Liverpool !!!

I'm a fan, but not a hardcore one. I have my childhood team, which I watch every match of, but Liverpool is my adopted team in the Premier League.

Channel 120 on your Brighthouse Dial.
You get a minimum of 4 games (sometimes 5) every weekend.

I'm psyched for the start of the season. Hopefully Steven Gerrard will be fit to play on Saturday. If not, Xabi looks revitalized, and I really like the way some of the young kids have looked this pre-season (especially Plessis and Spearing), so I wouldn't mind them getting a run out.

Absolutely. I married into a family of hardcore Arsenal supporters. We go and get drunk and watch the games at Nevada Smith's in Manhattan. Anyone else watch football/soccer there?

Would any of you be interested in creating a fantasy EPL league?

I just established a team on espn.com and they offer the creation of mini-leagues.

Last year I tuned out the NFL pregame shows in favor of the EPL. I'll probably do the same this year. This way I get four football games on Sunday instead of just three. I really think FSC could market it that way.

They might have to come on a little harder. So long, Dimitar. Have fun riding the pine with the stable of strikers over at UTD.

I'm also in the Tampa area. I've never lived in an area where I could get satellite, but now I do, so I get Fox Soccer Channel, Fox Sports en Espanol (soccer games in Spanish), and on Friday I ordered Setanta.

I loved Setanta's coverage. Much better than FSC, but I just love it now that I can watch many more matches this season.

ESPN has the rights to up to 2 EPL games a week. They show the Saturday 745am game and the Monday 3pm games. BUT, in the event there is no 745am game Saturday, you get a 10am game instead. If the ratings are good, ESPN will prob purchase the rights to EPL games thru 2013. Those rights will be up for sale this year. ESPN will also be showing La Liga games this year too. And of course, Fox Soccer Channel shows 2-3 games each Saturday, with 2 being live and the 3rd being a tape and will show games on Sundays as well at times.

ESPN will be showing 48 live games. Here is a brief list of some games:

Sat., 7:40 a.m. Chelsea vs. Hull City
Sat., Aug. 22, 9:55 a.m., Wigan Athletic vs. Manchester United
Mon., Aug. 24, 2:55 p.m. , Liverpool vs. Aston Villa
Sat., Aug. 29, 7:40 a.m., Chelsea vs. Burnley
Sat., Sept. 12, 9:55 a.m., Liverpool vs. Burnley
Sat., Sept. 19, 7:40 a.m, Burnley vs. Sunderland
Sat., Sept. 26, 7:40 a.m., Portsmouth vs. Everton
Mon., Sept. 28, 2:55 p.m., Manchester City vs. West Ham

As far as La Liga games, ESPN will show 20 of those.

Don't count on ALL games being in HD.

I knew about the ESPN2 deal in advance, so I was all set this morning to watch the game.

Really hard to go from HD to FSC's 10am broadcast. FSC goes HD in January, so hopefully a lot of providers will have it launch day. Start pestering your cable/satellite providers now.

I'm really happy now cause I've had Setanta in the past, but moved this summer and my new cable provider doesn't offer it, so I was really bummed about that. Now I'll only be missing the early Sunday morning match.

Saturday has become Soccer Day for me. Espn and Fox Soccer Channel is all I watch. EPL, Serie A and MLS. Its awesome. Cant wait to see La Liga on ESPN. I also love that FSC has the Champions League. They will show 114 games live. ESPN only showed a handful. Thank god FSC will have HD soon.

So, i read on an EPL blog type site that ESPN Classic could be turning into ESPN 3 and soccer would be the main attraction on the channel. I think that would be awesome. The ratings for EPL games on ESPN 2 have been amazing. The Liverpool-Aston Villa game on Monday got 0.3 rating. I know it doesn't seem like much b/c it is in fact a large number for ESPN. I hope they get more EPL game slots, maybe 2 Saturday games instead of 1 or Sunday games. More EPL in HD, the better.

I think the key to getting soccer better recognized in the US is getting top-flight soccer on TV here. The MLS is fine, but it's not until you see a EPL game played in front of 70,000 people going apeshit crazy that you really get it.

Dan G
08-29-2009, 03:32 PM
ESPN will also be airing La Liga games on Sundays.

So the schedule will be:

Saturday- 7:45am or 10am (only if there isn't an earlier game that day, no HD at 10, but it will be upconverted).
Sunday- La Liga (I haven't seen the schedule, so I have no idea what time of the day they'll broadcast).
Monday- 3pm if one is scheduled.

Dan 'Hampton

The EPL is really a blast to watch unfortunately MLS isn't. It gives soccer a bad name. I know it has to grow but it's way too slow and a bit Italian in it's softness.

And to think that they only had 2 points last year when 'arry took them over.

When I look at most of the teams in the big four, with the possible exception of Chelsea, they all look like they've regressed somewhat. Bringing the them back to the pack is good and should make for a more entertaining seasons. But maybe more importantly than that, it should allow for other teams to knock one or two teams out of that big four.

It's early days yet and I don't know if Spurs can keep their spot in the CL places, especially after such a ropey win as yesterday's, but I wouldn't be too shocked to see them finish up there at the end. If they do, I'll be even more upset that Liverpool couldn't manage to find a place for Robbie Keane between all of the bullshit between Rafa and the board of directors.

If you have a taste for that sort of sport, have a look at espn.co.uk. EPL, SPL, La Liga, Bundesliga, Portugese, Russian and rugby as well. (No cricket, though, sadly. Could have used that during the Ashes.)

If they were to make ESPN-CL into ESPN-UK, that would be awesome. Or even get rid of that ESPN-U nonsense, they really only utilize it during college football weekends and March Madness. They rest of the time it's just shit.

If didn't get a chance to see the last half of United-Arsenal from yesterday, find it. Great stuff, especially the last 10 minutes or so.

Wenger is such an ass. They might play brilliant football every now and then, but I'll never understand how he can go that long with that team and win nothing and keep his job.

As much as I enjoy watching La Liga from time to time, for me it is just like the Scottish Premier League. Two teams at the top and then everyone else. Of course, the difference is that Madrid or Barca actually have a chance in Europe while Celtic are already out and Rangers have no chance in hell of making the final 8.

That said, I'll probably still watch it... Hopefully Zlatan will play and do something particularly brilliant or stupid.

La Liga is good, but I defy anyone who is a fan of sports to watch an EPL game and not see how awesome the game is, how superior this league is to any league (and sport for that matter) and how great it is that the top level games are being shown live on HD.

Wow. What a day so far. Portsmouth is still winless after a tough loss to Everton 1-0. Liverpool is killing Hull City 4-1, with Torres scoring a hat trick. Fulham vs Arsenal is next and I expect that one to be good as well.
