I basically use my XM Delphi MyFi for Ron & Fez. I work during the day, record the replays at night, and listen to the show the following day in the car and at home.

My MyFi finally went caput the other day. While I've always had problems with it (e.g., it would occasionally crash; sometimes the time would be wrong and there was no way to change it; it would record stuff even when it wasn't supposed to; recordings would sometimes skip; etc.) it generally met my needs.

I purchased a a Skyfi3 to replace it, hoping that it would work a little better than the MyFi. Unfortunatey, it does not meet my needs at all: there's no sleep timer; it only records when on (as far as I can tell); the FM transmitter sucks and you can't set it for a specific station (basically doesn't work in my car); and it acts funky (i.e., it doesn't always work).

Can anyone recommend an XM receiver that might work for me? I need something that:

1. Is portable and can be used in the car and at home.
2. Can record.
3. Has a sleep timer (and an alarm).
4. Has a decent FM transmitter so I can listen to it on my car's FM radio.

Sorry for the wordy post, but I'm desperate here. Going through major R & F withdrawal.

Thanks.

I could be wrong, but I'm not sure they make anything that fits all of your criteria, particularly the sleep feature & alarm. The FM Transmitter on any new XM unit is going to suck horribly due to the deals XM & Sirius had to make with the FCC.... but the Inno or Helix (same radio in slightly different cases) can record & can schedule recordings, even if the unit is turned off (as long as it's plugged into the dock). The built in antenna isn't the best thing ever, but it works OK.

I've had MyFi's for over 4 years and have had similar experiences to you, (crashes, erratic recording etc) but since I am invested in the hardware (car kits, home kit, office kit etc) I find it hard to change to anything else. About a year ago I dropped my MyFi and cracked the display, so I bought a used MyFi and it kept me happy. If you were happy with the MyFi I would suggest going to MyRadioStore.com (using the link on the left of this screen) and get another one. They are fairly cheap if you get a refurburshed one.

What kind of failure did your MyFi experience ? If the screen was still working when you last used it I'd give you a few bucks for it so that I could use it for parts. PM me if you are interested.

I have 3 different units but the one I use the most is the INNO..It's recording abilities are far superior to all the other shitty units I've tried..

The only draw backs for me are, the headphones make you look like the retard in Something about Mary and it's not compatable with itunes so using the MP3 feature is a pain in the ass..

Btw, if you record a song off the radio it automaticly erases itself in like 30 or 60 days or some weird shit like that But I really like it for the replays..

Thanks for the info. guys.

How's the Inno's FM transmitter? And does it have a sleep timer? I can live with looking like a retard (I've done that for most of my life).

Not sure if I want to give up my old MyFi yet -- might tinker with it to see if I can get it working again.

On my MyFi which I love the best, I have had to pull the battery to reset it when it locks up or acts up, similar to a cell phone. Mine I bought when they first came out and it is still going strong.

Otherwise Rich has a great suggestion if you like the MyFi.

I love my Inno. The transmitter is okay, but I think you have to find an Inno version 1. You can get them for a decent price at myradiostore. I'm using the FM direct in the car to avoid any static at all. And it works very nicely. If you are listening to recorded stuff, you can use whatever headphones / earbuds you want.

I'm pretty sure there's no sleep timer.

I spent quite a bit of time playing with this cool Inno demo they put together before I bought mine. http://www.xm411.com/interactiveinno/

Finally a link to the refurbished unit. http://www.myradiostore.com/xm-radio-receivers/pioneer-inno-refurbished.html <-- Sorry I just looked at the link and it says out of stock. Give them a call or e-mail they may know if / when they'll be getting more in. The customer service there is top-notch #1.

Well... I took your advice and ordered another MyFi. They didn't have any refurbished ones and no-one else seems to sell it, so I got a new one with the dock. Spent a few extra bucks, but I knew I couldn't go too much longer without XM.

Thanks again for the suggestions!
