Well here we go folks they have the Colts this weekend in teh first pre-season games.
In the tough NFC East a 3-3 division record would be considered great for any of the teams i think.
The skins do start out tough with 3 games against the division in the first 5 weeks of the season
And the Jason Taylor trade should be a great benefit to go with Andre Carter on the other side.
What do you skins fans think?

I was at training camp last Sunday and Jason Campbell looked really good. No sign of leg trouble. Strong arm and the usual jazz. I dont know if these guys work extra hard because of the practice being open to the public or not, but they were seriously busting some ass out there. It was 8:30 AM and already HOT as hell. Special teams looked really good too.
Coach Zorn reiterated that rookies would not have Redskins logos on their helmets until they make the team after the fifth preseason game. Under NFL rules, all players will wear helmets with logos during preseason games. But when the next practice begins, those logos will be peeled off the rookies' headgear. "I want these guys to have a sense they have earned something," Zorn said

Like i said if a person shows up like a drunken asshole and starts instigating things then yeah the fans are gonna let you know. But i know the section i sat in before i moved we never had problems with fans as they acted cool, but when dicks would come and stand up and do the first down hand motion everytime and turn and taunt the fans then they get what they deserve
I went to Lincoln Financial to watch the skins eagles game 2 years ago, my brother and i were cool didnt taunt and had no trouble a redskins fan about 12 rows down was acting like a dick and had his hat thrown off the upper deck and soda thrown on him. I was so embarrassed i told the guy he was acting like a dick
Its all how you act

Ive been a season ticket holder for 4 years now and Ive only seen one fight and the Cowboy fan was begging for it. For the most part Skins fans are some of the most humble fans around. On the contrary I have never received more abuse at any stadium in any sport than at Giants Stadium during Giants/Redskins games.

I think if nothing else he has solidified himself as the #3 QB on the roster, its also easy to see why he slipped in the draft. He played in a gimmick offense and he has a side-arm delivery
Its just funny that because he's a sidearm thrower the scouts devalue him

Been a Skins fan all of my life and I am happy that football is back. After the game with Indy the biggest impression I took away was the play of Colt Brennan. He totally blew me away.
Also, I expect the Skins to win alot of games this year. They are probably as close to a complete team since the 90's now and this is going to be a great season.
The running game will determine their success - if Portis keeps up his end of the bargain the pressure will be off Campbell to throw as much.
Hail to the Redskins!

Also, the competition he was passing against was the WAC. Which is just about the farthest thing you can get from a football conference. I mean imagine the difference in quality he saw as to what Jason Campbell would have seen at Auburn.

I wouldnt expect much out of the two rookie WR's this year with Moss and Randle El entrenched as teh starters
I think Fred Davis may have the most impact of the top 3 and to be honest Chad Rinehart will have the most impact for them
The team has looked good though in the first 2 games and Jason Campbell has really looked good out there. I think Zorn may actually be a great coach for the skins he seems no nonsense in his dealings (see his criticisms of Kelly and Thomas as examples)

Wow,
The Skins stink on alot of levels. Jason Campbell has regressed. The O-Line looks like they have never met one another. No control of the line of scrimmage on either side. How many 3 and longs did they give up as a defense ? The primary first contact run defense is the saftey for fucks sake. I know that things can be worked out in the long run, but there should be no delusions about this year. 6-10 maybe 7-9 if we are lucky. I like how Zorn is frank about his player's performance. Kind of refreshing change from JG always taking one for the team on Mondays.

My sunburn has moved into the peeling stage. The heat, the 3.5hr drive from NJ, the $8 beers...all worth it. If the Redskins offense could manage to score touchdowns in the red zone, instead of miss field goals, they could be scary good. They could have beaten the Saints by more than they did. Stephen Davis...I mean Chris Horton came up big. Bring it Arizona!

damn i dont think even google could help answer that
I think the Redskins can shut down TO and Whitten. It will be a matter of getting pressure on Romo. That might be a problem considering the Dallas O Line are monsters. Defensively I think Moss and Cooley could cause some problems, but the O LIne needs to give Campbell time. Portis might have a better game with blitz pickups than yds from scrimmage. Redskins in an upset 27-24 on a late drive by Campbell. GW TD thrown to Yoder.
Now that the wishful thinking segment of the post is over. Back to Earth. The Dallas O Line wins the day and Barber has a strong day.
Redskins still win. I cannot and will not predict Dallas to win.
HTTR. PS Somebody better get Zorn to hatin on these fuckers...A little passion Jimmy, for fucksake.
"I just don't have the animosity yet," said Zorn, who actually has fond memories of breaking into the NFL with Dallas in 1975 as a backup to Roger Staubach. He didn't last long on a team that carried 12 other rookies on its way to the Super Bowl, but he still can't hold a grudge.

