So I was at an engagement party Friday night and was talking to a few of the guests and the subject of rugby came up. I have played once or twice years ago and I played football in college (25 years ago) so when a few of the younger guests (mid-to late-20's) asked if I'd like to join them I gladly agreed. They play on Sundays so I showed up ready to play. What a fucking disaster...part of the result is:

Additionally I bruised my ribs, split my lip and have a cut on my right eye lid that required four stiches to close. All of this in less than an hour of playing. The ribs, lip and eye all occurred at different times and the day ended when I broke my ankle. Of course the most damage was done to my ego which only seems to be responding to intense Knob Creek therapy of which my second session has just begun.

Who else feels old?

Age had nothing to do with it. You should have known better when the you showed up and the youngsters looked like this:

i dusted of the old freestyle bike (dyno) about 3 weeks ago after a solid 15 yrs and started riding it with my brother and another friend. it was fun until i started to do some old tricks and i thought "wow, i don't remember it being this much work". i was sore for a day or two after. the sad thing is they have been calling me to ride again and i keep telling them i'm busy, when the truth is its not as fun as i remember it.

it's not the age, it's no longer being fit.
you can be old as a rock and still be fit as a sneaker (ugh- German sayings translated sound really stupid)

after hurting grampa for the first second and third time, why didn't they take it easy or just ask you to take a break?

I can't drink the Knob Creek like I used to. One shot = one headache the next day. Unless I drink a glass or two of water.

I prefer it to Jack...pretty smooth...except this morning...now I curse it...

I'm as fit as I've ever been ( I ran a sub 3:50 marathon in July and lift more than I've done since college) it's the reaction time. Very noticeable decline...

good point, good point...fun? pity? both?
