Ok, I have never been a fish person. I hate the taste. I can only eat Clams, Mussels and some times shrimp. I know people love Salmon but to me, and not to sound all DERRRR, it taste like fish. Whats a good starter fish to get into and good fish recipes. But cant go wrong with Steamed Clams and Mussels in some white wine, onions and garlic....MMMMMMM

Cod and Tilapia are pretty mild tasting.

Catfish all the way. Love the stuff.
And if you're looking to have the fried taste without all the oil, just spray a glass baking pan, dip the fish in egg, bread it with Italian bread crumbs, and bake it at 375 for about 20 minutes.

You've got to come down here and catch them and they are currently out of season, but the SNOOK is the best fish I've ever had. http://www.floridaadventuring.com/images/snorkeling-school-of-snook.jpg

If you don't like light fleshed fish, and you don't like Salmon, I feel like you need to try some tuna and if that doesn't fly you just aren't eating any fish.
You could just deep fry it and put stuff on it, then you're eating fish but the flavor is pretty well masked.

The wierd thing about most anti-fish people is that they will like a salmon or tuna, which are some of the stronger tasting fish. Generally, the more fat contained in the meat, the stronger the flavor, and the better the health benefit of fatty acids. But you don't like salmon, so at least you make sense. I would recommend the cod, the sea bass, as well as halibut, which some consider to be the mildest tasting marine fish. As far as tilapia, try it, but I can't stand any farmed fish at this point. They just taste like the dirty puddles that they are farmed in. Keep this in mind when buying farmed fish and shrimp from Indonesia: most fish farms will dig a hole in the dirt with a backhoe, fill it with salt water, then culture their stock in that dirt soup. Hmmm good.

Not to mention that the Tilapia's purpose is to clean the shit off of the bottom of the pond that the other "game fish" leave behind.

All I did was say to my wife, "That piece of halibut was good enough for Jehovah!"
"You're only making it worse for yourself!"
"Making it worse? How can it be worse? Jehovah! Jehovah! Jehovah!"
"I'm warning you! If you say "Jehovah" one more time (gets hit with rock) RIGHT! Who did that? Come on, who did it?"

Can you smell the fish counter before you place your order wherever you're getting your fish?
If you can, that could be a big part of your problem.
If the fresh fish smells like fish, you shouldn't buy it from that store. (Get frozen-at-sea cryopacks instead. They are sold at almost every grocery store and some Target & SuperTarget stores. I wouldn't doubt that Wal*Mart has them, but I hate Wal*Mart with a passion, so I won't shop there.)
If the fresh fish TASTES like fish, it's probably bad as well and you shouldn't buy it from that store.
I've always loved fish, even when I was a little kid.
Salmon, swordfish, shark ... all favorites. (I shouldn't have eaten the swordfish & shark, though, considering the fact that they're pretty polluted.)
Anyway, yellowfin tuna is probably a good bet for you if you can stand canned tuna (firm flesh/mild taste,) someone else mentioned halibut (also firm/mild; prepare it like you would chicken - grilled, baked, broiled, fried, glazed, whatever) ... you could also try mahi-mahi (best to get it frozen if you're on the East coast or in the Midwest) and flounder (which I don't like because it has no body) ...
Also try scallops, since you have no trouble with clams or mussels. They can be prepared in similar ways (your white wine & garlic idea would go well with scallops!!)

I have a friend(Irish, of course:smoke:) who can't stand fish, but he likes tilapia. I've never had it.
I would say you can't go wrong with a nice tuna steak.
Me, I'll take a nice piece of fish over a steak any day of the week.
