you can change stations on the frequency menu but for some reason in her truck none of them worked really well..

You can also hard wire the XM into the back of the unit with something like this...

it works if you don't have an aux jack. Basically it connects the fm modulator directly to the radio without broadcasting it

I have one of those hanging around someplace from when I needed it for my previous car. I'll sell it relatively cheap if anyone can use it. PM me.

One of the reasons I got my CRV was because it had NAV/XM built in. I hate fucking wires.

One of the reasons I got my CRV was because my last car drowned.

I assume this is what you posted from CC (http://www.myradiostore.com/fmmodulators/fm-direct-sa10112.html)? I couldn't get an image to come up.
I got this a while back because every time I delivered in anywhere in the northeast from DC to NYC for instance, I'd have to change my station every few miles. With this, I've not had to take it off of 88.1 since. And it does still broadcast a signal on top of the in line signal, because when delivering, working in my trailer, I can use my mp3 player's radio to pull in my XM signal. Now if I could just find something that I can hook up to boost my signal for when I'm working around the truck, it fades at about 30-40 feet.
