This team seems ripe for a complete meltdown. My predictions are as follows:

1) Shawn Andrews pulls a Ricky Williams, and calls a press conference to announce he's retiring from football, grows a patchy beard, and smokes pot with a sherpa for the next two years.

2) Jerome McDougle (yes, he's still around) wins the starting DE job by default, and posts a big 0.5 sack total in 16 games played.

3) Donovan McNabb plays a good season, and exits town at the end of the year with both middle fingers flying.

4) The Eagles rework Brian Westbrook's contract, and he tears his ACL in Game #2 this season.

Here's to the window being officially closed! Hooray!!

P.S: Kevin Kolb is the next Dave Klingler

Slow down with those lofty expectations K.C

I'd have set the over/under for L.J. Smith injuries at six, too, but I was trying to be optimistic.

The only shot this team has to contend is if McNabb has a MVP season. I'm still a big McNabb fan, but I don't really see that. I think he'll have a good season, maybe even a Pro Bowl season, but I think there will be a lot of games where the analysis is "McNabb, despite playing well, couldn't quite overcome the team's other deficiencies."

theyve never really solved the wr issue

the one year they did .... super bowl

its like a reverse marino gimmick good rb no wr's to take the pressure off

I have been very optimistic, which is unlike an Eagle's fan, for the past four years.

This year will suck balls. Write it on a rock.

And let Andy's kid smoke it.

I like this DeSean Jackson strategy. Keep on drafting smaller and smaller WRs so they have an easier time catching balls thrown at their feet on crossing routes.

I wish Fatso and managment will be taken out by snipers. This team was assembled by assholes. Week up front, no wr's, and every play run through an undersized (yet great) running back. McNabb will always bring some great play then throw 3 picks. He gets hit more than almost every other QB and has to pull Eli Manning magic on a 3rd down during week 4 just to move the chains. Akers is falling off, and Kolb is not the next QB.

Prediction: 4-12 and me and the other idiot Eagle fans rolling our eyes after Andy Reid's first bad call in the first quarter

As a redskins fan i would love to see that happen, but i think the Eagles may actually have a decent year, i think McNabb is going to have a huge year (hes way undervalued in fantasy, thats why i am targetting him as a 4th rounder). Andy Reid is a good coach and with the crap with his family behind him he should be able to devote all of his attention to the team. And if just one of their WR's step up this team could be in the mix in the ultra competitive NFC East

And seeing Eagles posts makes me miss: McNabbshoulddie

On paper, the Eagles have arguably the best secondary in the league. I am most excited about seeing them work, but also worried about our front lines.

As far as the offense, I'm still suspect of the wide receivers they have. McNabb looks like he is in great shape though. Excited about seeing him work this year.

Special teams better improve.

Are you serious? He's a little on the side of the house(maybe a lot), but we should feel lucky to have such a great voice broadcasting the games. I qualify this by saying that Mike Quick is awful, but he's so bad he's good. "Merill, that's the Matt Blatt, splat of the game".....just horrible.

K.C.
08-05-2008, 09:02 AM
Yeah, I have to say Merrill's still pretty sharp.

It's a bit of shame, because I think Harry Kalas does the radio broadcasts for the Atlanta Falcons, or something. It'd have been nice to work him in to the Eagles, too, but Merrill's been there so long, he's kind of become the voice of the team.

Mike Quick is abysmal.

Wow, I don't know if anyone just heard the interview Mike Missanelli did with Shawn Andrews on 950, but he sounds like he's pretty fucked up as far as his mental state goes.

I feel really bad for the guy. It sounds like he's going through hell.

Based on that, I have a hard time believing he's going to play football this year.

And there was kind of suggestions in it that he just may not want to play anymore. He kept alluding to how he was a fat kid who got made fun of when he was little, and his 6th grade coach pushed him into football because of his size, when he wanted to play music...it just kind of sounds like he's going through a complete crisis in terms of the retrospective on his life.

