How are the Redskins like possums?
They play dead at home and get killed on the road.
How do you keep a Redskin off of your lawn?
Put up a goal post in your yard.

Mike Shanahan Turned Down Redskins Coaching Job (http://nfl.fanhouse.com/2009/10/19/sources-mike-shanahan-turned-down-redskins-coaching-job/?ncid=txtlnkusspor00000002&eref=si_nfl)
"Shanahan told the franchise there was little he could do in the middle of the season for them and that changing coaches during the season in the NFL rarely works,'' a Redskins management source told FanHouse. "Several people that Dan Snyder trusts have suggested, if he makes a move, he should turn it over to secondary coach Jerry Gray. That could still happen.
I agree that it doesn't help to get a permanent replacement mid season. I don't know much about Gray, but he can't do any worse than Zorn for the rest of the season.

Because the Washington Redskins are unable to get back to their winning tradition, Dan Snyder and Vinny Ceratto have been made scapegoats by the media and fans who can’t leave the 80’s.

Look I dont agree with everything they do
I dont like Cerrato
But Snyder as an owner has raised ticket prices twice. he does not charge PSL's like most of the owners. He's blamed for a stadium that Jack Kent Cooke built.
He's also vilified for his big deals like the media reports the Haynesworth deal as $100 million when its really a 4 year $48 million deal for one of the top 5 DL's in the league.
I dont think Shannahan would work anyway because he wants total control.
I can see Ron Wolf and Holmgren happening though.
i also think the media is jealous that at dan snyders age he owns the most valuable sports franchise (maybe the cowboys are in front now) and they hate he is that rich at such a young age.
With that said they are dreadful, they are not playing well, Jason Campbell is clearly not the answer
And the way that Cerrato/Snyder have handled the Jim Zorn situation has been totally in the wrong on their part.
Oh yeah Brian Orakpo is a freaking stud

When Brian Mitchell actually had a show in DC, he basically said that, this isnt the superbowl teams of the 80's and 90's and that is Dan Snyders fault and no players will ever live up to Joe T, or the Hogs, or the Fun Bunch/Smurfs, Monk/Clark/Sanders combo, or Riggins with the most iconic play in all superbowls

So fans should just be happy they have a team, even if they are dogshit? Win a Super Bowl and see how quickly they get over it.

agreed. today's players have no heart at all. I think I can count on one hand the number of players who have character & heart on the redskins. London Fletcher is one of them.

And what's so fucking disingenuous about this is that everyone knows they offered Shanahan the job a couple of weeks ago and he told them to go fuck themselves.
They're pretending Zorn's their man because they know they're stuck with him until the end of the season. But if Lil' Danny thinks that he can land a Shanahan or a Cowher or a coach of that caliber, I think he's sadly mistaken.
How did this guy get to be so rich, anyway? I know he made his fortune in "direct marketing", whatever the fuck that is, but not only are the Redskins a clusterfuck, his purchase of Six Flags has been about as epic a disaster too.

They have a lot of guys that have character and heart:
Clinton Portis, Cornelius Griffin, Chris Samuels, Andre Carter, Phillip Daniels to name just a few
And people can complain but let me tell you if you watch the redskins you would know why they took the playcalling away from Zorn, I actually turned to my brother last week after the long portis run and said no way they score a TD, and also talked about knowing how people must have felt watching the Browns vs. Bills game
Their Defense is legit, I really think that Snyder is hoping for an uncapped year, because they will cut Chris Samuels and Portis, Randle El is gone after this year as well and Casey Rabach.
The O-line is bad but can anyone really complain about them taking Orakpo in the draft instead of Oher? And i believe in the 2nd round a lineman wasnt taken until 12 slots after when the skins would have picked had they not traded for Jason Taylor.
I remember when the snyder first bought the team he tried to get Ron Wolf to be the GM but he had just left the packers.
My bet is that next year Mike Holmgren is the coach and Ron Wolf is the GM (and as much as it pains me to say it as i hated him with the Ravens) but Brian Billick would also be a good choice as coach that guy when you listen to him knows football

Holmgren is entirely possible, but Ron Wolf? He's 71 years old, there is no way he wants to move to DC to fix that mess.

Like i said, i think when Snyder first bought the team he wanted to bring in Wolf and he would possibly even be a mentor and help Holmgren out.
Bottom line unless they get rid of Cerrato and hire a real GM and improe the scouting department it could be trouble.
I could also see the redskins bringing in Gary Kubiak of Houston to be the next head coach.

