NYC Resistor Speed Soldering Championships! (http://www.nycresistor.com/2008/07/28/nyc-soldering-championship-rules/)
My friend from work has entered himself into the competition and I'm going to tag along just because I think it will be such a surreal evening.
Who else is comin'?!

I took a circuits class once in school and the only fun part was getting to solder stuff together. It was great. Some of the kids chewed their fingernails after soldering and the teacher got pissed and told them they deserved lead poisoning since they had been warned.

I think I might actually be pretty good at that. I imagine, however, it would be skull-numbingly boring for anyone not participating.

Will there be beer?
yes.
I was thinking of going to Ignite NYC tonight, since I work several blocks from it, but I dunno if I'll make it because I have too much going on with work.
Is there an Xtreme Soldering portion of the contest?

People stand around and watch live golf.
At least at this thing, there could be some minor injuries or somethin.

Something came up and I can't go.
I know you're thinking "What could possibly be more important than the Speed Soldering Championship?!"
But I am lending him my Weller Iron...so if he wins, I'll still feel a part of it.

There is other things going on there, like some speakers I want to hear talk. Some DIY/modders there and stuff.

Do you have to be a ranger?
Yes ... in order to compete. Military Channel will most likely run a mini-series on the event.

Dude, these are awsome(for the technical people). Some of these guys solder like machines, no joke, really fun to see. But then again, you can only watch so much. Luckly there are other perks like talking/getting tips on board bending and shit like that.
