Looks like our boy's put on some weight.
But yes the show indeed looks great.
I read the thread title, and I was pissed.
I thought 'twas the Pilot that I had missed.
For the show's schedule, we'll wait and see.
It does look funny, whenever it'll be.

I dont know the date. Even on the CBS website it just says "Wednesdays (Fall 2008) 8:30 pm et/pt"
For the most part fall lineups start in Sept. but since it's a new show they may start it in the middle of the season.

I like it, but I doubt it's top 3. premium channels aside, I can think of at least 3 cable or network shows I would put above it - 30 Rock, The Office and It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. And with HBO and Showtime, it could drop a few more spots.
Good show, certainly the best thing CBS has to offer, but no cigar.

Laugh track stinks, but I was laughing so hard I generally couldn't hear it. They packed a LOT into that first episode, but way more jokes hit than missed. It was mostly the obvious cliche domineering type wife bitchy jokes that stunk, but Jay hit almost every time, and the wife had some pretty good lines. Kids seem interesting too. Didn't love the hiding girl in the room joke, because it was way obvious and kinda cliche, but I like it because it works for the development of the son's life under his dad's supervision.
I give it an A+. Loved it.

yeah..as far as standard sitcom format shows go, its definitely something worth watching
Obviously its no Arrested Development or Curb Your Enthusiasm or any of these great comedies to come out "Post-Seinfeld" to really push the format
But as far as "4 camera shoot set sitcom" it has potential. Its a comfort show for sure. Jay is a great actor and I'm interested to see where it goes (pilot episodes are always the weakest shows for sitcoms as far as laughs go).
I gotta say though, Jaime King really looked alot like Nikki Cox to me in the sitcom though. Anyone else think that? They had the same hair and stuff.

If the pilot syndrome is the case, then this show is going to end up being RIDICULOUSLY funny. Just about every joke got me. As far as Ms. King, she looks hotter than she's ever looked (and she's always been hot), and even hotter than Nikki. Just personal preference, though. Nikki is damn hot. And I wouldn't turn her down, Jay. Seriously. If you're reading this thread. I wouldn't turn her down. Cuz she's hot. But if you got a connection with Jaime King, I'll taker her over your wife. But only because I don't want to commit an adulterous act with your lovely wife. Because I'm a respectful guy that way.
And whatnot.

i can't think of any traditional sitcom that had a great pilot. I think its just awkward to set up the storyline. I can't even watch the entire first season of Seinfeld..its too different
but yeah, Jay has the talent to take the show to another level, the premise is open enough for many possibilities, I have high hopes for the directions it could go in

I actually really liked the Seinfeld pilot. It was definitely weird and much different from what the show evolved into, but it was still good.
As far as GU, it really does come off as a generic sitcom show, and it has plenty of the sitcom cliches and has that network sitcom feel (which I've never liked), but it has potential if they really develop the characters well. The son and daughter can turn out to be very interesting, and we still haven't been introduced to Vanessa's kid. I just hope they can figure out the ex-wife and therapist deal, because other than a bunch of funny one-liners Jay got off on the relationship, it just doesn't seem like something genuinely interesting, and the one-liners about it will eventually get boring.
It's got a LOT of potential, and if the great one-liners keep up and they are able to make the characters as interesting as they can be within a cohesive storyline, this can be a damn good show period, instead of just a good platform for Jay to get off funny one-liners.

A pretty good half hour. The pilot episode basically just establishes characters, so we'll have to see how good the story lines are in future episodes. Very Two and a Half Men-ish, but considering how big of a hit that show is, maybe it's a good thing. If it lasts longer than Men Behaving Badly, consider it a success.

I'm on the same page as everyone else here. I had some genuine laugh out loud moments. I haven't watched a sitcom since Seinfeld but I felt it was decent enough to fit in well with the other CBS sitcoms. The show before it is a hit, so hopefully a lot of viewers stayed on channel.
The laugh track has got to go. Live audience!
Nice work Jayjay! I'll be watching.
And you should have no worried about being up against Knight Rider. I was about 20 minutes of that show last night before yours. Awful. I highly doubt the American viewing public would buy int.... oh... well. Good luck!!

Eh, average sitcom. Nothing that Raymond, Men or Christine (or the 20 fat guy/hot chick shows) haven't covered already. I think I laughed once, which is actually pretty good for a sitcom, but I doubt I'll be watching it religiously.
Good to see Jay get some regular work though, he's got this thing to pay off on his AmEx:

That's Jaime King, formerly known as James King, who dated Kid Rock like 10 years ago. She was a model (supermodel maybe?) and back then dating Kid Rock was the biggest thing she had ever done. She's become a good actress though and changed her name to a girl's name, and she's hotter than ever. Put on a bit of healthy weight, too.