Like i said i despised the guy, but the man knows football and more important he knows offense. And i think he like schottenheimer when he was here would stand up to Snyder and let it be known the way things would be the way he wants them.
If they dont get serious, i see this franchise in a lot of trouble for the next few years

Last time they had 90,000 was the home opener. I have a hard time even giving my season tickets away this year. The seats may be paid for but nobody is sitting in them....so Danny's happy. The saddest thing is that this ego-maniacal baby bitch is only in his 40s. Snyder could conceivably hold this team hostage for another 35-40 years.
They need someone with a plan.
That someone is me.
GM for a day:
If next year IS a cap year then it is my understanding that by releasing Portis by next June, that would translate to a $14 million dollar cap hit. It is my impression that CP has probably played his last game with the Skins will probably arrive at an injury settlement with him. He might retire.
If 2010 is an uncapped year, then many of the high priced veterans from around the league will be looking for work. There are many like Portis that have an untenable cap number if a team wished to release them. Very Comfy. Their new place of employment will be at a much lower salary. They should all be looked at, however, it would not be a stretch to think that The Danny would overpay here too.
So there will be plenty of upcoming opportunity to add some veteran DBs and Safety help for a suspect secondary. The Defense as a whole could benefit from a veteran FA or two, plugging holes that will be there this off season C Griffin and Phillip Daniels come to mind. Great players but they are getting up there in years.
So the focus of course shifts to the obvious. The Offensive Line and Running Backs. The line has been suspect since last August, but as usual Joe Bugel has worked his craft. His bubblegum and Ban-Aid O Line is finally playing with some cohesion.
So here it is
Trade Down to get more picks later (no pick in round 3 or 6) With the first round you target one of these two guys in what is a weak O-Line draft class:
OT Russell Okung, OK State
OG Jon Asamoah, Illinois
Then in Round 2 you address the RB situation.
Round 4 O Line
Round 5 LB
Round 7 DB
Now here is how Danny and Vinny will do it
1 Jimmy Clausen QB ND
2 Golden Tate WR ND
4 Tim Tebow QB FLA
5 Desmond Howard KR Mich
7 Russell Erxleben K Texas
AND after talking with Mike Ditka on the hotline they trade ALL of next years picks for:
DT Ndamukong Suh, 6' 4" 302 lbs. Nebraska
They're smart like that.
So fans should just be happy they have a team, even if they are dogshit? Win a Super Bowl and see how quickly they get over it.
The reason your fansbase talks about those guys is because they were great, and what youve had since has been complete garbage.
Yeah but it's OUR Garbage thank you very kindly.

A graphic designer took a stab at redesigning the Redskins helmet because he felt it was one of the worst ones in the NFL.
I was surprised, because as much as I hate the name of the team, I've always thought the 'Skins had one of the best looking helmets.

He said their helmets looked terrible on TV so he took a stab at redesigning them as well.

Interesting take from the Washington Post's Mike Wise that it was a big "fuck you" from Zorn to ownership/management: With one trick play, Redskins Coach Jim Zorn shows defiance (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/12/22/AR2009122200117.html)
One of the longest seasons in recent memory. Jim Zorn couldn't coach a hooker out of her knickers. Blache isn't much better. I don't know what's softer, the umbrella zone he coaches or the soft spot on his head. On top of all of that.... Dallas looks great. Dark days my friends, dark days.
Redskins owner Daniel M. Snyder has issued the following statement on the firing of Coach Jim Zorn, via the team's media relations staff:
"This has been an extremely difficult season for our organization and for the fans. Bruce Allen spent many hours examining the football operations, and we are both determined to do whatever it takes to build a championship team. That process begins today.
"No one in the organization is satisfied with our record over the last two years, and I am sure that Jim would concur with that statement. It has been painful for him too. I certainly accept responsibility for mistakes that I have made. I am hopeful that our fans will accept my commitment and pledge to deliver a franchise that can compete in the NFC East every season.
"Finally, I am mindful that this is a tough day for Jim and his family, and I do want to wish him success in his next endeavor."

We are better off today than we were yesterday. First move - work on getting a different QB that throws and makes decisions quicker. Sorry Campbell, you are just too slow when making your reads and executing. Santana Moss is open almost every time but you fail to get the ball to him in time - great as a back up in the NFL but not a starter. As a Redskins fan, we have not had a quality QB in such a long time.
Here is the damn problem - look at this list of Qb's to play in DC since 1993 - Mark Rypien, Rich Gannon, Cary Conklin, Heath Shuler, John Friesz, Gus Frerotte, Jeff Hostetler, Trent Green, Brad Johnson, Jeff George, Tony Banks, Shane Matthews, Patrick Ramsey, Danny Wuerffel, Sage Rosenfels, Tim Hasselbeck, Mark Brunell and Jason Campbell.
Most of the few recognizable names on this list were washed up veterans - Gannon, George, Hostetler, Johnson. This is the biggest problem - not Dan Snyder, we need a dynasty QB - like other successful teams have had - Manning(s), Brady, Favre, Rothlisberger etc.....
BTW... my favorite was Rypien - got the job done.

But, I cant stand the attitude of Haynesworth and others that get paid huge sums of money to play and then complain about everything - Snyder was forewarned about Haynesworth's attitude before signing him so wadda gonna do?