Wha happened? What he say?

K.C.
08-05-2008, 12:15 PM
Wha happened? What he say?

He said he's been on medication for less than a week, and he's going to see his doctor tomorrow, or the next day, to see if his doctor thinks it's ok for him to play football.

He kind of straddled the fence when Mike asked him if he wanted to play football. He would sort of say yes, that he did, but then qualify with the statement that his mental health is more important to him than anything, including the money.

If you heard him, though, it sounds like there's no chance of him coming back any time soon.

It sounds like he has severe depression. He kind of even alluded to the fact that had he not gotten help, he could have seriously hurt or killed himself (the phrase he used was 'Shawn Andrews was headed for a brick wall').

I'm sorry, but I just don't see us getting ahead of the Cowboys this year. SI is a fuckhole.

This could be perhaps the worst recieving corps we've rolled out in quite some time. And the Shawn Andrews thing is a mess, and I don't think McNabb and Westbrook both make it through without injuries, and if one goes down, that's it. No Ty Detmer or Jeff Garcia to bail us out.

How fucking bad is it that I'm waxing poetic about Ty Detmer?

Let me put it this way...it would not shock me if they won the division. Dallas is obviously good, but there's also some huge overhyping of that team going on.

But I don't see any chance of them doing anything if they made it to the playoffs.

Super Bowl seems like crazy talk at this point.

I agree that they are overhyped to the point they are being labeled as one of the best Dallas teams in history, which is laughable. But they are still too damn talented to not win the division.

And I type this through clenched teeth, for my hatred of Dallas runs very deep.

There's enough talent there to pull it off, but there's too many things that would have to go perfectly right.

Caught some of the game in-between innings of the baseball game.

While any team beating another NFL team 38-3 is impressive....let's face it, the Rams may be the worst team in the NFL this year.

That said, what I liked of what I saw:
-Donovan was crisp.
-DeSean Jackson continues took look awesome.
-L.J. actually showed up!!!!

We'll get a much better feel of how real, or how far off the pace this team is next week.

Next week is the test. Cowboys killed Cleveland but Cleveland could not cover a old lady in a wheel chair.

Eagles looked good. McNabb was sharp..only threw two WTF passes. Westbrook is Westbrook...Jackson looked damn good. Just wish Reid would stop using Jackson for Punt returns, they need a heathly WR and he is it. The defence looked good too. No major mistakes and no one left wide open on the Rams. I think the Eagles defense line will get to Romo. They will cover TO...the one that sort of scares me is Witten. He seams to be always open and hard to take down.

If the Eagles defense looks sharp and get to Romo..Eagles will win. McNabb makes no major mistakes..Eagles will win.

Either way it should be a good game. Just hate Monday Night games..too long..too many commercial and goes over too late.

Well, as a Skins fan, you'd lose against these Eagles every day.

Donovan didn't call that stupid hook and ladder, and the only other thing he could have done on the sack play was throw it away.

The one bad decision he made was he should have pulled it down and ran on the first play of that final drive instead of forcing it in to Avant.

Other than that, he was fantastic.

Also, I said the 4th quarter Eagles. McNabb did play like shit in the 4th. The fumble, not tucking and running for the first, and then getting sacked on 3rd down on the last drive were all his fault. That's three bad, game changing decisions. Other than that, I agree he was fantastic.

THE DEFENSE ALLOWED 41 FUCKING POINTS!

B Dawk was off his game. I know he's getting old, but he seemed a step behind all night. The line was getting decent penetration, but every time the ball left Romo's hand it seemed there was a guy wide open.

I still think they looked great, and if they could get a couple stops, the game was a cake walk.

Regardless, the NFC East has three of the best teams in the NFL in it right now. This should be interesting.

Damn Disappointed game. If not for that fumble in the 4th, I think the Eagles would of won...DAMN DAMN DAMN IT.

