I find if I eat tomato sauce maore than usual, I tend to get irritation in my tush (read between the lines).
Will taking Acidophilus help this? Some guy were I work was telling me about it after I camplined about the irritation, and when I tried searching, all I get is ads, so I figued Id ask in case anyone has actual experience. I eat s small yogurt almost every morning for breakfast...
The guy recommended taking it between meals... Any thoughts?

A nutritionist friend of mine has been doing thesis work on acidophilus (dropped in pill form) and has determined that it is extremely beneficial for long term health when paired with a relatively healthy diet. It may even help to stave off major illnesses. It can certainly be helpful if you are taking a round of antibiotics. Not sure if it will address your ass. Excess consumption of tomatoes is a legendary cause of gastric complaints, heartburn and Italians. Were I a doctor I would suggest trying a daily supplement of acidophilus and, most importantly, EAT LESS TOMATOES!!!

And look out for something called acido-phallus, because that is designed to hurt your ass.

Now, please listen to Doctor Steve contradict everything I have just said because he IS a doctor.

Ever hear the one about the guy goes to the doctor and says "hey doc, when I put my arm like this, it hurts... what should I do?"

Doc: Don't do that.

Travelers to foreign lands with sub-par water systems can take acidophilus pills to ward off "The Turistas". Unfortunately, they need to be refrigerated, so it often doesn't make sense to take them with you. Or you can go to the market and get yogurt every day. I think that the concept is to replace the beneficial digestive bacteria that has been slaughtered with the local savage bacteria.

I don't know that they would help your AAS (Acidulated Anus Syndrome).

YES its great.....while yogurt has some in it, mainly the commercials are just using the fact that is has some in it to sell the product....

taking it in pill, powder, or liquid form would defiantly help with your digestion.
but acidophilus is most popular for helping with yeast infections....thats why you see only women eating yogurt on the commercials...

if you can find something with around 13+billion organisms in it, you will be in business....some supplement facts or things you wanna look for on the back of a product that might help you :
L. Rhamnosus, L. Casei, L. Plantarum, L. Bulgaricus, L. Salvarius, Enterococus Faecium, S. Thermophilus, B. Longum, B. Breve and OF COURSE L. Acidophilus

each of these are a different type of Probiotic....which is GOOD bacteria that keeps you healthy (digestion & IMMUNE SYSTEM especially!...aka if u take antibiotics you should take probiotics)...

if you want to really feel good....u can take what i take which is not only probiotics but before/after a heavy meal especially meals with beef, eggs, anything high protein...i take enzymes...i take source naturals daily essential enzymes which have protese (breaks down protein) Lipase (which breaks down fat) and Amylase (which breaks down carbs) Cellulase (breaks fiber) and Lactase (breaks milksugars)
if your belly hurts from digesting heavy food this is def the way to go....you know that big belly feeling you get after u eat steak...this prevents that feeling....

if you wanna do even more u can get papaya pills which help with digestion...and they tastes good if u chew them

i know alot about products so i u need help chosing one let me know!

otherwise im back to my regularly scheduled perverted bad girl talk...

The long and short of it is yes. You already have loads of it in your intestine. Alot of acid reflux and other assorted burny conditions can be attributed to a lack of acidopholus. As previously stated, you find it in yogurt too.

It's actually kinda necessary if you want to live healthy. But most people don't need to take pills of the stuff. Personally I find it a little distasteful chugging capsules loaded with bacteria but that's just my prejudice.

As an aside, acidopholus helps other bacteria eat your guts out while you're dead. But while you're living it's happy to feast on whatever you're feasting on.

Everything Britneypablo said, plus...

Kal makes a probiotic product called Acidophilus 20 that has 20 billion micro-organisms per capsule, with acidophilus and b.lactis (one inhabits the upper intestine and one inhabits the lower), and it doesn't need to be refrigerated.

Kal tests their probiotic products in real time studies, under real circumstances, which is important, since probiotics are LIVE bacteria that are always dying. The studies on this product come back with 30 billion bacteria per capsule, at the expiration date... so they add a lot more micro-organisms to account for the fact that it's always dying.

I take this one because it has everything I need in a probiotic... I've tried a bunch of them over the 10+ years in the industry and this was the first one that I could actually feel difference day to day. I have a lot of digestion issues and it keeps everything "all good", which is the nicest way I can say it without going into too much detail.

REALLY not sure if it'll help with the tomato situation... as I'm just not sure what "irritated in the tush" means.

Yes, you can get acidophilus in yogurt, but not really the amount of it that you really should be getting. It's good to take a supplement, and many of the supplements do need to be refrigerated, but I found the Acidophilus Pearls (http://www.seacoastvitamins.com/topic.php?health=acidophilus+pearls), and they don't have to be kept in the fridge, which is more convenient and better if you travel. I don't know if it will help all of the issues you've been having with your tomatoes, but it should help. But tomatoes are a pretty acidic food, so you might want to think about limiting how many you eat. Everything in moderation.
