I'd go with Rome. Flawless production and casting.

Unbelievable presentation for a TV show.

One of the most captivating shows I've ever seen.

The Wire not being on the list is fucking evil.

I submit you replace BoB with it since all the others were ongoing series and that was just a miniseries.

NO WIRE, NO JUSTICE, NO PEACE.

Yeah, I figured I'd forget one...fair enough...make the change, Mr. Mod.

At least I didn't leave it off in favor of Entourage.

I'm honestly torn between The Wire and The Sopranos.......im gonna have to vote Sopranos because of it's intensely close proximity to my life/town/life experiences.

Martin Tupper rubbed whoresauce all over my TV every night at 10!

Band of Brothers is my all-time favorite. But best show has to be The Wire. Sopranos made too many shitty episodes to be best all-time.

aaaaaaaaaaand...

Tales from the Crypt.

I picked the Wire, but I've only seen the Wire and Sopranos, and a couple episodes of Larry Sanders. I loved what I saw of Sanders, but I didn't have HBO, so I only saw it a few times when staying in a motel.

The all time best series is clearly Babar.

Dream On was the reason I ordered HBO way back when.
I'd vote for it if it were listed.

And I loved Deadwood....and Curb....man this is tough

But on this list, I'd have to go with Sopranos.
I didnt like the ending, but I looked forward to the new ep every week.

Forget “The Sopranos.” Forget “Rome.” When it comes to grand, operatic storytelling, rich, deep characters and true exploration of modern urban America’s institutions (and their long, slow slide into dysfunction), you can’t beat “The Wire.” (http://www.tauntongazette.com/entertainment/x1727388367/Fifth-Wire-season-completes-HBOs-greatest-series)

The Wire, hands down. And that's saying a lot considering how amazing Sopranos is.

Since Larry Sanders is the best television show ever, it only makes sense that it's also the best HBO show.

I was obsessed with Carnivale throughout the entire two seasons... I'm still really upset about them not finishing it. It was deep, it was dark, it was colorful, mysterious and awesome... in fact, it might be time for a re-watch

But since it never had an ending, I'll pick Larry Sanders... it's timeless and hysterical. Rip Torn is the best

I went with The Sopranos
not so much for the quality compared to the others, but I think the Sopranos helped put HBO original series on the map.

Deadwood is the correct answer- if you haven't seen it you really need to.

I really hated The Sopranos. I guess the only thing that could really challenge Deadwood for me would be if we were counting Band of Brothers.

Rome is the ONLY HBO series I ever thought worth it to purchase with their ass-raping prices of DVD sets. Deadwood is a close second though, still considering purchasing that one.

Things like Band of Brothers and Angels in America I don't consider a full series. They're mini-series movies.

The Sopranos was ruined for me by the last few seasons of drivel. Never watched the Wire.

I am VERY interested to see what they do with this new vampire series they are about to debut.

I don't have HBO and it sucks. I've never seen the Wire, not really my thing and i although i own the only seasons of Rome, i've never watched it.

I bought Big Love 1 & 2 and love love love that show, it's different but not outrageously so.

Is Deadwood really good? My boyfriend LOVES Rome and showed some interest in Deadwood, would it be worth it to buy?

QFT. I really want to know how Ben and Brother Justin's story ends. And Sophie turning out to be Brother Justin's daughter. Grrrr I need an ending!

And no Flight of the Conchords?

If this was an O&A board, I think there'd be an overwhelming Lucky Louie write-in campaign. But this isn't and the omission and no one else bringing it up speaks volumes.

How in the hell am I supposed to choose between The Wire and Mr. Show.????

They were both the best shows in there respective catagories, but to choose????

I feel like my existence is just going to end by being asked this question.
No dying, just end.

And I loathe HBO for for not finishing Carnivale and John from Cincinnati.

Yes, I was upset with the way they treated Carnivale, as well as Deadwood.
Larry Sanders was truly great.

Side note: I only get HBO (and now showtime) for the original programming; I almost never watch the movies, unless its on demand.

as for Lucky Louie, I actually enjoyed it, as did several of my friends who never listen to O&A; however no way it belongs in a discussion of best HBO shows.

my favorite as an adult was six feet under. i just loved that show more than anything on tv. it never ever disappointed me. even when lili taylor (who i fucking can not stand more than any other actress ever) was cast as nate's wife. i got over it thankfully due to the way the story wound up. but i went with fraggle rock just for the sheer joy it brought me as a child & how happy i get whenever they come into conversation or i see something fraggle related.

I'd say The Wire might be one of the best shows ever so I'd put it at the top of my list.

Oz was great but not nearly as good as The Wire.

I actually might put Deadwood above Oz mostly due to it's ability to go through an entire season, let alone 10 minutes, w/out male nudity.