Disappointing defense..giving up 41 points....McNabb looked good. Only had 3 WTF passes. He was throwing some bullets in the game. Westbrook is Westbrook...the best player in the game today.

Only thing that really pissed me off was at the end of the game. The plays Andy Reid called in the last drive... Why not use Westbrook more at the end and maybe send Jackson long. The Cowboys lost 2 starting defense backs during the game. Take a chance deep. Jesus.

If the defense does not tighten up and stop giving up the points, against anyone the Eagles are going to be in trouble. Keep protecting McNabb and get Westbrook involved more, especially when it comes to the end and they need to score.

Big weekend this week, Pittsburg is tough, but Roethlisberger is hurt. Again this is another big test weekend. Season not over yet, but if we don't beat the tough teams then why even make the playoffs.

First off, the Eagles offense look solid for the most part. I will still take McNabb over 98% of the QB's. Remember he could have been MVP that Super Bowl year. And why is that? He had a fucking WR. The defense giving up 41 fucking scares me. I know Romo and T.O had something to prove but thats why the Iggs have 3 pro bowl players in the secondary. Not too concerned though, no 1 and 2 wr, at Dallas, this early and lose close. We have seen worse from this disappointment of a fucking franchise.

Ok secondly, what the fuck did Diablo call Dawkins?

What the Hell happened? What excuse are they going to have after this loss? McNabb played well, no interceptions, no real WTF passes, Defense had everyone, Number 1 against the run.. Westbrook was in, except for the 2nd quarter, Yet THEY DID NOTHING AFTER THE 1st QUARTER.

JESUS...Need to change the coaching. Either stop Andy Reid from calling the plays or get that fat walrus ass OUT. What the hell was that run 3rd down 2 yards from Touchdown. I can't stand this.....also can we get some god damn receivers who when the ball is thrown into your hands you do something..something called..CATCH IT!

Past 3 games, play great first 15 plays after that..DEAD..Nothing. If it was not for the defense they would of lost against the Steelers.
I really believe that this season is almost over, McNabb will be done as the starter(Not because of his performance just he is getting up in age and he is getting hurt almost every year) and I have to look forward to 2 years in the bottom of the division, so this damn team can do a rebuild. Just do it already. Put me in a 2 year coma.

I am so pissed. Just can't take it. Maybe when I am finally over my anger I will think better...but until then....ASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS.

Just an observation from a skins fan

The Eagles offense is very predictable, they have run the same thing every year since McNabb has been there, if teams stop the Westbrook screen pass or Westbrook swing pass the Eagles are in trouble

Bossanova
10-06-2008, 06:50 AM
And every Eagle fan knows that. We can all call the first 15 plays. We all know when the screen is coming. We all know when four straight runs are coming. We all know that only the one reliable receiver is getting the 15 yard route. I havent been a fan of Reid since his first quarter offense in the last two minutes of the Super Bowl. He can't call a game. Either get a new offensive mind to call plays or get rid of him

Word. Been saying it also. His offense has not changed at all, he isn't good at play calling anymore, and everyone knows this offense. Blatant example of this is from the Bears game. They ran the same run play three of four times inthe last 4 minutes of possession. I don't think it is McNabb's fault.

I was at this abortion of a game yesterday. Outside of chatting with some of the Delilah's girls, it was uneventful.

The play calling absolutely blows.

Andy did nothing to even ATTEMPT to stretch the field after the first drive, and don't get me started on that goal line sequence. That was almost as bad as last week.

This team is teetering.

Congrats to the Skins, though...Jason Campbell looked sharp, and the Eagles couldn't get anywhere near Cooley all day.

I can't explain how much I hate Andy Reid.

Buckhalter's averaged between 4-7 yards per carry this entire game.

27 - passes
11 - rushes

It's absolutely atrocious play calling. They've got one WR that's adequate, and they haven't used him to stretch the field in two weeks .

Buckhalter's been picking up nice chunks of yardage...LET HIM RUN!!!!

