Headaches
I have gotten occasional headaches my entire life. A couple of Advil always took care of it. The last couple of weeks I have been getting a head ache right at the base of my mastoid process on the right side. Same spot everytime Advil makes it go a way too. The muscle is sore when I press on it. I went to the Doc and the PA gave me a Rx pain med which I didn't take since Advil does the trick But it seems to come most every day now. There is no stiffness or loss of range of movement Just the ache in the same spot
I take all the lifestyle Rx Lipitor,Diovan,Metformin and am responsible with them all. My reading glass RX is fine too. And no whiplash etc occured anything like that
The PA said since the pain was outside it was NOT related to my BP which has been a bit elevated lately.
Any info/suggestions?

This really does sound musculoskeletal in some way, Dr Joe. However, mastoiditis isn't completely off the table; I'd expect you to have other symptoms, even fever, malaise (I can talk to Dr Joe this way, he's a doctor ), and otalgia (ear pain, for those non-medical folks reading this). If it keeps up and mastoiditis is suspected, they'll do a CT scan of your skull and see if they can see any inflammation or abscess.
Other things would be referred pain (but this is unlikely because the muscle is sore) or some kind of neuritis (also unlikely). My main bet is inflammation of the temporalis muscle...it's a really thin muscle and at some point you did something to irritate the heck out of it. It makes sense that you can press on the muscle and reproduce the pain and that advil (ibuprofen) makes it go away temporarily.
If this is indeed the cause and it won't just go away, I think a physical therapist could do some phonopheresis or some sort of modality to make it disappear.
good luck and let me know how it goes!
your pal,
Steve

While I recognize that you are both doctors - I'm going to just call the emporer naked here and suggest that you check for sharp objects inside the skull. This is a common cause for head pain that is often overlooked by you fancy book-learned nerdy types. You can thank me later.

There's a new surgical implant shcrader valve and then we can talk standard bike pump. Hand operated though - you don't want to overinflate - hahaha. You can pick up lunch and we'll chat.
