Black People and Swimming.

I would like to address the issue of swimming with in the black community. I'll to start off by saying that I can swim and enjoyed jumping off the high dive in my youth.

Everyone in my nuclear family can swim. My dad was on the swim team in his high school. My cousins can swim.

It is true that a lot of black people can't swim, but there are those of us out there who can. But just cause we can doesn't mean we like too.

I know for a fact a lot of black women can be extremely obsessive about the appearance of their hair. And everyone knows the damage that chlorine and salt water can have on one's hair. Very drying. I can't account for the men though.

At my last job, I had two of my workers (both black) talking about going to the lake and going swimming and I laughed and told them how I had always heard that black people couldn't swim. They thought it was the funniest thing ever and then started to realize that almost zero of their friends actually did know how to swim. They also found that pretty hilarious.

When I was a kid, the blacks always wore T-Shirts when they entered the pool. They always used their hands to repeatedly wipe beaded water off their faces and almost never strayed far from the shallow end. Those fuckers ruled the shallow end though. If a soft-white punk floated in their domain, it was a relentless barrage of dunking and water torture.

She was fine with wading in 2ft of water but if it became 3ft she started flipping the fuck out and would somehow start sinking while doing the lamest doggy paddle even though she's 5'2". Meanwhile this black guy named Seamus took a swan dive into there and was doing laps.

i taught myself how to swim in fifth grade in our apartments pool, and developed swimmers ear because i spent so much time swimming and cliff diving at the local rock quarry

all of my black friends growing up could swim, and the only time i came across the occasional one that couldn't they always seemed to be from the inner city, where a pool is literally a luke warmed pissed in city pool where there's barely any room to walk nevertheless swim.