Plus it takes huge pressure off the defense, who's just been getting pounded by Frank Gore. Time of possession in the 2nd Half so far is a disgrace.

A win is a win. Beginning of the Seattle game with that 90 yard touchdown..I was going to wreck the bar. Then the three 3 and outs. Then they woke up and actually did something. Again it's against the hawks so not going to go too crazy. Just liked that McNabb had a 7 for 7 drive and a 6 for 6 drive, both times they scored.

Next week is a big week. I say split between Celek and LJ. See who does better. Or try a two TE set, maybe that will work.

Get the ball to Jackson more and make that damn O line open some holes and give Westbrook the room to move.

Going to be a great game and I hope it ends in our favor.

Well after listening to the Donovan McNabb press conference in which he revealed:
-He's not bothered by losing or not playing well
-He wasn't aware that the NFL had ties
-He sees no problem with anything

and the Andy Reid press conference where he revealed
-He's going to keep 'plugging away' and doing the same thing.

I'm not sure I can convey a coherent opinion through the expletive laden sentences I now use to describe this team.

Reid's the problem. His offense sucks, and his personnel moves have been atrocious.

McNabb's issue is more that he's always had a chip on his shoulder because he feels the fans unfairly resented him from the moment he set foot in Philadelphia.

There's a degree of validity to that, but in recent years, he's become more and more combative with the media any criticism the floats his way, that I'm starting to wonder if it's setting the wrong tone for this team. But he's still a good QB.

Ultimately, they probably both should go. Reid should be fired after the season, or once they're officially eliminated from the playoffs.

I'd like to keep McNabb, but if you fire Reid, you're conceding that the team is rebuilding, and McNabb's too old now to hold through a rebuilding period. They would need to start looking at developing Kevin Kolb.

So I would trade him.

I'd like to keep McNabb, but if you fire Reid, you're conceding that the team is rebuilding, and McNabb's too old now to hold through a rebuilding period. They would need to start looking at developing Kevin Kolb.

So I would trade him.

Reid's the problem. His offense sucks, and his personnel moves have been atrocious.

McNabb's issue is more that he's always had a chip on his shoulder because he feels the fans unfairly resented him from the moment he set foot in Philadelphia.

That being said, their regime has gotten stale. No matter how good you are eventually you have to make a change in order to progress. Its time to say goodbye to both of them.

Even with the WR they still need a Jacobs type back. Westbrook is great, but they can't close out games. McNabb isnt the problem. He has no help and the play calling is awful. McNabb has talent, he has just never had enough weapons. He has been begging for them for years, thus he sounds like a baby. But its the truth, he carried them to three straight NFC title games along with the D. Go out and trade for fucking Boldin and make him happy.

I dont think the RB's are a problem. We have 2 above avaerage backs. Its how Andy Reid uses them.

The problem, and its always been the biggest problem, is that neither Andy Reid or Donovan McNabb can run a 2 minute offense. I dont care what anyone says that is the difference between a good QB and a great one.

I dont know if its the pressure or just the lack of a gameplan but McNabb sucks when hes behind with 2 minutes left and has to drive the field.

Andy Reid is even worse. I cant remember one 2 minute drill in his entire career in which the fucking guy had McNabb call 2 plays in the huddle at once to save time. They dont even rush to the fucking line of scrimmage!

Choking when the games on the line is a cardinal sin in this city.

If forced between the two, you had to keep one and dump the other, would you drop Donovan or Reid?

And bonus question:
Since we all seem to want them both gone at the end of the season, who gets picked up first, Reid or McNabb?

And extra credit:
Who will take over for the Eagles as local Chunky Soup spokesperson?

Easy. Reid.

I don't want Donovan gone, and he would get picked up almost immediately. Reid would not get another head coaching job right away.

Well, Dawkins and Runyan could be on the way out, too. So maybe DeSean.

I don't want Donvan gone. Andy Reid needs to resign as head coach. Our offense needs a complete revamp. It has been stale since we were in the Super Bowl. We need a change of command, and to give Donovan a chance at a different offense.

