I live in Staten Island where I can get the best Pizza in the World from any of the 5 Boroughs

I can walk to a Pizza place that is better than 90% of your Pizza Joints

But why the fuck am I addicted to Papa Johns

The new Whole Grain Pizza with Mushrooms is the top of my Pizza Depth Chart

I also have had Pizza Hut on more than 1 occasion recently

What the hell is wrong with me, are Chain Pizzerias good or do I have a problem

Chain Pizza sucks ass, but from time to time, they do pull a gem out of nowhere. I thought stuffed crust was awesome the first couple of times I had it, now I think it stinks. Maybe they caught you off guard.

You're not crazy, cause Papa Johns and Pizza Hut don't serve real pizza. It's sort of a pizza-flavored foodstuff. It's like thinking there's something wrong with liking a wetermelon flavored Jolly Rancher when you can just buy a watermelon.

Enjoy them both, I say.

I haven't tried Papa John's yet. I hate pizza hut and Domino's. Too salty for me. Only chain pizza I really like is Ci Ci's, and there are none in NY.

The good pizza you can get and the chain pizza you can get are two different things. Whenever I end up eating Dominos, I'm not thinking I'm eating a real pizza, just late night crap that isn't that good. It's coveyer belt pizza not real pizza. Luckily, I can get real pizza in this town I live in. It may not match up to Uno and Due's or some New York pizza, but it is good.

God help us.
The best tuna sandwich I ever had was on the cape. (Yarmouth. Pity it wasn't Sandwich) We went down to the docks. There was a guy in a trailer. Me and fatback both ordered a tuna sammich. He cut two tuna steaks off the bird. Seared them, added lettuce tomato and mayo. Put them on a roll.
Lunch was served.

I will carry the memory of that lunch to my grave.

I can't eat chain pizza. I used to love Pizza Hut, but that's been ruined for me b/c the only ones I can find in NYC are Pizza Hut Express, which is horrible in my opinion, and bares no resemblance to Pizza Hut.
Dominos should be illegal. Holy shit is that horrid.
Haven't had Papa John's in about 9 years.
All that being said, there's plenty of shitty non-chain pizza in NYC as well. Sad.

I think part of it is that the chains still deliver.

Out here on LI, more and more regular places- which have very good to great pizza- have stopped delivering. So if you want some pizza but don't feel like going to pick it up, you have to go chain.

While I completely agree that Staten Island pizza is better than chain restaurant pizza, I don't think it's the best of the 5 boroughs. I'd rank it third behind Brooklyn and Queens. But I may be bias because I was born/raised in Queens.

i felt the same way when I was a New Yorker...but yeah, in middle America we don't have "pizza places" like in NY. There isn't regular pizza joints that you go there and get a pie or a veal parm hero with spaghetti. You have to go to real italian resturaunt for Italian takeout, theres no "pick up" italian places.

So all we have are these Chain Pizza places where the only thing they have besides pizza is some subs and buffalo wings. It suuuuuuuuucks. And the only pizza place i found edible like that is "Snappy Tomato", but you compare it to a regular NY pizza place, its not even close

there are "local chains" though, that only exist in our area. Like "Skyline Chili" is a big Cincinnati thing thats only in Cincinnati, but there is one in every town. For some reason they love the meal of Spaghetti, chilli and waaaaaaaay too much cheese. Im talking half a bag of shredded cheddar that you get at the supermarket. When I make chili, we usually have it over elbow macaroni, with some cheese on top. But I have seen what you are talking about. That is way too much cheese for me. More like Cheese with chili.

Yeah, I see your point, I should've clarified, my comments were directed more towards people who live in the tri-state area.

Last year while visiting some relatives down in Maryland, we had pizza. They claimed it was the best pizza they've been able to find and it wasn't all that great but still better than a Dominoes.

My brother moved down to South Carolina and is lucky enough to live around the corner from a small local pizza place where the owner just happens to originate from New Hyde Park. I assume no matter who's doing the cooking, it's probably difficult to damn near impossible to duplicate a New York pizza simply due to the fact their water, dough and other ingredients are different. Anyhoo, all things considered it was pretty good pizza.

I think your brother may live near my in-laws, because they go to a pizza place in SC that is owned by a guy from this area. I'll have to ask them if it is NHP. I have heard of owners importing NY water to get better results, but that has to be expensive.

I live in the midwest but am not from the midwest (I have to clear that up)...but...depending on where you live ( I am in southern Indiana) you can find some pretty good German food and there are some good Amish carbohydrate loading buffets in the middle of nowhere, there are also some pretty bad knock off German resturants. Pizza places here pretty much suck however my new favorite if I have to eat pizza from a chain is Papa Murphy's Take and Bake. It is really good pizza and they have all of the other crap too you can take home and pop in the oven like the cinnamon bread and cheesy bread.