The ratings are in, and it's good news!
Gary Unmarried earned a 2.38 P18-49 last night. That was up +53% vs. last week's same time period and up +71% vs. the prior four weeks.
But here's the even better news: Old Christine at 8pm earned a 2.11, which was 11% lower than jayjay's show.
That means more viewers tuned in to see jayjay. I'm sure CBS will be happy to hear that.
More good news: It skewed 57% Female... which advertisers like to hear. In fact the highest rating was a 3.48 among W25-54, also higher than Old Christine.
Now how it ranked for the night.... stand by...

It was okay. Slightly better than the modern sitcom. I fucking hate filmed in front of audience shows. I got turned off to the critically acclaimed Back To You because it was "filmed in front of an audience". But there were a few lines that made me laugh, and that's a few more than other sitcoms. I agree his ex is hot, but the show was no-go in my book.
I tivoed it and before we got halfway in my wife and I turned it off to watch this weeks Trueblood again.

I think it has potential. Pilots pretty much all stink. It did have some big laughs and I was surprised at some of the jokes they did make. The problem with pilots is that they try to introduce the characters and develop them too quickly because they want people to like all the characters.
I do hope the show continues and gets at least one full season. Jay is really hilarious and the ex-wife and girlfriend-to-be are smoking!

One thing kills me - replacing an actor from the pilot to the second episode. Jay has a new daughter. Sure, I get it, the pilot shoots 5 months before the season starts, but is it so hard to re-shoot the few scenes with the new actor before the start of the season?

I watched Gary UnDieting for the first time last night and found it OK but I would not go so far as to say solid or smash.
I think a big part of it is that anything done on pussy-ass network TV is so restricted in terms of content that any sitcom immediately starts out with a huge humor reduction off the top, esp. ones where the comedian involved is a bit saltier on-stage.
Also, the son is ultra-annoying and has to go now.

This show gets better and better for me with each episode. It's not genius television, but it's pretty funny and realistic at times. I think Jay is great in it, and I've loved Jamie King for the longest time she's amazing.
The one area that I think is really weak is the writing for the kids. I think that and the interaction between the kids could be a lot better and I'm not crazy about Ed Begley Jr. Aside from that I think this show has so much potential.

Gary Unmarried earned a 2.36 P18-49 last night, up +7% from the previous week.
In fact, ratings were up across most major demos (18-49 and 25-54).

Third week, highest ratings yet. Well done.

Gary Unmarried had another good week last week, and it was up against the debate and the baseball playoffs.
It earned a 2.32 P18-49, only down -2% from the previous week. Male demos were down, which was expected, but Women 18-49 was up +6% from the previous week. Considering the competition, that's some good news.
That's a month of decent ratings. I don't know if it has yet, but I'd predict a full season pick up for Gary Unmarried.

a four minute segment on 'penultimate'
I just watched the show and was wondering if anybody else picked that up. ESD should be picking up a royalty check, or at least a half bottle of Jamesons.
Next week, Jay keeps his son in line by explaining how many nine year olds he can knock out. It's fun getting inside jokes.

I'm with you two. I got a huge kick out of his ex-wife going nuts about how stupid she was for using the word "penultimate".

you know what i like about "Gary Unmarried"?
The women on the show aren't insufferable cunts.
alot of sitcoms these days, like "Raymond" and "king of queens", they make the female character these illogical, nasty, emasculating bitches that shit on their husbands any chance they get
on "Gary Unmarried" the women are pretty understanding and reasonable people. Even the ex-wife...which they coud've painted as a bitch, tries to do the right thing

You talking about Jay's dad on the show?
That is Max Gail who has been in tons of shows, but is probably most famous for being on Barney Miller.
I did not see tonight's show yet, but I think that is who you mean.

Much to Allison's anger, Gary uses his 'veto', that he and Allison get to use once a year, to stop Louise from taking Chinese lessons because he feels she has to many extracurricular activities. But when Gary signs Louise up for golf lessons, Allison ends up using her veto.

The CBS affiliate in Tampa played a Tampa Bay Rays season preview special during Gary Umarried's time slot, but thankfully they played the show in HD around 2:30 in the morning.
My DVR still caught it and I just watched it. Glad to see Dr. Crandall (Ed Begley, Jr.) is gone. Well I assume he's gone since it was mentioned that him and Allison broke up.
I hated his character and felt that he made the show more cartoony.

Nice to have GU back last night. Kind of poor timing for having several Danny Gans references the same week he died. At least they put up a memorial card at the end of the show.

Jay Mohr is trying to be a radio DJ now on Gary unmarried. He has a sidekick who keeps making gay comments. Now he's doing Walken
So is that why he keeps calling the show?

He's been calling in for many years...and they hardly ever plug his show anymore. So I think he's just calling in to add to convo...or ask about 50 cent.