Philly a 6.5 point favorite?!?!?!
I would not be shocked if the Skins go into Philly and lay an egg and have a big let down and lose, but they should in no way be a 6.5 pt dog to a team that made Kyle Orton look good. This should be a pick 'em game.
I will take 3-2 with three home games left against NY, DAL and PHI. But 4-1 would be so sweet!

3-2 is great most people had them pegged as 1-4 heading into the bye week.
If they can beat Philly this week, and go into the bye 4-1 would be awesome, especially with the Rams and Browns after the bye.

I just read this post. Great analysis Ogre. I would obviously love to see the Skins win at Philly this weekend, but win or lose they really need to beat St.Louis, Cleveland and Detroit the following 3 weeks. I could easily see everyone in the NFC East going 3-3 against each other. The Redskins actually have an easy schedule outside the NFC East. They MUST beat the shitty teams.

And as far as the media coverage its not a bad thing, i dont think Zorn would allow it to get to their heads as well as some of the team leaders like London Fletcher, or most of the O-Line, or Rock Cartwright would let it happen
I dont see them getting complacent at all
Still Horny for Zorny

Well plan your trips now for 2009 everyone
2009
Home: New Orleans, Tampa Bay, Denver, Kansas City, NFC West (team with matching place in division)
Away: Atlanta, Carolina, Oakland, San Diego, NFC North (team with matching place in division)
and of course the division splits
Much more difficult sched next year in comparison to this year as of right now

Year to year in the NFL turns out not to mean as much as it used to..the NFC North and NFC West are weak year in year out in outside the divison/conference play. AFC West just as little as 3 seasons ago had Denver 13-3 KC 10-6 and SD 9-7 we wont count Oakland with thier perenniel 4 win seasons. That season the AFC west was a collective 8-8 for non conference play. That was the best that divisiion has done in the past 3 years. 2007 the NFC north (minus Green Bay's rediculously skewed record last year) was a collective 6-12 in NFC games outside the division. The NFC South will be the toughy out of this one I think.
As for 2008 wk 5. If Westbrook is near healthy the Eagles will try to spread the field and get to the corners on the Skins D. I think they will play the same type of D on Philly rolling the safety over top to keep everything in front of them (Deshaun Jackson). This will open up that juicy little 5-10 yd section in the middle of the skins D. Marvcus Washington got abused on coverage of Witten last week a couple of times. I think they wil try a faster LB to shade Westbrook this week. The Eagles really do not have a power running game, but the Screens and Swing passes make up for thet getting the RBs the ball in space. Proably one of the better RB screen teams in the NFL.
Offense I think you will see more of what you have been seeing. The Eagles run D is oppressive and the Eagles DBs are pretty good too. I think you will see alot of pressure on Campbell early on to disrupt his timing and tempo. Portis has had some success against the Eagles, but again expect Portis and Betts to contribute in the passing game (blitz pickup) than the rushing totals.
Close game but Philly is alot more desperate than the Skins at this point in the season. They need a division win to keep up.
Toss up game. Team who has the ball last wins on a FG. PS Akers has been unusually
scketchy from beyond 40 yds. Skins 24-23

Im surprised they get New Orleans at home 2 years in a row but ok.
Looks like Westbrook will play tomorrow and Springs will not. No Jason Taylor, no Heyer, and a hurt M.Washington isnt good either. If the Skins can keep the no turnover streak going (knock wood) and win the field position game again they should win. Philly's desperation scares me though.

