I'm going to post pictures soon so that people get an idea of how messy I am and how many things I save for no reason.

I still have thing from 5th grade. and I don't mean photos or things that have to do with events in my life...

I still have the toothpicks I used for a science project once. The rest of the ones I didn't use.

I have lots of old socks for some reason. I have a pair of fubu socks I bought when I got my first job at 13. (summer job)

I also have quite a few 1-8th grade notebooks, and notes I passed.

Old cigarette packs even though I quite smoking 3 years ago and avon products that expired at least 5 years ago.

This is the ultimate challenge for me...

I'm moving into a nicer, yet smaller place soon.

Now is a very good time to try this.

Someone will now post a pic of the tiny house

Yeah okay..This guy's OCD isn't too alarming..
If I ever saw one of my neighbors taking an entire inventory of all of his earthly possessions I'd report him to Homeland Security, forthwith..

Because they might want to hire him?

Unless his stuff consists of ammonium nitrate and a rented van I would live and let live.

I've tried this approach. I usually get tired by the time I stuff the 5th hefty bag full of shit and realize I've not even scratched the surface. Meanwhile all the dust that was lying around is kicked up in the air and now I gotta blow my nose for 3 hours.

Shit might work if this was the flame challenge.

I'm a reformed packrat. I discovered how good it feels to throw shit out. Still, NO WAY I could get down to 100. That's psychotic. Counting is going to make you TOO conscious of what you have, which really should be the opposite result of the experiment, feeling lighter and freed from your possessions.

I discovered this place called the "Container Store" on Rt.17 the other day and almost creamed my pants. Years and years have gone by in which I drove by this place and never noticed it. It has EVERYTHING you could ever want for storing stuff away and making your room nice and neat.

There are rules to it so that you don't go insane.

Like things you count as a collection od things, like pictures and stuff, you're not expected to throw out.

Also things that are shared or are needed necessities like toothbrushes and soap don't count.

Clothes count tho, and all my random crap.

That's what it's really all about...

This is what one of the people posted that had done it.----

I'm going to limit my personal stuff to 100 items. Shrewd readers of this blog will immediately wonder, what constitutes personal stuff? Pretty much whatever I say. But for now a "personal stuff" does not include:

* Books, including maps - likely the stuff-vice I'll carry with me to my grave

* Tools - will hopefully get this category down to 100 sometime down the road

* Collections - for example my Marklin train collection is 1 item for now. And my collection of underwear is one 1 item for now. (Like I'd go down to 1 pair. Give me a break.) But really I don't have a lot of collections. I've always kind of wanted to, cause it seems cool to collect something. I've just never been able to muster the passion necessary.

* And stuff I cannot claim as 100% or close to 100% mine, i.e. I'm not going to toss the Hobbit picture hanging in our hallway or chuck the one radio we own, though both happened to be gifts given to me. These things don't really belong to "me" so much as our home. Someday our family might choose to take up the 100 Thing Challenge for home decorations, furnishings, and accessories. But I'm starting this challenge realistic.

Interesting, but for now I'll keep with my current method of getting rid of something when I get something else...and those toothpicks from 8th grade might still come in handy!