If the Iggles fulfill this offseason wishlist:
-Fire Reid or hire a new offensive coordinator to run the offense.
-Retain McNabb
-Draft a big running back (they'll have a high 1st rounder this season, and a mid 1st rounder from Carolina)
-Draft/Sign a TE
-Add OL depth
-Replace Dawkins

They'll be one of the best teams in the NFC next season.

For as bad as they look, it's not like there isn't talent there. They just need some important
pieces.

boobieman
11-26-2008, 02:55 AM
They need to build the O-line....they have 2 decent backs that can run the ball. They just don't have the line to open the holes for them to run.
They need a #1 WR. Jackson is going to be good. Reggie Brown, Avast are ok but not a #1. Just use the first round picks and either draft 2 linemen or trade for a great linemen.
McNabb is old and yes his time might be up. But I think if the O-line was stronger and give him time to throw and not dump the entire offense on his shoulder and the passing game they could be a great team.

One thing is for sure..either Reid goes or get a offensive Co and have him run the plays. get the play calling out of Reid's hands.

Just have to wait and see. Now I have to figuer out how to watch the game on thursday night because I don't have the NFL Network...Thanks Cablevision.

All in all, the Eagles need the following to happen today:

-Giants beat Redskins
-Chargers beat Falcons
-Bucs beat Saints
-Bears beat Vikings
-Packers beat Panthers.

If all that happens, they jump New Orleans and Minnesota, and pull even with Washington and Atlanta in the loss column.

A Panthers loss ties Carolina with the Cowboys for the #5 and #6 seeds.

That's where the tie would hurt, because conceivably, all the Eagles would need to do to get in is beat the Cowboys in their head to head game, and win their remaining games to get in.

But with the tie, they essentially need two Cowboys loss (including the head-to-head) or two Panthers loss, over the next four after today (and if the Panthers were to win, that'd put them at 9-3 and all but out of reach).

The easiest road goes through Dallas, but they need help.

Dallas does have four tough games, for their part...@Pittsburgh, Giants, Steelers, @Philadelphia.

So it's not out of the question that the Eagles are still in it. But none of this matters if they don't beat the Giants next week.

Saints beating the Falcons is huge.

The Eagles are now one Falcons and one Cowboys loss away from controlling their destiny for the playoffs.

K.C.
12-07-2008, 12:17 PM
So this would be ideal for the rest of this week.

-Steelers defeat Cowboys
-Ravens defeat Redskins
-Bucs defeat Panthers.

In that scenario, you control your own destiny with Washington and Dallas...you win the two head to head games, you don't have to worry about those teams.

I'd rather the Bucs win the South, because the Panthers have a harder schedule down the stretch (Den, @NYG, @NO), which are all loseable games for the Panthers, so it keeps alive the slim hope of the #5 seed being in play.

But basically, if the above happens, like I stated before, if they win out, they only need one Falcons loss (TB, @Minnesota, StL) and they're in.

As unbelievable as it seems, this team actually has a shot to make the playoffs. And they're playing their best ball now.

Yes, because Eagles fans never say "Get rid of McNabb" or "Get rid of Reid". Only thing you're missing is your team never turned it around to win the SB.

The first statement is a half truth.

There's different segment of fans in Philadelphia fandom.

The segment that most people are familiar with is the WIP (Sports Radio) type of fans because they're the most reactive and vocal.

And that's where most of your get rid of McNabb and Reid comes from.

So saying that's representative of Eagles fans is like saying people who call WFAN (and there's some huge mongoloids that do), are representative of New York fans.

It's not quite the full picture.

Yeah, six runs, and 15 total plays in the first half. The Redskins had like 32.

And now the defense is getting blown up because they've been on the field like 70% of the game.

You just have to control the clock to win these types of games, and their game-plan has been dreadful.

They need a nice long TD drive here , or they're in trouble.