Also I think with this game the skins are in a way free rolling after beating the cowboys last week. Many thought the skins would be 1-4 after the first 5 so they have already exceeded those expectations.
To be honest i dont see the skins winning this game, it may just be from years and years of watching them blow close games to the eagles ever since that jinx of a coach Norv Turner was hired, but i just see them losing this one in a close game like 26-23 with the eagles scoring on the last drive. I really hope im wrong though

Let me ask you guys this: Do you feel the same way that if Joe Gibbs was the coach (and i give Gibbs a lot of credit for helping to get this thing started) that they would have punted at the end of the game and given up a TD drive to the Eagles to lose?
Zorn has shown that he is a great playcaller and it shows the good move that both Snyder and Cerrato did in picking this guy to be the head coach

I see what you're saying but I think Coach Joe would have gone for it too. After the awful play on 3rd and 1, I was SCREAMING at my TV to go for it on 4th. They should have run that 4th down play on 3rd down and not even been in that situation. What Gibbs would NOT have done is play for points at the end of the first half. It was so great to see Zorn calling plays to get them in field goal range at least. And how HUGE was Shane Squeeze-em yesterday? Gibbs would have run the clock out and never attempted to score. Gibbs is still my hero though.

He didn't score in the Dallas game. That ended a streak of 6 straight games with a TD. He did have about 145 yards though.
Luckily, I didn't need any points from Moss this week. I was able to enjoy the Redskins win and not stress too much about that. Started D'Angelo Williams due to a bye week and Isaac Bruce came through again.

Yeah, Im still ahead with Housh and R. Moss, but Phillip Rivers killed me this week. Glad I sat McNabb though
In his post game presser he stated:
On whether he ( McNabb ) is embarrassed with the loss: "I was embarrassed these last two weeks. I mean to two teams we shouldn't have lost to. When you make mistakes and you don't capitalize on opportunities things like this happen. There is no way that you can look at this game and say that, and not taking anything anyway from them, but there is no way that this team is better than us. The same went for last week and then you find yourself here wondering why. It's going to be a week in which you got to look at yourself and not look at anybody else. You have to ask yourself, 'Did you do the job?,' and sometimes you have to go through that process. It's better that you go through it now, but there's no reason for us to be going through that right now."

I dont like that at all, however, the Skins have zero RBs on thier practice squad. Lookin kinda stupid for cutting Marcus Mason at the beginning of the season. He is now tucked away on the Ravens practice squad. The part I do not like is that when Betts comes back is he going to be #2 again ? Just don't like the puss Alexander:nono: He is the exact opposite of Portis or Betts. Alexander's trademark is slow to the hole pitty patter feet, all shuckin and jivin, while running for the sidelines. Portis might pick and choose his hole but he hits it hard when he goes and LIKES contact. Betts is even quicker to the hole. Bad things maaan....Bad things...

The only positive is that Alexander knows the Redskins/Jim Zorn offense from his time in Seattle, so he can step in right away, and who knows if healthy he can be a good alternative to Portis on some plays. And lets face it Portis is going to carry the load no matter what its not like they are bringing in Alexander to be the starter

And people criticize the skins draft but once Devin Thomas gets the Offense down he will be the guy they can go to in the Red Zone in the end zone for jump balls instead of having to rely on the WR screen.

guys the vote off is easy
just post once a day in it and say
+ redskins
- (your team of choice but i recommend some of the teams without support so we dont have an organized vote off against the redskins)
I am glad that three game stretch is done. Folks that have followed the Skins know they have an uncanny knack for playing to the level of thier opponent. Up or down, the only squads that ever truly handled an opponent were the '83 and '91 teams. The '83 team was a juggarnaught until halftime of the NFC Championship game against the Niners. We all remember the fateful January evening in Tampa that followed. Damn you Jack Squirek.
Point is that now more than ever there is parity in the NFL and I do not think you will see one blowout win by this team all year as it compiles 11 wins this year. As close as this team was to 7-1 at the half post, it was equally as close to attaining a 3-5 mark. With the NFL season being 20+ games long is is somewhat of a dichotomy. One it is a long marathon that incredible late runs can propel a team into the post season. Two each game is so precious in it's result because there are only 16 that count towards the second season, with each divisional and conference game weighing in with such an impact they all seem like must wins.
When the Skins were 4-1, everyone in the media seemed to assume that the games against the Rams, Browns and Lions would be decided handily by the Redskins. Well it didn't turn out that way. However, I believe that the loss to the Rams was the wake-up call that this team required to remain just enough above average week in and week out.
Above average is what this league seems to be this year. Play B+ ball and you just might go places son. One nail-biter at a time this team will go 5-3 the rest of the season and will finish 11-5. I think anyone that says they saw this coming is a big LIAR LIAR PANTS ON FIRE. (see Fez Whatley on an unrelated movie bet).
Anyway I love my Redskins and invite anyone going to the Dallas game to my tailgate. If you are planning to attend please PM and we will hook up. Ribs, Suds and we will be playing cornhole (http://www.playcornhole.org/how.shtml) too. We will be there early as the game does not kick off till late.
Pittsburgh looks tough but if no Willie Parker and the D can generate some kind of rush on Rothleswaffle then I think they could be linited to 13 or so. Question is can the Skins muster 14 ?
As a side note I'd pay money to see ol' concrete loafers Big Ben on Dancing with the Stars. I had a welfare case lazy uncle that moved faster than him. Just Sayin'

