He's playing here on Friday and I have no plans. I'm a fan in the respect that I've liked everything I've heard and own "Highway 61 revisited", "Blonde on Blonde" and a "Greatest Hits"...I was thinking of buying the cheapest seat day of the show and mellow out just for the experience. But is it worth it for me to go? I hear he kinda sucks live...

He's really hit or miss these days.
If you've heard his voice on the last two records, you won't be shocked.
His growl is getting worse...and it's sort of depressing, actually.
I've seen him around 20 times in the last few years, but I haven't seen a strong show since 2003.
It's worth it for the experience.
I guess it depends on your expectations.

The shows are very hit or miss depending on how drunk he is. We walked out of one show it was so ridiculous. You could see a moment of history, or you could see a drunk jam session. I'd say if it was within a 30-45 minute drive, it could be interesting at least.

Unfortunately, he gave up drinking a few years back.
He doesn't have that excuse to fall back on.

yeah its 10mins away. Its just that the $60 I spend on a shitty seat (price would include surcharges and what not) I could be spending at booze at a bar nextdoor

Go. Go. Go. I've seen him twice in the past few years and each time it was great. His voice has improved greatly since the mid 90's... when he quit drinking... but I guess with any live concert, you take a risk. It's one worth taking.

I have great memories of Dylan and the Heatbreakers at MSG.
I'd give it a shot. You can meet up with reillyluck beforehand.:innocent:

I disagree - I think its mostly miss these days. Not because of his voice but because he changes the songs until they are unrecognizable. I saw him last year and every song sounded like the same mediocre rockabilly song. If I concentrated really hard I could figure out the song by recognizing only the lyrics ....
And I am a big Dylan fan - just never saw him live that I've enjoyed it.
I vote booze!

i'd say go
but be prepared for nothing familiar -- even cherished, all time favorite songs will have little or no resemblance
and be prepared for the gaggle of middle-aged to gripe the whole show about how he doesn't sound like the cd

Yeah, who wants to sit around and listen to Dylans lyrics ? If you're even debating it, dont go. Or you could just get drunk AT the Dylan show?

Yeah, don't you remember Earl's story about Dylan drinking coffee because he gave up drinking. It was riveting radio.

Is that the one where he couldn't figure out why everyone in the store was smoking,
and then he realized he was in a cigar store...

Because Bob Dylan is a notoriously erratic performer on stage. He is a brilliant songwriter but an atrocious performer. It can be so bad that it is worth finding out a consensus in my opinion. Love Bob but I don't think I would see him again.

I saw Dylan with my dad a few years back and to this day it's one of my favorite father/son events just because of how much my dad enjoyed the show. It was a great show, sounds like I was lucky to see a solid performance.

I rest my case ..................
It's still Dylan. He might suck, but you're only out maybe $100 for tix, gas, beer, etc....

I've seen him four or five times and they've all been good shows but one and it was in 1990ish. The last time I saw him was with Willie Nelson in the middle of a minor league ballpark tour and it was a great show. I'll see him in Tulsa a week from today and I'm pumped.

Just go see Dylan already!
Why gather votes for worldly experience?
I've seen some amazing Dylan shows...among a few poopers.
See him and if it stinks...regret your life...and his.
Please lock this stupid thread the fuck up.

You've made it so easy to measure your Douche-itude.
Sometimes celebrating ignorance isn't cool, hip, or groovy.
You've heard a Dylan song...
They've been covered by EVERYONE.
Knockin' on Heaven's Door? Never heard it?
I guess bragging about not being open to things is what we do when we're complacent...
and satisfied with close-mindedness.
Yay!
Bust out your Creed albums and rejoice!

i saw dylan open for the dead right before jerry died. he was ok, didnt do much for me. then again, i was trippin balls during his set and was able to enjoy myself once the dead came on. i liked that i was able to have the experience of seeing him and the dead.
