I am going to see Wilco on August 7th. I have seen them many times but not on this tour. Can anyone tell me what to expect?

Wrong crowd. Wilco is more of your younger, white collar hippies.

Wilco isn't emo. I mean, sure, maybe some fringe emo kids are into them. I dunno.

I'd consider Wilco part of the alt-country scene. If there is a scene. I have no idea. I'm middle aged.

I bet you're going to see a pretty awesome show! I'm jealous! Wilco is a GREAT band.

If you haven't already seen it, I'd rent I am Trying to Break Your Heart. It's about the trials and tribulations of getting Yankee Hotel Foxtrot made and distributed.

I have seen Wilco 6 or 7 times, but not recently. I was just curious about the set list. My favorite show was in Central Park about 6 years ago. Wilco played with Sonic Youth.

Last time I saw them , there were more kindergarten kids than emo kids. Seriously, there were a lot of older hipster parents with their children.

Still, a great show. They kick ass live

Really?

All the Wilco shows i've been to, the crowd has been filled with middle-aged losers who are acting like 13 year old shitheads.

with the last few albums, tweedy's forced falsetto can be a bit whiny

I was there with ESD and West Side...Also in attendance was TooCute and the Chairman.

I saw them last summer at the Hammerstein Ballroom in NYC and I'm going to see them in a couple weeks at McCarren Pool in Brooklyn...Expect to be thoroughly impressed by Glenn Kotche and Nels Cline...The two greatest additions to the band...closely followed by journeyman, Pat Sansone. You will be quite impressed with the band...they are all in great moods these days and the music is really alive on stage.

This tour is the shit. I just got my Sky Blue Sky Vinyl from UPS today...Can't wait to spin that fucker.

Oh, I'll agree that Wilco is not emo by any means. But they seem to attract that emo/hipster/scene crowd. And Bob was just asking what he should expect to see there. So I figured, fair warning.

I saw them very early in this tour and they were nothing short of tremendous. I've seen the band a number of times and this was the tightest I've seen them musically. Their set (http://wilcobase.com/event.php?event_key=1063)was more diverse than it's ever been.

Not a bad band. I just have trouble differentiating them from their competition I guess. The other bands that play the same type of music. What I've heard I do like though, but I don't any albums and I don't think I'll be buying one soon.

I can't think of one band to compare then to stylistically. They've gone from country, to alt country, to pop, to experimental, to Americana rock 'n roll. Maybe Radiohead in that regard.

I've seen them a bunch of times, haven't heard much of Mermaid Avenue or Being There live. The times I did was before I was real familiar with that work. Can honestly say i've never seen anyone who could be considered an emo kid at one of their shows. Middle aged, preppy douches, sure.

Still haven't forgiven myself for not getting tickets for the show at McCarren Pool on the 13th. I'm inconsolable.

I'm going to the Brooklyn show next week too.

As for the crowd, I couldn't, nor would, "label" them anything. Mostly cool fans with a few assholes thrown in, just like any other concert.

Well, it's more a trouble of finding a sound that I can actually apply to them. It's cool I that all their songs don't sound the same or something, but I think it's important for band to have a "sound."

It's important for me, that was all IMO. I'm not making a dissertation on the music industry on anything. I've just had trouble identifying a sound that truly belongs to Wilco. It's not really a knock or a pat on the back either way, I was just voicing my opinion.

I'm just having trouble understanding your thought process..I'm not knocking your opinion of course.

I just can't understand why you would have be able to categorize a band before becoming a fan. Either you like it our you don't. Putting a band in a category shouldn't be a reason why you would or wouldn't like them.

I would say this for any music...Not just Wilco. I'm not a music nazi, it's the music I like and I don't mind if other people like them or not.

The thing about Wilco is that they aren't easy to categorize as they seem to really evolve from album-to-album. The difference from A.M. to Yankee Hotel Foxtrot is stark in my opinion.

Agreed. That wasn't any point of dispute. They keep changing, which is what I like so much about them. They aren't say (Tom Petty) who refuses to change one damn thing about his Bob Dylan sounding ass.

I went to the Wilco show in Charleston last night. Their set included songs from every record but A M. The crowd was both attractive and enthusiastic. I can understand why Dr. Z doesn't think he would fit in with this scene.