I was at the game Monday and it may have been the most embarrasing game Ive ever been to. Not because of the way they played or the fact that we got our asses kicked on Monday Night Football, but simply because FedEx was LOADED with steeler fans. It was disgusting. WAY worse than Dallas games...which tend to have a lot of Cowboy fans in the house. I wish ownership could somehow ban season ticket holders from selling to opposing fans. It was truly ridiculous.

I stayed at Giants stadium hours after games too, but it was sitting in the car, waiting in line to get out of that cluster fuck of a place (before the renovations too).
The no-tailgating without a ticket rule is probably because of the limited space, but if you want to get there early and get a spot to hang and grill and drink at, they should let you, without having to spend 85 bucks on a ticket.

Redskins sign DeAngelo Hall to 1 year deal: http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3688600
Good signing. Cheap and he can play nickelback with Shawn Springs perpetually injured. He will be just a small piece of an already solid defense and won't be asked to do too much with Smoot and Rogers already in place.

Can he still return punts and kicks? If so, thats where the Skins need him most. Randle El has been awful and Santana pulled a hamstring on his big TD return the other week. Hopefull Hall can add a spark to the return game.

ASSHOLE! (http://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/football/bal-sp.nflnotes12nov12002040,0,7848309.story)
"I called Joe Gibbs a coward for leaving," Arrington said in the interview. "You came in, you made some money for your NASCAR team. No one else is going to say that. I'm sure more people thought I was a [jerk] for saying that. Joe wouldn't call me because he knows."
Gibbs wasn't a coward. He did a decent job for a few years, then moved on, when he realized he had done all he could do. I hated Lavar when he left. Not that he left, but how he kept saying he was totally dedicated to the Skins when he was here. He talked like he wouldn't play at all, if he couldn't play for them. Then, as soon as he left, he said he always hated them.

I think LaVar means Gibbs didn't stand up to Dan Snyder and that made him a coward. I was always of the opinion that LaVar being 'benched' in his last season was from the top down, Snyder wanted to dump him for salary reasons, but couldn't because he was so popular.
The original article from the Times actually states that LaVar and Gregg Williams have no issues at all anymore. And Williams was his biggest critic during the whole ordeal. Now that he's not trying to inherit the HC job after Gibbs left he doesn't have to bow down to Sndyer.
I suggest you read the FULL arictle, which gives context to all the quotes. Sounds a little harsh in just sound bites. But the full article is very interesting. He says he still loves the team because of the fans, but not because of Sndyer...

Yeah I get you, at least they did not waste a 3rd rounder on him....see: T J Duckett. Still never got over that knee jerk move. That waste became the 3rd rounder for Denver which became Ryan Harris starting at O Tackle this year. Last time I looked Jansen was getting torched in pass protection. Forgive me for being cynical but the past "big name" free agent tomfoolery has shown a host of wash outs (see: Adam Archuletta) has beens (see: Bruce Smith) and never was (see: Brandon Lloyd). Not to mention fucksticks like Deion Sanders. Too bad Rodney Harrison is all washed up.

