That's really cool actually. I've never seen anything like that in person, it's definitely something I's like to witness before I do.

The moon's shadow blocks out the sun Friday in Gaotai, China. A total eclipse was visible in the upper reaches of the Northern Hemisphere, from Siberia to Greenland to northern Canada.

It happens when the moon passes in front of the sun.

The next total solar eclipse will be on July 22, 2009, but you'll have to be in India, China, a handful of Japanese islands or the South Pacific Ocean to see it.

You know, I have to be honest but my brain skipped right over the "often" part of your original question. Wasn't trying to be a smart ass, so my apologies.

No worries man, I've seen worse by far on here. I just figured at least I'd try to respond to it rather than take it in stride. Understandable mixup. :surrender::surrender:

Solar eclipse excitement sweeps Asia (http://www.cnn.com/2009/WORLD/asiapcf/07/21/asia.solar.eclipse/index.html)

Story Highlights
•NASA says it will be "exceptionally long" total solar eclipse; will cross half the planet

•MIT astronomer says it could be seen by more people than any other eclipse

•The path of the total eclipse will stretch across the heart of Asia

I'm tired of Asia and Europe getting all the eclipses. The U.S. doesn't get one until 2017 and the last one was in 1979!

Wasn't there one in 1994-95?