snyder has not made many very wise moves

Yes and that was Gibbs doing. His first and best move during JG redux . He got his stud running back, and solved the problem of the very poorly handled Champ Bailey contract negotiations. JG's second stroke of free agency genius was flying down to Jax to trade for a QB that they were ready to cut. Mark Brunell. Nice chap, noodle arm by the time the Skins inked him. That was the same year Shawn Springs and Cornelius Griffin signed.
In 2006 that was the bumper crop that brought us the Jitterbug ( Antwaan Randle EL ) the Skins paid him as though they were getting Kal-El. Lest we not forget the aforementioned Arch Deluxe and B. Lloyd, One had concrete loafers the other manos de piedra. Christian Fauria and Andre Carter. Fauria was 34 at the time and Carter is the only one who has come close to living up to his contract of $ 30 million and he is too small to close down the edges. In all $45 million in garunteed money for the 2006 class. :wallbash: 2007 brought in London Fletcher and brought back Fred Smoot so they actually good moves but as with Fletcher the Skins cannot resist big names sometimes. In 08 Jason Taylor was a throwback move to the days that brought you Bruce Smith, Andre Reed, Jeff George, Neon Deion, Jeff Hall, Chad Morton, Jeremiah Trotter (always liked him), and last but not least Trung Canidate we hardly knew ye. I just wish these guys would try and build through the draft especially in the interior line where true talent is hard to find and replace, see: Derrick Dockery.
If you would have told me at the beginning of the season that the Skins would be 7-4 at this point I would have been happy. This is a glass half full year but they need to think about the Portis window I think he has 3 good years left in him as hard as he runs. A pass rush would solve much of what ails theses Skins.
Oh yeah Happy Thanksgiving everybody !!!

Yeah the Giants look like a good bet to repeat as NFC Champs and have already TCB against the Stillers at Hienz. The only other team that matches up with them are the Flaming Thumbtacks and they will probably have AFC home field advantage locked up with 2 more wins.
Since Dec 02, 2007 the Giants are 18-3 with a Championship. Not much more to say there.
As for the Skins. The difference between these two teams was never more evident than on Sunday. Giants receivers came through when thier QB needed a play, the Redskins did not. The Giants controlled the line play from both sides of scrimmage.
They chose to go wideout in last year's draft, ignoring the interior of both sides of the ball. The Skins don't sack and are struggling in pass protection this season. The Redskins better hope Kelly, Thomas and Davis produce or they will set the franchise even father back than drafting this bumblefuck did.

My favourite Shuler story was after his long holdout as a rookie, he finally comes into camp, and just starts winging INTs all over the place. One of the linemen takes off his helmet, looks around and says something like "Fellas....we in trouble"

He is the greatest Redskin I ever met in Hawaii when I was 6 years old.
But not the greatest Redskin I ever met in Hawaii: that would be Brian Mitchell, then Matt Turk, then Jay Schroeder.
At least they traded Schroeder for Big Jim Lachey. That was good for a Super Bowl.

I too have anger when thinking of how MY team cant get their shit together AGAIN! With Santana, Cooley, Randle El, and the new rookie recievers - no body can get open when they need it? Unfucking believable.
Campbell was the talk of the football nation earlier in the year - no INT's - great passer rating etc. then the wheels fell off. What happened? Every game is so damn stressful - they cant get ahead enough to keep from losing in the 4th quarter -EVERY GAME! I get so pissed when they get in scoring position and screw around like they want to settle for another field goal. this has happened year after year after year. Is this the by product of trading draft picks away in free agency? Is the learning curve for our rookie recievers longer for players in the NFC East? i am so tired of being a die hard Redskins fan. Even though they are out of the playoffs i even went on Paltalk and watched the game in the Ron/Fez room. They are killing me and yet, I cant quit them. My sanity is hanging on by a cunt hair. Please David Snyder - make something happen - I dont know how many more years of mediocrity I can take!

I feel your pain. But it's Dan(iel) Snyder, not David.
Randle El is a #3 receiver that they paid big money to, and expect him to be a second receiver, even though he has never shown that ability. He is an atrocious punt returner.
Both rookie receivers started the year injured, so undoubtedly, the learning curve is longer. Time will tell if they were bad picks or not. Certainly not good picks for helping out here and now.
The draft has suffered with the build by free agency model adopted by Snyder and Cerrato. However, they saved their picks last year, and traded for some more. Definitely a smart change in course, as the free agency route wasn't working. However, Cerrato's talent evaluation abilities are highly questionable. Bobby Beathard or Charley Casserly, he is not.
The Redskins early success this year was a surprise. I think that the league has adjusted to Zorn's offense. The book on Campbell is blitz him, blitz him, blitz him. We need to have receivers that can make them pay, beyond just Moss, and an O-Line that can give Campbell just a little time to throw.

Ya think? I believe they said it during the game last Sunday but Davis, Thomas and Kelly combined for 19 receptions and something like 275 yards all season. The Skins went after all of these guys expecting an immediate contribution. Meanwhile Philly got DeSean Jackson. I still have hope for all 3 of those rookies but they all had injured/pathetic rookie seasons.
In all honesty though, if the Redskins had managed to beat the Rams (2-13) or the Bengals (3-11-1) they would be in the playoffs. Those two losses were just unacceptable and devastating. If you look at the other teams the Redskins lost to (GiantsX2, Steelers, Ravens, Cowboys) you cant be too upset. I would not be shocked to see any of those teams win the superbowl. It would have been nice to at least compete in the losses to the good teams, but losing to 2 of the worst teams in football cost the Redskins the playoffs.

Why was it a surprise? Or why did they adjust to Zorn's offense?
Zorn was a first year head coach. Never even a full-time play caller. To take a QB coach and thrust him into the head coaching position of a team that was lucky to make the playoffs the year before, not exactly a recipe for success. Plus Campbell was still a HUGE question mark, as he was injured when Collins lead them to the playoffs. What had Campbell proven before this season?
I live in Washington, and you could not find a serious prognosticator picking them better than 8-8 or 9-7 at the start of the season. After the Giants loss, I would dare say you couldn't find one that was saying above 6-10.
So, 6-2, with road wins over Dallas and Philly, and a win against a decently well-regarded Saints team, yes, I would consider that a surprise.

It was Cerrato and by extension, his handler Dan Snyder that agreed to give up those draft picks to trade for him. If you were so concerned with Taylor attending optional offseason workout sessions, maybe you should have asked to rewrite the contract before you signed him.
Just another case of the Cerrato-Snyder pact making a move in a vain attempt to save face. Remember when Cerrato cut Derrick Frost last season so that his draft pick punter could play? How did that work out? Way to buy into it. Now go out and get your Redskins credit card, so you can purchase your season tickets.

Theyre not even worth starting a new thread. Fuck em. Worst shit Ive seen in 29 years of personal existence. Is it me or are their losses somehow worse than a loss? They lose with zero dignity. They were good when I was 11 fucking years old but in my entire adult life they have been worthless. Nearly every other NFL team has been relevant in that 18yr span. The skins have been perpetually mediocre....mediocre to awful.
FedEx is getting more and more empty and I can say with 100% certainty I will not be renewing my season tickets. Last week vs the Bucs the place was empty. Enough already. The Redskins suck. And the Redskins have sucked for 18 years. And the Redskins will continue to suck as long as Snyder is hiring people. Motherfuck!
Not that I thought the skins were going anywhere this year but watching this shit every week is painful. Especially when I live in the land of the fucking Giants. I want Zorn, Campbell and Snyder sent to Abu Grhaib immediately.

Or maybe scramble when the downfield options arent there and keep the defense on their toes that way? How bout that? No, he'd rather dump it off to his fifth option and gain 5yds on a 3rd and 6. Fuck it. Bench him. Collins or Brennan could have gotten the skins to 2-3 anyway.
If theyre gonna suck then they should suck hard. Id almost prefer a 2-14 year to another 6-10 or 8-8 or 9-7. Its more embarassing to have talent and not know how to use it than it is to just utterly blow.

Zorn hasn't been fired yet, but he's not calling the plays anymore.
Landover, MD (Sports Network) - Washington Redskins head coach Jim Zorn will not have playcalling duties, it was decided after the team's 14-6 loss to Kansas City on Sunday.
The decision was made after Zorn met with Vinny Cerrato, the Redskins' executive vice president of football operations, after the loss. Cerrato thought Zorn had too many responsibilities as head coach, and Zorn agreed with the decision.
The team is expected to decide on a new playcaller Monday.
The Redskins' offense has struggled this season, averaging just 13.2 points per game -- the fourth-worst amount in the NFL. Washington, which is 2-4, has accumulated that figure while playing mostly below-average teams, as each of the Redskins' opponents this season did not have a win at the time they played Washington.
I doubt it will make much difference.
